We’re going to an auction this Saturday evening. We really don;t need more inventory, but it’s always a fun time to go out and be among people.

*hand up*
My wife and I are heading to an antique auction tomorrow afternoon. In addition to ebay, we also sell at antique shows from time-to-time, so we get to antique auctions at least two or three times a month.
Looks like there are some decent odds and ends at tomorrow’s sale, and we usually do relatively with this auctioneer. I know we’ll come home with a full load, of what, just depends on who else is there and what they’re bidding on. Could end up with furniture, or a bunch of box lots of small stuff. Where we end up selling stuff just depends on where the best market is, and how big the item is.
We’re travelling next weekend, and I’m going to get to an antique auction on the other side of the country, so I’m pretty interested to see how pricing is there.
Best of luck at yours, Jay & Ryanne!! Hope you’re planning to enjoy an auction hotdog as much as I am!

Our auction was a bust. Just a bunch of junky antique stuff that was overpriced. I’ll take a house clean out any day. But we know we have to go to ten auctions so we can find the one awesome one.
Hope you had better luck.

Ours was just OK. Picked up a few odds-and-ends antiques that will mostly get sold at the antique shows. Most of the stuff I was really interested in went higher than I was willing to pay.
Picked up a few old yearbooks from the 1950’s that I’ll list on ebay, but not much else that’ll be headed online.
Looking forward to next weekend’s auction on the East coast though!

I have three online auctions ending this weekend and I’m getting nervous already about getting the lots I’m into. Some of the highlights are: Tub full of men’s boots – 6 pairs of boots (2 redwing made in USA, one Sorrel) a pair of Minitonaka slippers, and a pair of sandals; box of English brass rubbings from the 1960’s – I have no clue as to just how many are in there, but the pictures show rolls of them and one that is full size of the grave, probably 6″ long; an auction full of Invicta and other brand Men’s high end watches (250+ watches); a possible butterscotch amber necklace from the 1920’s; and last but in no way the least – a western style riding saddle.
Most of these items I have learned about through SL so if this works out like I hope, a big shout out to the SL community!

I called in and left a bid on a painting at a local auction Thursday, but I was outbid by $30. That’s okay; the bid I left was more than I wanted to pay. Now to watch and see if the painting goes up on eBay. 🙂

Most auctions around here don’t take phone bids so that is cool that you can at least do that when you are interested in an item. I know I bid against a lot of other resellers, but I’ve run into more of the ones who run a physical store or antiques mall booth so I don’t try to see who might be listing online. I may have to do that with the watches this time though!

I’ll be heading to one tomorrow. Fingers crossed it’s a good one, because I’m starting to make progress with my death piles. I’d like to get out for awhile, too. This election cycle has really left me feeling drained, (and that’s all that needs to be said about that).

Good luck today! I hope you find some great deals! Always nice to get out and just have fun at an auction and put the rest of the world to the side for a bit.

Hit an antique auction yesterday. Picked up some great stuff, but most of it will likely get sold at antique shows that we do. A few items may make their way onto eBay eventually if they don’t move locally.
Hope everyone else has been having success!

What kind of items do you sell specifically at antique shows instead of eBay? Do you make more money? or is it things like furniture that is difficult to ship?

Furniture, and items that I know will sell quickly and relatively high (old porcelain signs, some glass/China items, oil/gas/mancave stuff) primarily.
Stuff that will sell quickly and high, and/or is a pain to ship. We enjoy doing the shows, so we don’t mind getting a little less in some instances to avoid shipping and eBay/PayPal fees. It’s nice to have multiple avenues to move things (eBay, Amazon, shows). Really lets me looks for just about anything if the price is right.
Plus, the antique shows are often a great place to pick up inventory that people haven’t fully researched properly.

Last one of my online auctions for the “weekend” was last night….that one was a bust just for the fact that I had other things going on and didn’t get the notification that I was outbid on items until too late. I let all my lots go to save myself from an hour drive to pick up a $1 lot.
The other two did go well. I paid higher prices than I have been since I know there are high returns for some of the items and I am trying to focus on paying a bit more to get more $100+ listings. Some of my highlights are 2 Invicta Men’s watches, 1 Renato Men’s watch, a rubbermaid tub with 6 pairs of boots (two USA made Redwing, and a Sorrel) and two pairs of shoes, big box of English brass rubbings made in the 1960’s before the churches stopped allowing it to be done, some photo processing equipment, and some metal painted roosters that will be a Christmas present for my mom.
Next auction is a live auction on Sunday.
