we found several hundred dollars of Travelers cheques. BUT they were only signed once, and need to be signed twice to be used. luckily i sold them as props for almost as much as they were worth since they were vintage from the early 80s.

I found 3 1970s $20 Bank of America Travelers checks once. They were only signed once also, but when I took them to the bank, they had no problem cashing them for me. I do not know if it was because of their age or not. So if you do get older checks, try cashing them in – it may be worth it.

I found loose bullets in a box of video games once…not sure what that thought process was on that one. Other things include children’s play money in a VCR and a porno DVD in what was supposed to be a video game box.

I got one just now. My heart is pounding. I bought a baggalini brand purse at the goodwill outlet today. I was just going through the pockets, and found $189 cash inside!

I know the feeling! I found $100 bill inside a box of greeting cards

Before I heard of this blog, I threw away $3,000 in travelers checks that had been signed once. Found them in a storage unit. Never once thought about selling them as a vintage item.

I found $304 in a box of random cards. It was a box with boxes and packs of greeting cards and the $300 was in a box of Christmas cards. The $4 was in a box of party invitations.
I found 6 condoms in a vintage suitcase once. NEW in the package. I still didn’t want to touch them and I took them out to the garbage and dumped them.
I find a penny in lots of purses. I guess they kept a penny in their purse for luck and passed it on to me.
I’m still looking for that giant diamond ring in a pair of jeans. -

I found $20 in a wallet once, but it paid for my whole auction haul for that day!

In September, I bought several lots in an online auction/estate sale. I did find some change and a $2 bill, but what was interesting was information on the people who used to own the items.
I bought one lot that had wallets, and I found the money I mentioned, business cards for both the wife and the husband, a library card, and a photograph that I believe was the husband and wife in their earlier years, maybe 30’s. In a lot of decor, I found a more recent photo of her with a friend.
Through Google, I was basically able to find out some of her and her husband’s life history. She was a professor teaching English and public speaking at a community college who had passed away in July, and her husband was an engineer who passed away over 10 years ago.
I kind of felt like a stalker, but it does remind oneself how much information is available online. A good thing to do is to google your name (use quotes around your first and last name) to see what is out there. My name has a different spelling, so I’m able to find my information pretty easily.

I bought a scientology rain coat at the thrift store. When we got home Mark found a small flashlight in the pocket called Surefire. I thought it sold for $125 but Mark insists that it sold for over $200, I’ll take his word on it. He has better memory than me. Keep your eyes out for that brand!

I bought a bag at a yard sale and found a small bag of weed inside. I sold the bag and I think my teenage son took the weed for “research”.

I had forgotten about the weed I found in a raincoat probably 20 years ago. It was a lightweight Izod raincoat that has a hidden pocket along the bottom front pocket. I just sold the raincoat earlier this year.
I found $75 in a bundle of christmas/birthday cards. The card looked like someone was going to give it to someone for their birthday but then forgot.
This summer I found about $10 in loose change and bills in a purse at a Church sale. I was looking through the purses to see what the insides looked like when I found the money. I just gave the money to the Church since I was still at the sale when I found it.

I didn’t actually buy this, but when I was at an estate sale the other day, I saw a pair of old Nike golf shoes. A dead mouse was nestled and half-mummified inside the shoe towards the heel portion and in plain sight. Still, the estate sale company had the gall to leave the dead mouse in the shoe and mark the item $3.00. Disgusting.

I was at a church rummage sale and found a small older photo album with some pictures of a woman in her late 40’s to early 50’s. On the last page, the pictures were of her topless.
I picked it up and presented it to one of the men assisting with the sale, who was very grateful that I did.
Later that day I bought the Autobiography of Richard Nixon for $2. Inside I found something nice, his signature.
Maybe it was Karma.. or maybe I was just lucky that day.

In a Fossil bag I bought at a Goodwill I found a single Mikimoto pearl stud earring on a 14k gold post. Still haven’t listed either…

The best thing I found was $70 and a gold ring in a backpack. But I was recently photographing a vintage Scripto lighter and pen set and when I removed the carboard tray from the box I found a stack of old foreign bills. I doubt they’re worth anything, but my heart skipped a beat at the sight.
(I tried several times to link to photos of the reveal on imgur, but no dice…) -

OK I was making the image posting process needlessly complex.

Inside a vintage coat, I found an old-lady raincap and a doggy milk-bone (which was also vintage). Eww.

I find small bill cash once in a while. One time when I was dumpster diving I found 4 or 5 big black bags full of some really cool computer / tech stuff. The guy was an airline pilot who had been relocated and left all kind of trinkets (including his air force id) in a bed bath and beyond dumpster. There was lots of old software games, a key chain collection, video games, older recording and video equipment, and more.

Weirdest thing: While going through some boxed up books donated to a charity I found an urn of ashes. Charity could not find out who donated it in order to give it back. Gave the urn to a preacher that worked for the charity so they could say a blessing over it. Not sure what they did with it after that.
Hidden treasure: Gold coin in one of those fake books you hide in a bookshelf. It was in a collection of over 100 books, guessing the father died and kids tossed all of the books. Gave it to the charity and they and they ebayed it for 1.2k.
