Good luck today! I hope you find some great deals! Always nice to get out and just have fun at an auction and put the rest of the world to the side for a bit.
Most auctions around here don’t take phone bids so that is cool that you can at least do that when you are interested in an item. I know I bid against a lot of other resellers, but I’ve run into more of the ones who run a physical store or antiques mall booth so I don’t try to see who might be listing online. I may have to do that with the watches this time though!
I have three online auctions ending this weekend and I’m getting nervous already about getting the lots I’m into. Some of the highlights are: Tub full of men’s boots – 6 pairs of boots (2 redwing made in USA, one Sorrel) a pair of Minitonaka slippers, and a pair of sandals; box of English brass rubbings from the 1960’s – I have no clue as to just how many are in there, but the pictures show rolls of them and one that is full size of the grave, probably 6″ long; an auction full of Invicta and other brand Men’s high end watches (250+ watches); a possible butterscotch amber necklace from the 1920’s; and last but in no way the least – a western style riding saddle.
Most of these items I have learned about through SL so if this works out like I hope, a big shout out to the SL community!

I’m a Mac fan also and have an older MacBook Pro, but just picked up a used iMac 27″ screen with 2TB of memory at the local university’s electronics auction and I prefer listing on that to my laptop. For one, just the screen size allows me to do multiple things like list and research an item without having to flip tabs or unstack panes. I can do most things side by side with room to spare. I also have enough memory to not worry about transferring my images over. I did have to reset the unknown password and update past 3 OS versions, but it works well for a quarter of the price of a new one. If you can find something used from a reputable place, you can save yourself some money.
Yeah, I think that beats my modeling shoes request. He (I assume he) did email back to ask if I could have someone else do it or just put my foot in part way. Not sure how that helps sell the shoe.
11/09/2016 at 1:55 pm in reply to: What is the best or weirdest thing you have found inside an item you sourced? #5383I found $20 in a wallet once, but it paid for my whole auction haul for that day!
Awesome sale!!!!
I lived near that area from 2000-2003 and would explain to people where I lived the same way….half way between Baltimore and DC!
Ugh, I have only started thinking about this, but I’m just now nearing in on 150 items sold and I have the auction sale slips for most of those items. It is my yard sale and thrift shop buys that will cause me a pause. I’m starting to use a spreadsheet to track my non-auction items. I try to process the items that day if they don’t have a uniform price or tags.
I have GoDaddy for the main accounting system, but I haven’t been good about keeping up with COGs and mileage.
I’m looking to refine my system in 2017 to keep accounting easier.
You could offer that, but I’m guessing most people would just be happy seeing the items go. One of the other things I’m looking into is working with cleaning crews that go into the vacated apartments at the end of the Spring semester. A person I know who does that as a side job says the students will leave tons of stuff. I don’t need the cleaning job, but if it means access to more stuff…..why not!
Reminds me of a bowling ally logo. They often use a crown style logo. But I couldn’t find it in a quick search so likely not.
I picked up a vintage hunting jacket on Saturday for $4. It is waterproof material with a soft fabric collar. Has a game pouch and loops for the hunting license holder. Even came with some stains that I assume are blood. I’ll be trying a little oxy-clean on a cloth to remove those, but I know I have a good item when my husband shows interest in it. Good thing it was a little too short on the sleeves for him or I wouldn’t be listing it. I still need to research the brand for pricing.
I also got a Vintage Colt 45 Beer Snapback hat for $1.50. We will see what that does. Have it listed for $35 since I didn’t find one like it listed.
If a new one sells for $200-300, I wonder what a used one could get. We have a salvage place about 45 min away and I know they carry a ton of urinals. I joked that I was going to put one in our bathroom and one in our son’s bathroom. The added plumbing costs got that plan vetoed!
I haven’t thought about that, but I have put a Facebook post to friends about taking in t-shirts and then making a donation on their behalf. I have some business cards coming to give to the employees who work for my typical auctioneers so they can give them to the property owners in an attempt to get clothing and shoes. The online auction company I frequent doesn’t often auction off shoes or clothing and when they do it is usually specialty items. But the Goodwill pick up idea is a good one!
I’ll be checking out the etsy thread. I have been throwing around the idea of making some vintage-y items and using the etsy space for selling. Thanks!
