I did the FAFSA for the first time last year. I first started with filling it out line by line. I got confused, so I went back to the beginning and did the automatic upload of my tax information. That made it much easier. I can’t remember how involved the other questions were, but I don’t think it was a big deal.
The problem last year was that my daughter applied to some colleges that required the CSS profile. That form required all sorts of annoying calculations. She is looking to transfer, but the colleges she is considering either don’t require it or won’t give us any money anyway. So, I’m only filling out the FAFSA.
11/04/2019 at 6:05 pm in reply to: Question for international shipments GSP AND 1st class intl #70043Can you do that? Yes and no.
You select the GSP, and then click on “Alternative international shipping options” – then select calculated, then first class international shipping. There’s a menu on the left that defaults to worldwide. You can pick “chose custom locations”. Here are the selections:
N. and S. America Europe Asia
Canada United Kingdom China
Mexico Germany Japan
Brazil France Australia
Russian FederationObviously, you deselect Asia, China, and N. and S. America. The question for me would be what about Europe? For instance, there seems to be no way to pick Belgium, but not Poland. Or, pick Israel but not Saudi Arabia.
The thing is, I set this up within the past year, and the selection of countries was much more extensive. I found out about the change this weekend because someone from Great Britain asked about better shipping. I went to change the business policy and found that eBay changed my default back to “Worldwide”, which was not good.
Anyway, I believe a person in a country you select will be able to chose between GSP or direct first class.
11/04/2019 at 5:36 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 435: List and Forget, Still Works For Us #70042These are basically my questions as well. I would expect that this would be covered as part of the agenda. I’ll report on it if I find something new or specific.
I’d also like to know whether they would consider a company policy of not making any software changes in the forth quarter. As far as I know, I wasn’t affected by this latest fiasco, but I don’t like the idea that it happened this time of year.
11/04/2019 at 1:28 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 435: List and Forget, Still Works For Us #70031Also wanted to mention that I am going to an eBay event in Brooklyn Wednesday evening. I imagine it is a sort of mini eBay Open. It will be about 3 hours, and I did not have to pay for it (although I will have over an hour driving and some bridge tolls). I’m not sure whether I have many questions for them, but I hope to soak up information.

9:00-9:30pm | Desserts and Other Sweet Things11/04/2019 at 1:17 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 435: List and Forget, Still Works For Us #70028Jay – My mom has totally collected hotel soaps over the years. I once bought her a package of hotel soap, like what you once found at a thrift store, as a funny gift. My family and I, though, don’t travel enough to not have to buy soap. However, my husband works for a cosmetic company, and they have a few soaps we get for free from his company store (along with hair & skin products).
Anyway:
Week of Oct 27 – Nov 2
* Total Items in Store: 1542 eBay, 37 Etsy
* Items Sold: 20
* Cost of Items Sold: $24.75 + $0 Commission
* Total Sales: $384.72
* Highest Price Sold: $40 Vintage Springbank Scotch Whiskey pitcher
* Average Price Sold: $19.23
* Returns: 0
* Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $0
* Number of items listed this week: 52Decent enough week, but today I received notice of two returns worth about $62. Bummer.
This past week, I finally pulled out a few bins of stuff on consignment for a family friend. I gathered up all the glass items (mostly cobalt blue vintage stuff), and started cranking them out. Combined with some of my things, I ended up with 52 listed this week! Definitely one of my bigger weeks; I think I’ve listed over 50 in a week before, but I don’t really remember.
This week, though, will be much different. Many non-eBay distractions including my son is off school the whole week and some paperwork stuff (FAFSA!) that I need to get done.
11/03/2019 at 8:20 am in reply to: USPS Doing a Study on the Cost Effectiveness of Continuing to Provide Free Boxes #69960If you go to the USPS website, and click on shipping supplies, free shipping supplies, and then boxes, you will find numerous boxes that are not flat rate. For example, if I get one of their 12x12x8 boxes, I can ship whatever in it and pay the normal priority rate; it does not have a flat rate price.
Take a look because you are missing out! Plus, it looks like they might not be around much longer.
That sounds like a great business model! You ought to also look at Etsy because their site originally started as a place to sell handmade arts & crafts, and vintage items were added later.
I happen to have two wall mount push button phones that I haven’t listed yet. I haven’t tested them either, but that wouldn’t take long. I’m not exactly sure what you mean by “1097”, so I’m posting the photos below. I took photos of the back in case that helps. The darker one on the left has a longer cord than the other.
Well, this is both good and bad news for me. The good news is that I have some coats and other cold weather clothing that I have’t listed because I need to try to remove some stains. I have at least one other winter item that needs some attention before I can list.
After maybe five things or so, that is it. I’ve got no other Fall/Winter/Holiday stuff. I’m not planning to do much sourcing in the next two months (a little, but not much).
I’m currently working on glass and ceramic collectables (from my one commission), and I’ve got my large purchase of vintage radios and a few death pile things.
You should take a look at your seller dashboard (I’m not sure whether you need a store subscription to see this):
https://sellerstandards.ebay.com/dashboard?region=USEach metric has an arrow at the end of the title. If you click on it, it will show you where your performance stands among other sellers. You can see that there is some room to allow a few returns and mistakes here and there. They don’t expect you to be perfect.
If you were a frequent violator or had excessive returns, then you might lose top rated seller and your final value fees could increase.
Latch hook rug! That’s what they’re called. I couldn’t think of the name, but that is what I was talking about in my comments earlier.
Mine are showing up, but I have to scroll down to see them. They are showing up after items that had already renewed before I created the listing. My new listings are getting a 30 day time before renewal, while these other listings have a 31 day time. That is why they are remaining on top while the new ones are pushed down.
This assumes you are sorting “Time Left” descending in Seller Hub. It does seem like another weird eBay glitch.
It looks like one of those loom rugs I used to do as a kid. You make a square maybe 8″x8″ with these stretchy cotton loops. Then, you sew them together to make a bigger rug sort of thing. Mine never came out as nice as the one in the photo, so I don’t know.
I searched on loom rug on eBay, and here are the loop things used to make the rugs:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Folk-Toys-1-Pound-of-Cotton-Loops-for-Wooden-Weaving-Looper-Loom-All-Colors-Y578/221412443776?epid=1860517704&hash=item338d35c680:g:GpIAAOSwVLRaYlzvI wasn’t able to find any completed ones. The loom rugs sold were all professional ones done on much larger scale.
I made sure to get my stuff to the Goodwill yesterday so that I could count them all! I had about 33.
I might have missed a thing or two in my somewhat disorganized / somewhat organized methods I used, but I’m nowhere near what some of you have accomplished! I did accomplish the target count, so that is what counts!
