Nice haul! I’d be interested in seeing the shirts you find! I have been toying with the idea of contacting the local United Way to see if I can buy the left over men’s shirts after an event they have called Trash to Treasure. They have said they sell the remaining items to Goodwill for $0.18/pound so I was thinking of offering $0.25/pound and seeing what they said.
My husband is starting to get used to my window “shopping” the local stores to look at what brands are commanding higher prices. I would classify my style as t-shirt and jeans and window shopping was never my thing until I started looking for profits.
load the photo to imgur.com then paste the direct link in the message.
I just assume that the commission rate they charge the seller covers their cost. I’ll have to ask my friend if I see him this weekend. The only time I get charged state sales tax is when the auction is held at the auctioneer’s place of business. If it is done at the home, no sales tax. That may be dependent on each state.
02/14/2017 at 6:34 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 297: Being Frugal vs Running A Business #12487I have about 5 items on auction right now and they are all round 2 on the auction. I had one item sell last round, but it ended up being a non-payer. Apparently, I can’t give this stuff away on eBay so if it is still around in the Spring, it will be going towards a tax deduction.
I’ve never like the “buyers premium” and it is sad when you get to a new auctioneer who didn’t disclose that on the announcement. The auctioneer I like has no premium, no tax, no phone bids, and no absentee bids. The online auction company I buy from often has a 10% premium and ships out so you are competing with a lot of others. They charge sales tax when the “auction” is out of one of their two buildings. The 10% is actually low for the auctioneering companies on proxibid.com.

Those are awesome bar stools!

Spent on new inventory: $46.00 (Thrift + 1-RA from Lowe’s)I’m happy with the sales this week compared to the new listings volume. I also got positive feedback on the watch so I’m happy to have that transaction complete and a happy customer. I have started running auctions on some of my lower value to keep the store active and as an attempt to move out some of those small items as I get ready to start listing higher dollar items in the next few weeks. Not much luck on the auctions, but my sales do seem to be more frequent and I’ve even had 2 already today (I am happy with 2 a week so 2 in one day is a nice treat). I’ll probably keep running them to make it look like I am consistently listing until we are done with the house which should be in the next month (I feel like I say that every month though).
We have a massive pile of scrap lumber in our yard right now….along with piles of extra lumber. I’m building my entire storage shelving out of the extra lumber, but my husband doesn’t want to use any of the scrap for the wood stove so we have been giving it away to those who are less picky than he is. We knocked down a good number of trees to build so we have a lot of firewood anyway.
Sewing on a button is a valuable skill to know. I recently picked up a vintage Woolrich jacket and realized a button was missing from one of the chest pockets. Thankfully, the previous owner had it stored in the pocket. I took the extra few minutes to get out the needle and thread and just put it back on. I put in my listing that the button had been repaired, but was the original matching button. Either way will work. I don’t think people will search on the term missing button, but many people would likely pay a few more dollars for something that didn’t need a repair or avoid items that required work even with a great price.
I heard the same BOLO on Wednesday or Thursday last week and checked one of mine, but nothing there.

Congrats! That is my next goal point. How long did it take you to build up to that level? It is great to see other part timers reaching that level on their own! Very motivating.
Thanks Habnab and Mike! Yes, I did try to search for the item without the Clemson part just to find out the type of jacket. Mike, that is either the same jacket or at least very close. Thanks for the link as it will help me figure out keywords for listing and an idea of price.
I found a pair like the other listing that sold on Etsy for $65. https://www.etsy.com/listing/72517849/art-deco-chase-copper-candlesticks
Chase seems to have been a company for those candlesticks so you may want to research some of that. You may want to look at how the candlestick holder is attached to the base. That may help determine quality.
