Ha – I just noticed that your title said “Taxes” and I automatically read it as “Texas”!! And, I see you are from Georgia! So, silly me, you need to find Georgia’s reseller permit application, not the one from Texas 🤪.
Ah, my confusion. I just looked up refills for my printer, and a toner cartridge costs about $77 and a new printer is about $100 on sale. So, I see what you mean especially if you are about to need a new color printer.
Did you check if label printers are wireless these days? Perhaps that will work better for you.
I use my laser printer for the pick list and scan form. They come out too small on the label (in my opinion) plus a plain white sheet of paper is much cheaper. I use the label printer only for the label.
Why decommission a laser printer over an inkjet? I received a laser printer as a gift during the holidays and have been using it for about a month now, and I will never buy another inkjet. I have the old inkjet just in case I need to print something in color.
To directly answer your first question, you don’t absolutely need to get a reseller’s permit. However, it is beneficial and saves you money if you are planning to purchase inventory from auctions where tax would normally be charged.
A reseller permit (or sales tax certificate) allows you to buy items to resell without having to pay sales tax on them. If you are just passing along the items to the end user, then sales tax doesn’t have to be paid twice (once by you and second by whoever you sell it to). It saves you money.
eBay does now collect and pay the sales tax, so you don’t have to. However, that is independent of whether you originally paid sales tax or not.
You can google to find the government website that would have Texas’ reseller permit application. I don’t remember, but I think you don’t need to register a company name in order to have a reseller permit. That would be something to verify.
I bought a used Dymo 4XL on eBay maybe two years ago. It is wired and plugs into my Mac. I have a small shelf on my desk that holds both my new Brother printer and the Dymo.
Perhaps the newer ones come wireless, but they don’t take up much desk space if you have to plug it in.
Members Only is still around, and I don’t think that they ever went out of business. I have a newer Members Only coat for sale, but the label is different. I am not familiar with this one.
If you printed the label from PayPal, then you should copy and paste the tracking number into eBay for that return. Not sure why you couldn’t print directly from eBay. You would have to call them.
Thanks for the podcast. I also have a Brother laser printer for the new year. It cost $99, but I asked for it as a gift so I didn’t actually pay for it. Love it! It’s almost like a thermal printer where the ink doesn’t need replacing often and it always prints without streaks. My color inkjet needs printer head cleaning way too often.
Week of Feb 2 – 8
* Total Items in Store: 1454 eBay, 34 Etsy
* Items Sold: 24 eBay
* Cost of Items Sold: $32.39 + $22.70 Commission
* Total Sales: $384.61 eBay
* Highest Price Sold: $55 lot of 9 vintage airline playing cards new & sealed
* Average Price Sold: $16
* Returns: 0
* Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $23
* Number of items listed this week: 2I sold quite a few items (for me), but the average price sold is pretty low. So far this week (Sunday and today), I’m selling much higher value items. We’ll see how it goes.
I went to an auction for the first time in months. I hate going to auctions around the holidays, so I just skip. I didn’t spend much, but I have seven more vintage radios to clean and test! These sell so nicely, even nonworking, and some of them for decent prices. I’m also working on some deathpile items, which I’m really happy about. Hopefully, I will list much more this week.
On the other end of the scale from Libby, I did two listings.
I had car problems where I had to bring the car back twice because the issue wasn’t fixed. They didn’t charge me much, but it ate up my time. Then I went to an auction on Friday, which was a full day affair. Oh, and I did sell quite a few things, so there’s that.
I went to an auction on Friday, and one box lot was a large number of Jadeite cups and saucers. I didn’t bother bidding. It went very high, I think close to $100. Jadeite is mentioned in that article as getting popular again.
I have been able to get claims paid by FedEx. I had a claim once through FedEx Smartpost, and they did not pay.
I would use Smartpost only for non-breakable (or, at least, less fragile) items. The weight and size region where Smartpost is less costly than FedEx Ground is rather small these days, so I don’t bother providing it as an option.
BTW, I recently had a claim through the USPS. For the first time, they told me that the damaged item with the packaging had to be brought into the nearest post office. Like you, I had already refunded the buyer. I called to explain that I didn’t think that the buyer would bring it in, but they insisted that the claim would be denied otherwise. They also said that the USPS was pushing back on fraud, and that their software selected cases for additional proof. Miracle upon miracle, my buyer actually brought the broken item into their post office, but they had thrown out the packaging. After all this, my claim was still denied.
The moral of this story, I guess, is that it is getting harder to get a claim paid, but Smartpost is definitely the most difficult to get covered. Make sure to double box all fragile items and use plenty of bubble-wrap. I did do this myself, but I had two vases in a smaller box. I should have boxed them separately as one probably hit against the other.

We are having a mild winter on the east coast, but my husband reminded me yesterday that the bugs will be out in force this year if it stays this way.
I had some interesting sales last week.
This sale marks the last of my square head nail supply. I had been selling 8 ounces (minimum 40 nails) for $4.95 plus a flat shipping rate of $4.99 no matter how many were ordered. Mostly, people were paying for just one, and I would make about $1 on shipping. However, one guy bought three and then made a second purchase of seven wiping out the remainder. It was a nice listing. Created once, and kept selling a few times a month. Paid maybe $1 (total) out of a $5 auction lot of wooden barrels and nails. Made about $200 over about 1 1/2 years.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/183677160165Sold two whiskey pitchers to one buyer from my auction purchase in September. Paid about a quarter each. Many of them are Scotch whiskeys. Glenfarclas is apparently a big brand. The Isle of Jura pitcher was made in Italy.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/183982410046Out of my big radio auction purchase, also in September, I sold two larger Zenith radios, both to the same lady. The first was a Trans-Oceanic Royal 1000, which appears to be the first model that came out in the late 1950s. It sold for best offer of $100. I actually have seven more Trans-Oceanics to list! The second was an early 1960s Royal 2000, which only has AM and FM, but is considered to be an excellent radio. I was able to get $90 for it. Each radio from this auction cost me less than $3.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/184153908049I bought an older, used Dymo off eBay. Maybe the newer models work better. Perhaps Ryanne can give us a report on her new Rollo after she uses it for both USPS and FedEx.
Sorry, I am subscribed to this thread, but, for some reason, I didn’t get an email that there were new responses.
Yes, I print out FedEx labels from eBay the same way I do USPS labels.
