Best offer from a brand new user. I've got a fishy feeling. Potential scam?

I listed a jacket for ~$350 yesterday, and this evening got a best offer of $125. I’m not willing to take that little but am considering countering. I started looking into the user, and it just feels off to me.

User joined ebay Feb 9, 2017, and has 8 feedback (all positive, immediate payment, etc), all in the last week. All appear to be from clothing sellers with higher-end brands.

If there any potential scam that anyone is aware of where someone would buy a bunch of expensive stuff, pay, and receive the items, and then possibly open a paypal case or something to get their money back?

Just seems odd that a new user is spending $1,000’s on high end clothing so quickly.

Anyone know of any cause for concern? Planning to counter around $275-300 if at all.

With that little bit of history, I would feel a little nervous on such a high dollar item.. but then again, I have sold plenty of high dollar things to people with NO feedback and things have turned out just fine. Has he/she left any feedback yet for the 8 sales (check feedback left)? I like your idea of countering high… good luck!

You could always buy some of those tyvek bracelets that hook onto itself through a belt loop or someplace similar. Take a photo of it attached (the serial number), include the photo and the serial number in the listing, say it must not be removed if returned, and also say that you require seller purchased delivery confirmation signature, and the buyer must have an adult agent available to sign for it upon delivery.

As far as a new seller buying high end clothing-new job? came into some money? So many reasons! You could also check to see what kind of feedback if any she’s left for her sellers.

We welcome new buyers. I’m glad they keep coming to eBay.

If they opened a eBay/paypal case, they have to return the item to get their refund. And if it’s insured, then that covers any damage in transit.

I’d counter on the price, hopefully they buy, ship, and forget.
We’d rather sell sell sell and deal with the rare issue, than worry too much.

Yeah, I don’t very often worry about scammers, and have sold lots to brand new “0” buyers with no issue. This one just felt off for some reason.

I have had lots of 0 feedback best offers not pay. I’ve decided not to accept best offers from them. More than 0 is fine.

Well, I countered at $275. Buyer declined, so it’s a non-issue now. Felt pretty fishy though.
