Another tip is that there is no pickup for FedEx Home Delivery on Saturdays – I learned that the hard way. But the tracking does show that the item has been dropped off on Saturday.
Did you refund both item price and shipping?
Just curious about how others handle these types of situations
I’ve recently listed some older melamine items, and these heller cups have a completely different feel (i’ve encountered them as well) – I don’t think they are melamine.

I have no experience selling stuff like this, but what I would do first is see whether any of the receipts match any of the envelopes, and keep matching ones together in the same listing.
I don’t like having individual listings for less than $30 (even though it ends up that I do), so I would lot up enough together that I think would sell for at least $30.
So how many to lot together? I would start by estimating $5/item (as per solds) and then double it to see if it will seller for higher than the solds.
Or maybe I would just keep things super simple and leave everything in one lot and put a very high price on it maybe $300-$400 and see what happens.
Whatever you decide, I would definitely NOT contact the the customer to ask permission.
If you really think you should have sold it at auction, then go ahead and cancel the sale, telling the customer that you put “Buy it now” by mistake. Then put it up for auction and that same customer still has a chance to buy it.Yesterday I could have sworn that I edited several items to increase the prices but when I looked at them a few minutes later, the prices were still the previous prices. So I had to go in and edit them again. That was weird.
let us know if this False Defective return/dispute goes as smoothly as your recent FINAD!
Part of my (rural) town and neighboring towns have had no high speed internet other than satellite and are now getting fiber. It took years to get state funding to help with the infrastructure buildout, and I’m guessing that the reasoning is that since they’re building from scratch, might as well do fiber. I’m one of the lucky ones who has had cable internet, so I’m not getting fiber 🙁
Yup – I think of my library as my printing backup as well. Luckily have not had to to use it yet.
thanks for sharing, Mike. Good to know that the new system is working well for people. I hope it seems like it is worth the cost of enabling free returns.
OK, that’s make sense – thanks for clarifying, Ryanne. So it sounds like the promise of “if you offer free returns, the FINAD process will be much easier for sellers” has come true, which I find very exciting and a cause for celebration! Now that I’ve seen (heard) it in action, I’m getting closer to wanting to offer free returns myself. Very cool.
Did you also see options for reducing the refund amount if the item had come back to you not in its original condition? If anybody else offering free returns actually comes into a situation where they offer a non-full refund for item condition issues, please post and let us know how it went.
Jay and Ryanne,
I have a question about the return you talked about in the first half of the podcast (haven’t listened to the second half yet). The way I understood it was that the item was returned as INAD for color and since that’s not a valid reason for an INAD, you chose the option to not pay for return shipping this item. Did I understand that correctly? If so, I’m wondering why you would not pay for return shipping? I understand that it’s a FINAD situation, and so you want to avoid having an INAD on your record (especially since they will be penalizing high INAD rates at some point). So I totally understand why one would want to dispute the return reason and get that changed (although I’m doubtful that’s possible). But as for the $$ side of it, since you offer free returns, why withhold money? I mean, if the exact same return came in as “Didn’t like it”, would you have done the same thing?
Yeah, I switched to 3-day also about a year ago after RetroWV posted that he did it. I love it!
Started to work again now after I restarted my browser. Should have tried that before posting here, but I didn’t realize that the labels functionality was complex enough to cause a browser-side issue. Lesson learned!
Thanks to all!
