I’m thinking I’m nearing due for a hardware upgrade, and am wondering what everyone else is using for listing/selling on Ebay, and the pros/cons of each.
I’m currently using a windows based laptop that is approximately six years old. It works, but is starting to feel a bit slow, and I fear that one of these mornings it’s not going to fire up, forcing me to buy in a haste.
As much as I hate to buy something new and spend the money, I’m thinking of grabbing something during the upcoming holiday sales.
My question is; What is everyone else using for listing, and what do you recommend?
For what it’s worth, I have VERY limited exposure to Apple computers, but have used their other products (iphone, ipad, apple tv) for years with great success. Just a bit nervous to leave a PC and move to Mac for listing.
Thoughts?

I think a new PC and a new mac will both do well for you.
It all depends on what you like working with.Ryanne and I are mac people. We like how they operate (plus they’re necessary for our video work). We list on eBay with great success on macs.
But macs are super expensive compared to a new PC.
You could probably get a great new PC that will do everything you ned on eBay for $500. -

I would suggest taking your old computer and installing a solid state drive. You’ll be shocked at the performance improvement an SSD will give you versus an old mechanical hard drive, even for a six year old machine. The price on SSDs has also come down tremendously.
If you are itching for a new computer: get a PC, unless you really love Mac OS or need a program not available on Windows. Either system will do fine for eBay listing, but Windows machines cost way less for equal or usually superior hardware.
Depending on your needs, if you are only doing eBay listing, you could just buy a Chromebook and save even more money.

An iphone 7. You can photograph, edit photos and list using siri. It takes less than 5 minutes to list an item this way.

I’m a Mac fan also and have an older MacBook Pro, but just picked up a used iMac 27″ screen with 2TB of memory at the local university’s electronics auction and I prefer listing on that to my laptop. For one, just the screen size allows me to do multiple things like list and research an item without having to flip tabs or unstack panes. I can do most things side by side with room to spare. I also have enough memory to not worry about transferring my images over. I did have to reset the unknown password and update past 3 OS versions, but it works well for a quarter of the price of a new one. If you can find something used from a reputable place, you can save yourself some money.

I love Apple products and do all of my listings & photos on an iPad Air. In my professional life, everything is Windows based, so when I decided not to return to the corporate world, I researched Windows laptops. Ended up with the new Dell XPS 13. It’s very slim, lightweight and has all the bells and whistles for about $800. Still do everything eBay on the iPad, though.

I think Jay and a few others on here hit the nail on the head when they pointed out the price difference. Macs are quite expensive and while I like my MacBook Pro there is nothing about my Mac that makes it “better” for eBay. In fact, I do most of my listing on my 6+ year old Windows 7 PC even though I have a much newer Mac laptop. Bottom line…if you were already wanting a Mac for other reasons then it’ll work just fine but I wouldn’t recommend using eBay as justification to spend that much more money on one.

as jay mentioned, we are mac people. my first was an apple IIe in elementary school, never looked back. i use a 2011 dual-core i7 27″ imac and a 2011 core i7 macbook pro. both still work great for us. i never want to let my imac go! the thing is fast. so if you want to move to a mac, you can get the older models, that still have a lot of power to them (mine are 5 years old, i can’t believe it) for cheaper on ebay.

Hello everyone. Need some advice, my 3 older windows computers are becoming more and more troublesome, updates not downloading correctly, running slow etc etc. Thinking about getting a Mac either a desktop or laptop, question, does anyone here have a recommended eBay seller for used or refurbished Apple desktops or laptops ? Cheers!

Thanks Ryanne, Was hoping that you would comment as I remember reading recently that you guys upgraded your Macs. Looks like a good seller that $2000 machine he has looks nice. Will pay up for something nice although not sure that I want to pay more than $1200 Cheers!

Similar question…my laptop is 6+, so far I’ve replaced the keyboard, the hard drive, and the fan…and it’s going to need another keyboard soon. I have a couple of desktops laying around and a nice big lcd monitor…the specs are good, but none are running updated operating systems.
Anyone use solely Linux for listing/selling? I’ve ran it before, just never used it on the computer I used for listing. Wondering if anyone encountered any drawbacks?
