@JulieB – I saw those new 4x4x4 boxes and just passed. The 6x4x4 boxes are small enough. I did buy the new 12.5×12.5 box with an adjustable depth. They are great for books! Some mentioned using them for vinyl records. The only thing I’d be concerned about is the strength of the adjustable sides. I think they need extra support or else the record might be crushed easily.
I didn’t sell anything all that interesting last week. Here are two higher sales:
I purchased a set of Gorham crystal water glasses in an online auction last year and have been selling three at a time for $42. Each set of three cost me $2.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183628216513This signed copy of Debt of Honor by Tom Clancy was given to me by a friend of my parents. He “knew someone” who “knew someone” who lived near Tom Clancy and had this signed for him years ago. Sold for $43.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183905493169I’m pretty sure I’ve seen that before, but I don’t know if it changes based on the offer.
I don’t think that is raw denim. Raw denim has to do with the manufacturing process, not whether the purchaser ever washed the denim.
What does Raw Denim mean?
Raw denim, also known as dry or unwashed denim, is denim that has not undergone any of the usual washing and distressing processes. It comes straight off the loom and is cut and sewn into jeans and then sold to you. It is stiff with a deep blue color and has a distinctive sheen. Raw denim allows the wearer to personalize the pants for his/her unique shape, with creases and fade marks forming to his/her body type.I do agree with the key words “chore coat”. That I learned from Steve himself!!!
I tried Pirate Ship for the first time yesterday. I did very well with a pair of jeans in a polymailer going across country because of cubic shipping. Everything else was pretty much the same as eBay, except that I didn’t get my top rated seller discount for the items sent Priority mail. Overall, though, the one cubic ship discount was much better than the top rated seller discount.
My thought is to get to know better what items will benefit from their cubic shipping and only use Pirate Ship for that.
My question is the scan sheet. Can I print out a scan sheet on Pirate Ship that would include the items for that day on eBay? Conversely, can I print out a scan sheet on eBay that would incorporate the shipping purchased through Pirate Ship?

I hear you.
Often bidders will give a half price offer. You can start negotiating if that is too low, but some buyers give one offer and that’s it. So, should I set my BIN as twice the amount I want?
I have something set at $699 because I want at least $350 for it. I’ve had two low ball offers, so I know it is at least desirable. I think I’m scaring away potential buyers, but I haven’t decided what to do.
I agree that not everyone likes to haggle and other people don’t like the waiting after an offer is made. I’be been using best offer when I’m not sure of market value or I see variation in the selling price.
Making offers to watchers is the new way to offer a lower price. The weird thing is when when I can make an offer on something with best offer available. If I lower the price too far, then the potential buyer might think I’m willing to go even lower. I’ve been careful on those, only offering maybe 10% off.
Did you print out a label in eBay? When a label goes unused in eBay for about one month, it gets refunded to you.
Yes, if the post office never scanned the package, then you have to give a refund. This is one of the reasons to wait in line at the post office and have them scan each package.
Make sure to double-check your trunk as well. I forgot about packages in there once before, but noticed them two days later.
@Amatino – Yes, in fact, I had to do that this week as I had two items sell right away.
I actually meant to make that comment to ChaoticGood in case it helped to break out the month worth of listing. I should have labeled that better.
10/28/2019 at 11:02 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 434: Do You Have A Business Destiny? #69663This week started off where I found about 100 of my items were suddenly marked as 16 or more months old. I usually look at my oldest items every week, so I was surprised. I’m guessing that they fixed something in the software that caused this to happen. Did something similar happen to anyone else?
Week of Oct 20 – 26
* Total Items in Store: 1507 eBay, 36 Etsy
* Items Sold: 12 eBay + 1 Etsy
* Cost of Items Sold: $17 + $0 Commission
* Total Sales: $217.57 eBay + $30.95 Etsy
* Highest Price Sold: $43 Signed Tom Clancy book Debt of Honor
* Average Price Sold: $18.13 (eBay only)
* Returns: 0
* Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $7.30
* Number of items listed this week: 37I was surprised to see how slow this week was for me, but I did have my first sale on Etsy. Since I only have a few items listed there, I chose to include shipping in my prices. This makes it difficult to calculate my average over both stores, so I only reported my average for eBay. I haven’t actually shipped my Etsy item yet, but it will probably be about $10.
I keep adding to my pile of stuff I want to donate, but it hasn’t actually left my house yet. I’ve got to do that before the end of the month; otherwise, it just isn’t going to count. I think that I will at least get to the challenge of one item per day.
Amatino – Knowing what you’ve said about yourself in the past, I think that this challenge was particularly helpful for you, and I don’t think you realized how much when you proposed it. You are getting rid of mindblowingly boring, cheap stuff and freeing yourself to move on. I predict that you will start listing like crazy in a week or two and completely blow us away!
For eBay, I find out how many items I’ve listed for the week by sorting on “Start Date” in Seller Hub. I click at the top of the column once to get from oldest to newest and then click again to get the newest to oldest. I then count out how many items I’ve listed new since the last reporting date.
For this week, I listed 37 items.
10/27/2019 at 9:03 am in reply to: How do you reply to customer inquiries on items shipped and not received yet? #69606Professionalism is key plus there is no good reason to think too much about it. I look up the tracking and just state “I shipped it on xx and tracking says it will arrive by yy”. Done.
Seems like this type of story comes around each year this time. You don’t have to even say an item is haunted to sell it quicker. List a vintage doll or whatever as “creepy” or “scary”, and, assuming it is, it will sell much faster and at a better price.
For general items, I just list an item giving its attributes, function, manufacturer, etc. Sometimes, if I know the background, I will explain where it came from and why it is no longer needed. I wonder if the “story” of the item can help sell it. Perhaps this is why many sellers will say that an item came from an estate. It’s part of the story. Someone bought this new, they owned it for years, they passed away, and now you can own it.
10/25/2019 at 9:21 am in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Panasonic Flip clock radio, Soft gun case, Models, Clairinet #69561Steve – I’ve mentioned before that I follow your sales on eBay. I noticed that you sold a designer chair for a very high price, but you didn’t mention it in your video. Did that not go through in the end?
I was surprised that I had listed this little recipe booklet for $7 plus normal first class shipping with tracking. It seems excessively high for what it is even if it is from the 1920’s. I couldn’t find what I paid in my Excel spreadsheet. I believe it was part of a lot in 2016 that I didn’t break down. Buyer left positive feedback.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183818517452This toaster oven was purchased by one of my parents’ friends in the 1980s. It was never used and just moved with him from place to place. It came with a nice cover as well. Sold in five days for $60. It was free to me.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183991805583This is the last of the three leather clad atlases I purchased in an auction lot for less than $1. This one was from 1951 and sold for $33.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183554334435This WiFi radio is one of those gadgets that you hook up to your stereo system and steam internet-based stations. A friend from work got this as a gift or prize from our company (where neither of us work anymore) several years ago. He gave it to me, and I never hooked it up. My husband and I recently cleaned up our office, and I decided to put it up for sale. Sold in one day for $30.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183997538446My daughter started college this year and needed a microwave. I found a small one for $10 on Craigslist. Then, my daughter noticed that there was a limit of 0.9 cu ft, and this one was 1.1. I suppose the microwave police would never have found the transgression, but we went and bought a new one (cheap), and I put this one up for sale. It sold for $20 plus $39 to ship to South Dakota. Steve, is there a shortage of microwaves where you live? I think he could have paid less for a new one :).
