Thanks for the tip, Sharyn – I’ll have to check that out as well.

I use Prime Video all the time (it has the Handmaid’s Tale so I didn’t have to get Hulu), plus I get really good prime member discounts/sales at whole foods, and it also enabled me to get a prime credit card that gives me 5% cash back at whole foods. And I placed 39 Amazon orders in 2018. I didn’t know (but am not surprised) about prime audio books – will have to check that out.
I would tell the buyer to call ebay to get a refund.
Great sales, Sharyn. For future reference, the material of that sport coat is called seersucker – a good key word.

If you feel better afterwards, sounds like a good idea to go for it once in a while. 🙂
Hausfrau,
To find a stock photo, I do a google search on the item of clothing to see who is selling it (or was selling it recently). This is usually easy to do with the style number if there is one on the garment or shoe. Typically I end up on a web page that says “out of stock”, but still has the photos and official description. Then I download the photos from there. Or if the item is a bit older and I can’t find anyone selling it new, sometimes I “steal” stock photos from other listings on ebay or poshmark. I don’t consider this to be truly stealing from the other reseller b/c it’s not really their photo anyway – we’re both stealing it from the manufacturer. Here’s one I used recently
I like when I find it on the nordstrom rack site b/c their pages usually still show the original retail price, which I like to use in my listings as well.
Here’s a poshmark listing with a stock photo I may end up using.

Like I said before, technically this is illegal. I haven’t experienced any issues with it yet, however.
Good job, daisy! I, too, find it difficult to not engage with customers on pointless discussions/arguments, so whenever I stop myself, I consider it a great victory. So pat yourself on the back. 🙂
Yesterday I was going back and forth with offers on a high end tie with this guy, and he kept telling me to look at the solds to see that the average selling price range was lower than what I was asking. I never engaged. The hardest was the message with his last offer which complained that by paying a certain amount (still less than what I wanted), he would be the guy increasing the average sales price for this brand of tie. I SOOOOOO wanted to reply with something snarky like “and why should I see that as a problem?” but I was able to restrain myself and in the end just silently rejected his offer. 🙂
Thanks for the tips, daisy. I do try to use stock photos for relatively new clothing items when I can find them. And I agree that it’s a good idea to note in the listing which photos are the stock photos, even if it seems obvious to me. 🙂
Daisy – I like your photos for the pie plate. I’m wondering what you do for tricky items like black/navy clothes, or when the color doesn’t come out right. I end up taking the photo on different backgrounds (wood floor, grey sofa, dark brown wall, or multicolor braided rug) until I find one where the color comes out at least roughly correct. Sometimes that is a pain, but I don’t want to bother with getting any other equipment. Two years back, I purchased a camera with a white balance setting, but no matter what i did, I couldn’t get it to work right, so I went back to the much easier to use iphone camera.
I photograph in a room with a lot of natural light.
05/23/2019 at 12:14 am in reply to: Seeking advice on college admissions / application process #62330Not all private colleges are super expensive for the middle class. There is a small, but growing trend of colleges saying no to debt, and offering more and more (or even all) financial aid in the form of grants. Most of these that I know of are in the top 25, which you (ChristineR) say is not your son’s target, but maybe some research will help to identify others?
Schools With The Best Financial Aid Packages That Aren’t Stanford
I just found this on Swarthmore’s website (are they top 25?)
If you receive a financial aid award from Swarthmore, it will be made up of grants (which do not have to be repaid) and the money you earn working a campus job. Some families do choose to take out loans to pay their family contribution. The financial aid awards you receive from other colleges may include a loan component, meaning that part of your financial aid is money you will need to repay. Swarthmore’s financial aid awards do not include loans.
daisy,
I would definitely be interested in a youtube video that shows how an experienced photographer such as yourself takes no frills ebay photos with a smartphone.Just got rolled out to me as well.
What’s interesting is that for the small number of items I have with tons of watchers (from 12 to 23) that are also listed as “send an offer”-eligible, when I go to send an offer, it ends up not being able to send an offer to ANYONE. So I wonder who all these watchers are – can’t be that many sellers watching my Gap sweater or waverly curtains. Whatever – just another ebay black box mystery.
Oh I see. I hadn’t realized that there were different styles of bases. cool. I can see how the stacking ones wouldn’t be as desirable as other ones I see in the background of that tutorial.
“Honestly, nobody wants the stacking bases anyways.”
So what do they do with the shells that don’t have legs to stand on?
