I see the same issue that Sharyn does – a few listings with TONS of watchers, but can’t send them offers even though the listing is shown as offer-eligible. I actually ended (and relisted) some of these listings b/c of this – the watchers weren’t buying anyway.
It’s not new for me. I’ve been seeing those wrong dates for a number of months. I have a three day handling time, and the date that is shown usually seems about right for same-day handling time. Or same day handling + express like IndySales reports. I decided to ignore these dates, and so far that approach has been working for me. I haven’t gotten penalized in any way for not meeting those dates.
Instead, I work by the “Ship by” dates in the leftmost column of the Orders page.09/04/2019 at 11:17 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Iceland Air Card deck, Telephone Index, 8-Track Stereo, Keens, Advent tweeter #67408Another one of my favorite finds of all time: gorgeous hand printed mid century wallpaper in an art nouveau design. This was the first wallpaper I ever picked up – got the idea here on SL, of course! I think I paid $5 for the 3 rolls and they sold for $100. Took 9 months to sell.
Also got the idea to pick up ikea stuff on SL. I picked up this lot of fairly worn RUSTIK flatware for $2, and sold in just a few weeks for $30. At first I thought it very strange, b/c at the time ikea was still selling these flatware sets new, and not for very much. But I think the key was that I had the steak knives.
I took a chance on this excellent condition ugly-to-me mostly synthetic sweater and it worked out great. Paid $4 at a thrift store, sold in 8 months (once fall arrived) for $60! I did look up the brand before purchasing. Philip and Jane Gordon.
This last item is an example of one of my picking weaknesses that I’m working on – buying obscure super high end items that noone is really looking for on ebay. Or at least that’s my guess on why they don’t sell well. The brand here is Marc Le Bihan, and I paid a now embarassing $27 for it at an estate sale. At the time, when I looked up the brand online, I saw that new items sold for $500-4,000 or higher retail, so I should certainly be able to get at least $75-100 for it, right? Wrong. After a year and a half of no action, I felt lucky to get an offer of $50 – I took it.

another touch it and sell it sale today!
MyCottage – I think Elizabeth is differentiating between 2 scenarios that can happen without MP:
1) you have a paypal account and buy with paypal – the standard way
2) you don’t have a paypal account, and you can still purchase via paypal as a “guest” by entering your credit card number. So if you can purchase with a CC without a paypal account now (albeit VIA PayPal), what benefit is Managed Payment providing?
Elizabeth,
I think the answer is that the benefit is if you have an account set up with non-PayPal payment providers like Apple or Google, and your credit card info is stored with them, so you don’t want to have to enter it again, and you also don’t want to open a PayPal account.
Now, if you don’t want to have any account with any payment provider but you use ebay all the time, the benefit is that you can store your credit card in the ebay MP system (but you probably have the option of entering each time if you want to).THat’s how I understand it anyway.
09/01/2019 at 9:06 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 426: Our Financial Lives Are Tied To The Mysterious Whims Of A Website #67217I do my numbers monthly for my own purposes, so here I have calculated out an average August week for my ebay store:
Total Items in Store: 430
Items Sold: 13
Gross Sales: $519
Cost of Items Sold: $79
Gross Profit: $440 (85%)
Average Gross Profit: $34
Highest Price Sold: $140 (vintage eyeglasses/frames)
Lowest Price Sold: $6 (vintage pants)
Average Price Sold: $40
Returns: 3
Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $95 for 17 items
Number of items listed this week: 10Things seem to be picking up from the summer slowdown.
OK, CLTbay, I think you’re talking about something very different from the rest of the posters on this thread. We thought you couldn’t see the item in “Active Listings”, but it seems that you can. Sounds like you’re concerned with not seeing it in the “Manage Inventory” section, which I’ve never heard discussed on this forum before. I just clicked there for the first time ever and don’t have any items listed there, though I have over 400 active listings. So you should probably direct your question specifically to someone who uses or at least understands the Manage Inventory section/feature – I don’t even know what it is.
Is it just me, or do the thingies on the ends look much newer than the chain?

Cast iron painted gold. I first noticed it b/c of the mid-century starburst design, but the curlicues in the middle made it look much older to me, and sure enough, there was a patent date of 1912 on it. Purchased for $8, sold for $225 in 1 month.
I was thrilled to find this 90s jansport fanny pack in excellent condition. Paid $5 at a higher end thrift store. Sold for $35 in 6 months.
Found this New With Tags vintage BROWN ski pants at a rummage sale for a dollar or two. Wasn’t sure how well brown would sell these days for ski people, but they sold in just 1 month for $50. Success!
This other piece of vintage ski gear took much longer to sell. I purchased this Lahco jacket for $5 a couple of years ago, back when I still thought I could make big bucks from any vintage clothing that looked cool and was rare, so I had it priced very high for a long time. Finally sold for $36 after 18 months.
08/29/2019 at 11:43 pm in reply to: Am I the only one who still takes an enormous amount of time to edit photos? #67134That’s funny about the grey. My primary focus is to get the actual item looking good – the color of the background is secondary for now. If I took a photo in the bright sun on a white background, my clothing items end up very very dark – I guess my iphone camera sees all that bright white and goes “oh no, that’s way too much light! I’m not going to let that all in!”.

08/29/2019 at 9:46 pm in reply to: Ebay Sales Tax Collecting for New/Added States – UPDATE Aug 29, 2019 #67129Yes – it’s great. Luckily for me, ebay started collecting in my state at the exact same time I was planning on starting to do so, so now I won’t have to. Though I still have to file a $0 sales tax return.
08/29/2019 at 5:26 pm in reply to: Am I the only one who still takes an enormous amount of time to edit photos? #67116thanks, Mike! Felt sounds like a great idea – especially to avoid the wrinkles of sheets. I list in my living area, so velcro won’t work b/c I don’t want random strips of velcro on my walls :). But I usually take flat lay photos, so I can just lay it down on the floor and roll it up when I’m done. Yay – now I can’t wait to go buy some and try it out.

I actually do have a medium gray background that I use for smalls and shoes that works pretty well most of the time, but isn’t large enough for clothes. Maybe I should bite the bullet and just spend a few dollars on a grey sheet.
