Do boxes full of recently washed kitchen and dining ware blocking my passage from one room to another inspire me to list, list, list? Oh, yes it does! I listed 72 items last week. I don’t keep track, but that is a record for sure.
No room to work on the challenge, but I have some thoughts to get some work done on it this week. I still have boxes of stuff lying around and more in the garage, so we’ll see.

OMGosh, Sharyn, that’s fantastic! It’s easy to see your past listings, the entire history is saved in that spreadsheet. I’ll look it up for you tomorrow when I update the spreadsheet.
Another zero for me, unfortunately. I spent the week trying to populate my new booth in a local mall. I decided to give the booth a try when I got tired of packing and shipping my oversized items, like the binnacle. Of course, before I could get the binnacle into the booth, it sold on eBay! ROFLMAO!
I’m looking forward to hearing a report back of VL’s Spring Show. It looked amazing!

35 new listings for me last week.
Wishing everyone a great week!

4 listings for me last week. I don’t have any good excuses, I was just lazy and unengaged, But it’s a new week and I will do better.
Have a good week.

Another very deserved win for Sharyn! And I checked, your highest number ever was 60 listings in 2019. So yes, this is a record for you!
Congratulations all on getting through another week. How are those Challenges coming? I’ve gotten as far as identifying which shelf “Shelf #3” is…. LOL

04/12/2022 at 1:17 pm #95883
Please put me down for zero listings for the past two weeks but I had a good excuse.
My first Brookhaven Spring Show in 3 years….the last one was April 2019. It was warmly received by customers and a whole lot of fun. I am still recovering however, catching up on sleep and taking lots of tylenol for the aches of moving heavy furniture and the like.
I’ll get back to listing this week and hope to get some good numbers.
Congrats on selling the binnacle Amatino, and Sharyn….congrats on a HUGE listing number!

Woo hoo! Gonna give Sharyn some serious competition this week with my whopping 2 listings!
😀
Actually, I spent last week (apart from working on the dreaded taxes) moving stuff across to my booth. Does it count as “listing” if I’ve researched*, priced*, inventoried*, tagged*, and put into display nearly 200 items? However, I’m concerned that I may be dealing with an astronomical anomaly. I think there’s a black hole in my space! Nearly 200 items in there and it still looks less than half full! I did NOT realize how much time it would take to do all of the * stuff! I’m hoping to get it done this month, though. I’ve ordered a clothes display rack and a couple more display forms, they’re scheduled to come in next Wednesday 27th, so I’m going to try to get all the hard goods in this week, and then all the clothes done next week, because I have to get my Mother’s Day display up too. VL – I have no idea how you do all this in such a short time for your shows! Himself was right, it’s going to take a few months for me to find my feet and get this thing making money!

35 new listings for me last week. I’m chugging along at my current self-imposed pace of 5 new listings per day.
I had 2 instances of good customer service paying off. 2 people said they would purchase if I made changes to my listings. One wanted me to combine 2 listings into one with a discount and one wanted me to take one item out of a listing (they already owned one of the items included in the listing) and discount the listing price.
It is extra work to rephotograph and change listing descriptions but I ended up with two sales on Easter Sunday by doing so. And I would have had a zero sales day yesterday without those 2 sales.
Wishing everyone a productive week!

04/18/2022 at 12:06 pm #95954
15 listings for me last week. I was hoping for more, but I was still catching up on Brookhaven stuff, like the bookkeeping, which takes me at least 10 hours to complete.
Amatino, to be fair, it takes us 5 days to set up the show and do all the displays and I have a team of 7-8 helping me and putting in long hours. Setting up a booth as you are doing is a lot of work, but once you get it where you want it, it won’t be nearly as much work, and I hope you are having fun doing it.
On another note, my sales on Ebay were DISMAL last week. I had three days in a row without any sales, and in all the years of selling of Ebay that has never happened before. I don’t remember two days in a row without sales, let alone 3. It’s very discouraging and disconcerting. The only thing I can think to do is to tweak some of my listings and make sure I am consistently listing this week. I’m in the glumps about it, to be honest.
-
04/18/2022 at 5:42 pm #95959
@Amatino – Actually, I’m surprised I had a 60 listing week in the past. I think I list so much faster these days. I thought it was way above anything I had done before.
I listed 41 this week, still riding off that inspiration from last week. On one hand, I am almost through it; on the other hand, I have about 50 automotive books in my garage from the live auction I went to about two weeks ago. My husband took this week off, and I’m supposed to help him with some painting, so I might finish listing the housewares but just prep the books.
For my challenge, I wrote up my eBay store description. I haven’t uploaded it yet. For the banner, I’m thinking I just line up a bunch of interesting items from the store, take a photo, and then crop it to better fit the banner format. Anything else would be too complicated.
-
04/18/2022 at 10:30 pm #95961
I only had 2 new listings last week, but at least I avoided the dreaded zero.

29 listings for me. I don’t think I posted my number last week – I had 41.

ROFL! Great timing, JB! I was just searching the forum for your name to see if I’d missed a note that you’d be away, when your post popped up!

Spreadsheet updated and Sharyn wins the week again. You’re on fire, girl! 😉 Well done on working through your challenge too.
Nice going on the customer service, VT. Glad that worked out as sales for you.
VL, do you do promoted listings? My sales were tanked, seriously close-my-store low. Then I read a couple of posts about PL and added a whopping 1.1% PL to all my new listings. Voila – sales are up! I think that eBay is now in the Pay to Play arena. However, it was tax week last week, so folks are going “I have to pay HOW much?” and their ire at the IRS (aren’t I punny? LOL) has resulted in a no-spending resolution, that will last about two weeks or so.
Home stretch, people. Just over 10 days until the end of the month. Let’s get to work on those Designated Challenges, shall we? We can use this forum to bounce ideas off each other, if you’re stuck on a problem. I posted about needing to store polymailers and there were a bunch of great ideas! Whatever your issue, somebody here is likely to have a solution.

POP UP CHALLENGE!
These monthly challenges are kicking your collective butts! Let’s have a quick pop up challenge then.
The Designated Challenge this month is #9. Look up #9 and decide on a smaller “bite.” What small thing could you do to make it easier to work on the challenge for the next week? What bite out of the challenge could you take that would make you feel like you’ve taken a step forward? If the whole challenge is too big to do in the remaining 9 days, what smaller piece of it could you finish that will make you feel that you’ve done something?
Your pop up challenge is to do it! Do that one bite!
Report back on Monday.

I did it! I spent an hour last night sorting through a pile of vintage jewelry, determining which pieces to list online and which should go in my case at the vintage mall. Now I have my 25 pieces pulled and ready to list. Mission accomplished. Thanks for the nudge, Amatino!
-
04/25/2022 at 11:07 am #96030
Well done, VL! Yay!
Hmmm… I did better than I thought I did, with 5 listings for last week. Which is about a quarter of what I wanted to do, but still.
My Challenge is complete. I’ve cleared my Shelf #3 and reset it as my working shelf, which is the original purpose of the shelf. It’s a complete pain in the patootie to do these challenges, but these are all items that I have needed to do and never found the time, so getting them done is Da Bomb!
-
04/25/2022 at 11:10 am #96031
35 new listings for me last week.
Congrats to Vintage Lacy on taking Amatino’s nudge and running with it. Unfortunately for me the nudge was just another missed opportunity – lol.
Make it a great week everyone!

04/25/2022 at 11:18 am #96032
I listed 28 items this week. Still good, but a downward trend that I expect will go on for another week or two.
I also completed my challenge! On Saturday, I gathered a bunch of nice stuff from my store and put them across a couch against a blanket. The banner is really narrow and long, so it didn’t fit all that well. So, I relocated everything along a wall with a longer blanket and swapped a few taller things with shorter ones, and it worked. I uploaded the photo and the store description I wrote a week or so ago. Check it out:

04/25/2022 at 11:47 am #96034
I had the very best of intentions this past week, but a few things got in the way and I only managed 15 listings, and while I did sort the jewelry…none of it is listed yet. Thankfully we still have this week.
I got the 2nd booster shot, and like the other previous shots….I spent a couple of days sleeping off the resulting fever and lethargy. But a bigger problem came along as well….you may remember my mentioning an elder abuse situation in my family….it reared it’s ugly head again last week and I spent many hours, with my brothers, trying to resolve the situation. Ugh.
I have hopes that this week will be much better. Onwards and upwards.

04/25/2022 at 12:06 pm #96035
Sharyn congrats to you also on finishing up your challenge for April. Your banner looks fantastic and your store description is wonderful as well. A job well done and very inspiring!
-
04/25/2022 at 1:22 pm #96039
Sharyn, your mission, should you choose to accept it, will be to write up a How To for creating a store banner! Wow, that looks fantastic! Very well done indeed!
VT, oh no! No no no no no. Elder abuse is the most despicable thing, right up there with preying on children. My heart goes out to you and I wish that it may be resolved as quickly as possible. Also, may the fleas of a thousand camels infest that abuser’s hairy bits – and mostly the unseen bits! 🙁
-
04/25/2022 at 1:29 pm #96040
Sharyn that is a great banner! I love that you staged it and took the photo yourself – that makes it so unique and special. I just used a free photo I found on Canva so mine is rather generic.
43 listings for me. This morning I had my most profitable sale ever! A Christmas ornament I sold for $424. Its my 2nd highest sale but due to the low COGS ($5), it’s my most profitable. I bought it at an estate sale where several other resellers had been in the room before me and they all missed it.

04/25/2022 at 8:50 pm #96051
You all know basic photography for making listings, so walking through the steps I made to get the banner should be no big deal. It really was just a trial and error thing.
I pasted a Imgur link below. The first photo shows the photo I ended up using, but you can see the full thing with the comforter I threw on the floor and all the stuff I put on it. The second photo is from a slightly different level looking down, and you can see it a bit better. Then, the last photo is the first time I tried it on the couch. The problem was that it wasn’t long enough and the painting and lamp were too high and got cut off. That is when I figured I needed a new location and wider blanket.
When you select “manage Store”, there is a button for “add a banner”. You upload the photo, which gets cut off at the top and bottom. You can move it around until you get it the way you want it to appear.
Some notes:
Amatino suggested the banner and description as a challenge, so thanks!
The painting I originally picked out, but was too big, is really my favorite art piece in my inventory. It just has correct balance and the colors have stood the test of time really well. It has a 1960 date on the front. I was able to research the painter, who was a commercial artist, and he listed the locations that the painting was displayed on the back.
The painting I replaced it with was also a published artist. One of her relatives/descendants contacted me a few years ago asking about the paintings in my inventory (I have two of the same painter, same house). She said she was interested in the paintings, but couldn’t afford them at the time. I would have negotiated, but she did not ask. I’m sure I have them listed too high because I am a disciple of Ryanne’s. LOL

04/26/2022 at 10:22 am #96058
JB, wow, what a fantastic sale! Good find! Well done!
Sharyn, thank you! That was very informative. And great paintings, I love good artwork!
Spreadsheet updated. JB had the highest listing, but as she was last year’s winner, she gets a blue number in the spreadsheet as an Honorable Mention. The win goes to VT. Well done – goes to proof that steady listing is the best!
Right, down to the last 4 days. VL, Sharyn, and I have completed ours. Has anyone else done theirs? If you don’t have time to finish it this week, perhaps you could break it down into steps and complete Step #1 this week? I’d take that as a win!
-
04/26/2022 at 10:52 am #96059
Posting my numbers late for last week (as usual). I had 27 new listings which was an improvement over the last few weeks.
I am making progress on my challenge which was cleaning up one large death pile. If I focus on it this week. I should be able to finish. It won’t all be listed but it will be organized sorted and off the floor.
Have a great week!
-
04/26/2022 at 11:15 am #96063
I actually haven’t completed my April challenge…I just took the first step. Hoping to get more done this week. Sharyn, your banner looks fantastic and so inviting. Well done!
Julie congrats on the amazing ornament sale..what a thrill. It’s what we all live for! It’s especially fun when other resellers miss these items. Last month at the bins we found several great vintage books AFTER a pair of vintage book dealer guys had already gone through that particular bin. Heh heh heh.
Thanks y’all for the good thoughts. Everyone is posting good listing numbers and I hope to do the same for this week.

My #11 is Challenger’s Choice. As I had to skip March due to being away, I’m going to choose to catch up with my March item, which was to do my F Category inventory stock check. I would have much preferred to do something new, but needs must.
-
05/02/2022 at 10:43 am #96115
Listed only one item this week, on Facebook, but it sold yesterday for $800.
I’d be happy to list only one item a week if I could do that every week! 😀
-
05/02/2022 at 12:12 pm #96116
Darn, I only listed 20 items last week. I’m going out of town later this week but I’m still hoping to do better than 20 listings for this week.
Congrats on the high ticket sale Amatino, that’s fantastic! And congrats to Julie also, your ornament sale is an eBay sellers dream come true. Finding something no one else picks up at an estate sale that’s worth so much is reseller Nirvana!
Wishing everyone a good week!
-
05/02/2022 at 2:12 pm #96118
I listed 21 items last week.
@Amatino – that would work as a business plan. Sell one item a week for $800 or more!My challenge #11 is “Decide how I should list my old stamp collection”. This was something I did as a kid (probably pre-preteen) up to summers during college, and then I stopped. It’s a decently sized collection.
I have thought about it since I wrote up the challenge, and I need to do some research. The best way for me to do this, I believe, is to create a new store for only stamps. I would have a single shipping cost no matter how many stamps a person bought, and I would sell them one by one or in small groups. I could also add general ephemera that I find at auctions, and then I could keep up the store well into the future.
The problem is that I do not have the time to do that with my part time job and my normal eBay activities. What I need to do is verify that is the best method, and then decide if I want to sell off certain items and do the rest later when my job ends, or figure something else out.
I can sell everything off: one listing for my main international binder, one for my Canadian binder, one for my duplicates, one for special stamps, and so forth.
All I have to do for my challenge is just to decide. It would be nice to list a few things, but the challenge is just to come up with a plan.

23 listings for me last week.
-
05/03/2022 at 11:35 am #96129
UtahBill, last week’s numbers updated. Did you manage to finish your April Challenge?
Sharyn, your challenge is very interesting. Let us know what you decide!
Spreadsheet updated. VL gets an Honorable Mention, as she listed the highest but cannot win. Sharyn takes the prize instead by only ONE! That was close, VT!
How many folks have actually finished all their monthly challenges to date? Am I correct that only Sharyn has done so? I’ve done all but March, being that I was away for the month, but I think Sharyn has finished all 4 so far. Just curious. The challenges were accepted by everyone as a great idea at the beginning of the year, but motivation has been slowing. I’m wondering if I should introduce some more pop up challenges.
-
05/03/2022 at 10:22 pm #96154
I managed 14 listings last week. I put a good dent in my challenge which was the clean up of a big death pile, but a big sourcing opportunity came up and I did not complete the challenge.
-
-
05/03/2022 at 1:03 pm #96132
I’ve found the challenges to be quite motivating (obviously :)), but I’ve also kept most of them to be “small bites”. I actually really don’t HAVE to do anything with this month’s challenge except for some research and thinking. One month was just to go to a few thrift shops. I could have gone to two and not bought anything and still say the challenge was completed.
Maybe go through the challenges and reduce the scope. I think someone wanted to list vintage patterns. Maybe change it to list one vintage pattern. Maybe that is all you do, but at least you completed the challenge.
Now, here’s a challenge: I won the challenge award two years ago, so I’m back in contention this year. Who’s going to take me on?
-
05/03/2022 at 1:19 pm #96134
Whew Sharyn! Way to throw down the gauntlet! Makes me wish I COULD take on your challenge…but there’s always next year, right?
You have no idea how much I needed to read what you wrote today about the monthly challenges. I too find them inspiring, even though I haven’t accomplished most of the ones so far. I think it’s a brilliant idea to break them into manageable bites. For example, I may not have listed 25 pieces of vintage jewelry, as intended, but what I did accomplish was to pull them from storage, where they had been languishing for TOO long, and get them sorted. I was able to price about 40 pieces and put them into my glass case at the antique mall, and that’s a win for me. I’m going to view it differently from here on out.
On a personal note, I just found out that I have to move, after 10 years in the same house. It’s a very daunting prospect, on many levels. After my initial shock, I am choosing to view it as an adventure, and a fresh start. When it starts feeling overwhelming….I try to break the whole process into manageable bites. How does a mouse eat an elephant? (or an object the size of an elephant?)
One bite at a time.
Thanks, Sharyn.

05/03/2022 at 1:49 pm #96137
35 listings for me – once again I’m posting late.
I don’t even know where my monthly challenge list is anymore. It’s somewhere on an overflowing pile on my desk. Lately I’ve felt like I’ve been treading water and can’t quite seem to get ahead. Honestly, I do spend a lot of time on unproductive things and going sourcing when I don’t need to. And if I don’t feel like doing something I won’t do it. This has resulted in a messy house, bad diet, piles of inventory getting out of control, etc. So about two weeks ago I decided I’d try to do 1% better (or exert myself 1% more) than what I felt like doing. This applies to anything – cleaning, taking care of myself, ebay, healthy eating, etc. The beauty of it is 1% is easy to do and you actually end up doing more than 1%. So far it seems to be helping me.
-
05/03/2022 at 3:16 pm #96141
My challenge #11 was “Do trials of List Perfectly and other listing services to see if I want to use one permanently”.
My issues with not completing any of the monthly challenges are 1: Like Julie B, I only do things I want to do when I want to do them. 2: Ideas I quickly thought up to be ready to start the challenge may no longer apply. And 3: I’m a world class procastinator who can only manage one day at a time.
Problems 1 and 3 are surmountable with discipline as Julie pointed out, although I haven’t managed to do so yet – lol!
But problem 2 is a real problem. My challenge this month no longer makes any sense for me to work on. Like Vintage Lacy, I may be moving soon and with home downsizing my eBay store will have to become a niche store. Ebay is the only platform I’ll need to be on as I won’t be expanding my sales.
-
05/03/2022 at 9:25 pm #96151
VT – Maybe your challenge should be to research one listing service so that you can make a faster informed decision after you move.
Good luck to both of you in your move. My husband and I talk about selling our home when we become empty nesters in a few years. It will be rough. I will definitely sell off a large chunk of my eBay store as well as some of our no-longer-needed furniture and belongings in an online auction or two. I’ll want to pare things down even before we put the place on the market. It will be a mess.
-
05/03/2022 at 10:27 pm #96155
My wife and I are facing the downsizing challenge in the next couple of years and it is beyond daunting. My plan is to get a small storage unit and put our must keep items in it. Bring in an estate sale company, go on a vacation during the sale, return to collect the check, and put a for sale sign in the front lawn.
What do you all think of my plan?

Here you go, JB, your TEDC list: https://www.scavengerlife.com/forums/topic/listing-challenge-2022-thread-1/#post-94488
Aren’t you glad you posted it, now? 😉
Woah, Sharyn! You’re introducing a Challenge challenge? ROFL. You ARE such a go-getter! 😀 Thank you for posting the breakdown idea. I think a lot of folks will find that helpful.
VL, huge empathy for the upcoming move. Having just moved The Bratness, I am intimately and currently in touch with how stressful that is. Sending you lots of best wishes for all the help you need and all the resources to come to you as you need them. I love your new viewpoint.
VT, I think niches are great. You seem to do really well with your niche items, so I think it’s terrific that you’re narrowing down. Good luck with your move too.
-
05/03/2022 at 9:27 pm #96152
Hum, I know who “Himself” is. Not sure of the “Bratness”.
-
-
05/04/2022 at 11:03 am #96159
UtahBill, that is a great plan! With one caveat – put more stuff into storage than you think you’ll want to keep. In the endorphin rush of “getting rid of clutter” we often get rid of too much clutter! Then we regret not keeping Great Grandma Mabel’s Siamese cat night light! If you pack the storage unit with all your must keep items, go back home, take a deep, slow breath, and pack a couple more boxes, thoughtfully. If you decide, in the end, that you don’t want them, you can always put them on eBay, donate them to a thrift shop, or have a Moving Yard Sale. Also, I love the idea of being away on vacation for the estate sale – so much emotional baggage is tied up in our stuff! Just beware, you or your wife may have a slight emotional breakdown on return to see all your things have gone. That’s a normal side effect of decluttering that the TV shows don’t show!
Sharyn, I tell everyone I have 3 kids. My youngest is my grandson, Squiggs. His mom, my middle child, is The Bratness. And, of course, my oldest is Himself, my husband. 😀

05/08/2022 at 9:29 am #96215
I think my post was lost but I had 15 listings for the week.
-
05/08/2022 at 7:18 pm #96226
I listed 38 for the week.
I submitted a question to eBay for Business on Facebook about whether I could build a store with only a single shipping cost. This has to do with my challenge for this month. I doubt it will come to anything. I did look around at other postal stamp listings, and you either need to use just a stamp to ship and take the risk, or have something large and valuable enough that the trackable shipping cost is worth it.
-
05/09/2022 at 9:12 am #96230
I just heard back from eBay for Business. You can set a flat shipping rate for your store at the following link:
https://www.ebay.com/ship/prf
I’ll save this to my Microsoft Notebook program. If I ever decide to do it, I’ll be able to find the setting.

7 listings for the week.
-
05/09/2022 at 10:40 pm #96242
I had 10 listings.
Have a great week!
-
05/10/2022 at 2:41 pm #96249
Spreadsheet updated and Sharyn gave us all a resounding slap this week! Good listing number, Sharyn, and thanks for the link.
That’s a seriously low number for you, VL. Still struggling with stuff? Sending you warm and fuzzies and hopes that it gets better soon!
I had zero again last week. Pity I can’t count my booth items, I’m over 300 there! I got a very bad placement, but there has been an extremely unpopular change in management and the booths are emptying out like crazy. This is a bad thing overall, but it has opened up a better booth, so I’ll be working on moving items this month as well. I had hoped that the booth work would settle allowing me to return to eBay. Guess not. 🙁

05/16/2022 at 8:21 am #96306
21 listings for the week. Which is a miracle, considering.
-
05/16/2022 at 9:25 am #96307
Only 9 listings for me.
In my original post last Sunday (which disappeared) I stated that I’d be out of town for one day during that week and for half of this last posting week. So I knew my listing numbers would be lower for two consecutive weeks.
I did think I’d have more listings for this post but social obligations and resting up from traveling brought me way off my 5 listings per day goal. I’m hoping to get back to my usual listing game this week. Fingers crossed!
Wishing everyone a productive week ahead!

I listed 19 items last week.
As part of my challenge, I did pull out a few items from my old stamp collection to list. It is crazy that I will not be able to sell many of these items for much more than what I bought them for. That is a loss considering that I purchased them in the ’80s. At least my hobby as a kid is something that I can sell rather than money that just went out the door.

05/16/2022 at 11:11 pm #96317
I was out of town for part of the week and only managed to post 7 listings.
-
05/23/2022 at 5:13 pm #96404
Just 22 new listings for me. I still haven’t gotten back into the swing of listing daily since being out of town weeks ago. Last week I was doing well until I got my second booster on Friday – then didn’t feel great (or like listing) over the weekend.
So (even though I’m already behind on listings for this week) I’m definitely going to make my listing goal on my next post. Wishing the same for everyone else!

05/23/2022 at 6:04 pm #96408
I listed six items last week. I’m now in the mist of a very busy work schedule as well as trying to get some house projects completed. We have family events coming up next weekend and later in June, so I’m not expecting to large listing numbers for awhile.
I did list three items from my stamp collection, so I think I can consider May’s challenge closed.
-
05/24/2022 at 10:03 am #96422
I listed 33 items last week, but sales remain very slow.
Have a great week everyone.
-
05/24/2022 at 10:36 am #96423
18 listings for the week.
Amatino, can you please change my weekly goal to 25 listings? It is much more realistic for the year, considering this summer will be all about the BIG move, and then into the busy Fall and Christmas season.
The good news is that we found a wonderful house, complete with large shop where I can store my inventory. It’s going to take months to get it set up properly and organized and so forth. I’ve been purging like crazy and have donated three minivan loads so far, but there’s still going to be a ton to move.
Hope everyone has a great week ahead!

Sincere apologies to all for the prolonged silence. I came down with a severe kidney infection out of the blue (never heard of a kidney infection without an UTI first, but okay) and was down and out. Worst possible time too!
Last week VL had an honorable mention with the highest number, but Sharyn took the win. Congrats on getting your May challenge completed, Sharyn. Anyone else done anything with theirs?
This week UtahBill has wiped the floor with a very convincing win! Well done!
Spreadsheet updated.
Congratulations on the new house, VL! How exciting for you! It’s a huge job to move house, and purging is an excellent way to reduce what you need to move. Sending best wishes that absolutely everything goes to plan!

Happy Memorial Day everyone!
I managed 27 new listings last week. I was hoping for more but I’d forgotten this was Memorial Day weekend with lots of social obligations.
I was happy to see that although I’d assumed that Memorial Day weekend would mean slow eBay sales, mine seem to have picked up. Fingers crossed it stays that way, as it’s been pretty slow lately.
Wishing everyone a productive and profitable week!
-
05/30/2022 at 7:06 pm #96515
1 single solitary listing for me last week. It’s all about packing and purging. Packing, packing some more, and did I mention packing?
-
05/30/2022 at 8:22 pm #96516
Too busy with work and a family event during Memorial Day weekend. I listed 0. I did some photography and list creation, so I will definitely have something for next week.
-
05/31/2022 at 10:03 am #96522
What a slow week for everyone! Except VT who just blitzed her way to a win! LOL
VL, good luck on all the packing!
We seem to have lost JB and JR. :'(

Just 6 listings for me last week and sales remain very slow.

05/31/2022 at 11:56 am #96530
Can I get back in? I’ve just quit my day job so Ebay will be my only part-time work. I listed 17 items last week. Thanks!
I haven’t been following this thread but see others are slow. I only have about 260 items left in my store now but will be building up. Things have been super slow for a couple of weeks now.
-

06/02/2022 at 11:18 am #96541
and? and? Amatino, you are hilarious!
I was hoping for an easy challenge because I’m going to be very busy this month, but my #1 is to list as many death pile items as possible. Maybe not so many are possible because of my schedule? Love how I worded each one to get me out of having to do too much work but still say I completed the challenge :).
-
06/02/2022 at 1:34 pm #96542
ROFL. I wonder how many OCD people are going to read that post and go nuts! Wicked!
I have to admit, it took a HUGE effort of will to not complete the sentence. I almost edited it, then I had to stop myself from posting some more again. LOL
My #1 is also a killer! I have to list all the printer parts. I have a tote full of the parts from a stripped Canon printer, and there’s a reason it’s still under my frame. In fact, I think it’s under a tote, under a pile of stuff, under my frame. I think I’m going to call this one my armpit challenge. It’s the one that you don’t want to look at, so you keep your arm closed and hide it under your armpit! We’re under construction, I’ve got so much on my plate, and this one has to come up. Ugh!
Last month’s Choice challenge ended up with me “choosing” to not do a challenge. I don’t think that was the original plan, but at least I haven’t missed a designated challenge. Or ‘another’ designated challenge, as I didn’t complete the April challenge.
-
06/02/2022 at 4:03 pm #96543
I probably don’t need to state this – but I didn’t complete (or even start!) the May challenge. In fact I’m pretty positive I’ve not completed a single challenge yet this year 🙁
But I have high hopes for the June challenge even though it involves something I’ll usually do anything to avoid. My challenge #1 is to list all the clothes (except my SIL’s) that are in my basement. Considering all my DPs reside in my basement, and I recently cleaned out my closet and put all the clothes I no longer wear in my basement, it’s not a small task. I’m not a clothing seller and I dislike listing clothing (too many measurements, and too many returns) so this challenge won’t be easy for me. But I’m really going to give it my best. Fingers crossed!

Hello Everyone. I’m back. My dad died kind of unexpectedly on May 4th so I went home for a month to be with my mom and get some things taken care of for her. Having my stores turned off for a month meant no income for a month so I will be hopefully a listing fiend this month.
Silver lining to dad’s passing was we were able to finally rehome 40 cats that he had been hoarding. They lived outside and in an attached garage. Rehoming that many cats would have been impossible if not for local farmers looking for barn cats. It was not easy but the cats are finally gone and their mess has been cleaned up. I did keep one kitty who was just too sweet and friendly to be a barn cat. Adding a 4th pet to the family is pretty much the last thing we needed but here we are.
The week I left I had 11 listings – I think that was week 19? 0 listings for every week after that.
-
06/03/2022 at 10:15 am #96545
Oh Julie, my condolences to you on your Dad passing away. Your Mom must be so grateful to have a daughter who was able to come and help out for a whole month.
One of the best things about being self-employed is the ability to take time off when you’re needed elsewhere. When I worked in the corporate world they only allowed 3 days for bereavement leave.
-
06/03/2022 at 11:07 am #96546
Great job Julie going to help for so long. I’m sure your mom really appreciated that and will remember it always. I’m sorry to hear about your loss. Hopefully EBay will rebound quickly for you once you are listing again.
-
06/06/2022 at 11:06 am #96583
I listed 21 items this past week. I’m pretty sure that will be my highest for this month unless I go gangbusters during the last week.
My son graduates from high school on the 24th, and we will be having visitors for a few weeks. First though, my husband is finishing up our master bedroom project in the next day or two, and we need to move back in. Otherwise, our visitors will not have anywhere to sleep since we have been using the guest bedroom for the past few months.
@julie-b – So sorry for your loss. I hope you get back to “normal” soon, whatever that will be. -
06/06/2022 at 11:34 am #96585
30 new listings for me last week. I’m still not quite back to the number I strive for but it’s my highest # in the last 4 weeks so I’ll take it.
Wishing everyone a great week!
-
06/06/2022 at 11:49 am #96586
I’m back, too, although with goose eggs for whatever months I haven’t reported on. I finally seem to have more energy now that I have my allergy shots underway. My son is also graduating high school this week, so it has been a busy time but should settle down, hopefully.
Julie B, I echo what everyone else said about the gift you were able to give your mom (and all those cats!) by being able to take that time off to help. Sorry about your dad.
-
06/06/2022 at 12:03 pm #96587
Julie, please accept my sincere sympathies for your loss. Thank you for taking care of the kitties (although I’ve never heard of a colony of cats referred to as “hoarding!”) Share photos of your new furble? Sending hugs for your heart and your new baby. I will update the schedule with your numbers.
-
06/06/2022 at 1:18 pm #96590
I only had 6 listings last week and hope for better this week. My daughter is off school and booked solid next week so I hope to ramp up then if I can’t this week.
-
06/06/2022 at 4:29 pm #96593
Julie, I am very sorry for your loss.
I had 15 new listings last week.
Have a great week everyone!
-
06/06/2022 at 5:52 pm #96597
Thanks everyone for your kind words.
I was able to get 12 listings completed for the week.
Here is the new guy, Monkey. Named because he has the same “haircut” as those organ grinder monkeys. Exhibit A:
He also acts much like one. A very silly guy, adding lots of fun to the household.

06/07/2022 at 10:46 am #96606
So wonderful to have everyone back! Yay for Christine and JR coming back to the group. Hope the allergy meds make it work for you, JR.
Really sorry about your dad, Julie. Hugs to you! And I ADORE Monkey! Gorgeousness abounds!
Snap, Sharyn! We’re also in the middle of construction. Lots of changes here, will post updates soon for those who have been following my photo journey.
Lacy hasn’t posted, but I’m guessing she’s in the middle of major moving chaos. Good luck with all the packing, Lacy!
Our winner this week is VT! Yay!All that hard work paid off!
For those who have been away for a while, here’s the link to the spreadsheet again. Christine, if you go to the TELC Rules & Information, you’ll see the write up on the Designated Challenge for this year. If you’d like to write up your goals for the balance of the year (July to December), just cross out the numbers that have already been taken (3, 7, 9, 11, 12.) And then choose whatever you’d like for June. Here’s the PDF for the sheet, but you don’t have to use that. You can hit Reply to my post on the thread and just list the challenges, as others have done. That way, it will be easy for you to find your challenge each month, if you need to look it up. And… lok how easy I made it for you. Just hit the links and you’re sorted! LOL. It’s a great way to finally get that kick in the oomph to do stuff we’ve been putting off forever!
-
06/07/2022 at 10:48 am #96607
Memo to me: proofread before hitting submit, no matter how busy you are! LOL
I’m not going to edit, because so many times things go wrong and then it won’t post again. Just have a chuckle at my expense
-
06/07/2022 at 10:55 am #96608
Julie so truly sorry to hear about your dad. It sounds like you were exactly where you were needed and what a gift you gave to your mom and all those cats. Sending hugs from Oregon.
I had 10 listings this week. I’m trying to list at least a little, even though there is so much to do.
-
06/08/2022 at 1:04 pm #96622
Cute kitty up there. We have parakeets and a dog so no cats right now. We go to the cat therapy place to visit.
Wow Amatino you got fancy on me with this challenge thread! Currently, I’m still in transition from the big garage sale purge. I need to put back together our closets and clean up the garage. But I will make it a goal to make the goal sheets. 🙂 I will have more time to myself next week to get to that anyway. First goal is to list any new purchases promptly and so far I’m doing well with that. I just have the Royal Albert tea cups to clean and list. I went all in on almost a complete set so want to get those listed quickly.
-
06/13/2022 at 11:07 am #96658
Duh, I posted in the wrong thread, apparently…just 1 for me last week.
-
06/13/2022 at 11:53 am #96659
23 listings for me last week. While packing I ran across a box of very easy to list stuff, so I might have decent numbers this week too.
-
06/13/2022 at 12:17 pm #96660
42 listings
Hopefully I won’t jinx myself by saying this but I think this week should be relatively distraction-free so here’s hoping for a productive week of listing!
-
06/13/2022 at 12:54 pm #96661
11 items for me. This week I have more time free.
-
06/13/2022 at 3:08 pm #96663
I listed 12 items this week.
I’ve got family over now, and I’ve been distracted with moving my bookkeeping from GoDaddy to Wave. Not sure that I will list much in the next two weeks.
-
06/13/2022 at 3:27 pm #96665
29 new listings for me. I had zero listings over the weekend, my husband and I just returned from a 3 day trip up to the mountains.
Julie B: Monkey is adorable, and his name suits him perfectly!
Wishing everyone a great week!
-
06/14/2022 at 11:28 am #96671
Great week, everyone! So glad almost everyone is back on the board! VT wins the week again. Well done, VT!
My eBay Bestie has promised to kick my keister if I don’t get a listing up, so I’ll be back with y’all next Monday. I’ve finally finished working in my booth. This is what it looked like before the last of the shelves were stocked. (Of course, I forgot to take a photo after that was done! Doh!)
We have had SO much construction and other work going on. Outside looks like a lumber yard and it’s dangerous to walk anywhere, inside is covered with dust and debris. However, my bathroom is ALMOST finished and, on Sunday, I had my first bath ever in this house! It was glorious. Here is my bathroom when we moved in:
This was my sad attempt to make it look pretty
And here is the unreal transformation Himself magicked up
-
06/14/2022 at 11:44 am #96672
@Amatino – Gorgeous! Love the art above the toilet! Was the window added? There is so much more light in the room now.
The booth looks awesome too!
We just finished painting the walls and refinishing the wood floors in our bedroom. It had carpeting there before, so it is quite a difference. In a rush to move back into the room before my parents got here on Sunday, we had to delay a few finishing touches until later. Maybe I’ll snap a photo once it is fully complete.
I’m so glad to move out of the guest room, though!!
-
06/14/2022 at 2:43 pm #96676
Amatino – Bravo on a job well done with the remodel! The painted ceiling works in there perfectly. I like everything you did.
-
06/15/2022 at 10:55 am #96689
Yes, the window was a new addition. We used to have a mirror at the end of the haul because that side of the house was so dark and dreary. I can’t believe what a difference that window has made! The light floods through and into the hallway and it looks so open and beautiful now!
Thanks for the compliments, ladies. I’m really chuffed with the new space! We’re now halfway through our remodel, with finishing touches still needed in several places, but we’re getting there! I feel your pain, Sharyn! Looking forward to your photos.
-
06/15/2022 at 2:07 pm #96690
Wow, I can’t believe that’s the same space! Nice job to you both.
-
06/20/2022 at 11:08 am #96746
Happy Monday, y’all!
I’m back on the board. My eBay Bestie pretty much got tired of all my excuses and
naggednudged me back into listing. She is talented at kicking my keister so pleasantly that I thank her for doing it! And I managed 2 listings this week. Yes, only 2, but it’s two listings!Plus, even better, I started listing my printer parts, which is part of my Challenge for this month. I have 10 days left in the month, so let’s see if I can actually clear that bin! The game is ON! Who else is going to jump on board for a final 10-day push?
-
06/20/2022 at 11:21 am #96747
Hum, not me, at least not yet. My parents are here until Saturday, and my sister and her family were in town this past weekend. Listing was not in the plans, so put in 0 for me.
Once my parents leave, I’m going to work on the challenge and see what I can do for the last week or so of the month.
-
06/20/2022 at 12:04 pm #96750
I listed 22 items and only have photos left for a few more. Was hoping for better but have some life chaos going on.
Amatino – better some than none. Nice reno. We just had a pipe break and might be doing the last bathroom (kids’). Not the timing I would have chosen but oh well.
-
06/20/2022 at 1:06 pm #96753
Amatino, your bathroom is absolutely gorgeous! I love everything you did!
31 listings for me last week. I almost finished the box of easy to list items. This week is the big move though, so I will be slammed with other things.
-
06/20/2022 at 2:39 pm #96757
24 listings
-
06/20/2022 at 5:47 pm #96760
Amatino, your bathroom remodel is fantastic. It’s super charming and so beautiful – kudos to you and your hubs on a job well done!
26 new listings for me last week. Last Monday was a travel day for me so I had zero listings Monday, but I don’t have any really legit excuses for the other three days I didn’t list last week. Oops. I’ve been working hard sorting through and donating things in advance of downsizing our house though and that’s my not so legit excuse for low listing numbers.
At the end of this week until July 7th I’ll be on vacation. I don’t expect much from myself eBay-wise until after I get back. I’ve got a lot to do to prepare for the trip and for our nephew coming to house/cat sit.
Wishing everyone a great week!
-
06/21/2022 at 8:10 am #96762
Sorry about the pipe break, Christine, but hey – new bathroom! Gotta find the upside, right? LOL
Good luck for the move, VL! And happy travels, VT, hope you have a great trip.
Spreadsheet updated. VL listed the most, but as she’s out due to winning last year, VT took the win. Wow, you guys were all so close with your numbers this week!
Wishing you all a great week.
-
06/26/2022 at 12:28 pm #96786
So proud of myself with 37 listings. Yeah! My daughter starts a performance camp so it is four weeks of good listing time for me coming up.
-
06/26/2022 at 4:25 pm #96789
P.S. I think someone in this thread mentioned updating their store logo and pictures. I just did that for free too. I like the logo but I ran out of patience designing the border. Anyway, it’s better than what I had.
-
06/27/2022 at 3:14 pm #96805
@christiner – Yes, I was the one that added a banner and description.
For the logo, I had already had one designed years ago through fivrr.
For the banner, I put a blanket on the floor, staged several items on it lengthwise, and snapped a photo. When I uploaded the photo as a banner, I just had to adjust it for the cutoff top and bottom. I tried two different locations and arrangements to get the right look.
Then I just threw together a description. Nothing too fancy.

06/27/2022 at 8:26 am #96795
Wow, Christine, that’s a lot of listings! Well done!
3 for me. Still have contractors, still only have one car (no car in Texas is a terrible situation. No car when you live in a rural area is worse!) And in sewing costumes again. We have not one, or 2, but 3 shows coming up! Wishing everyone a great week.
-
06/27/2022 at 9:50 am #96799
Just a quick note to let you know. I am still around. However, I will be on a motorcycle trip to Alaska for the next month. So, all zeroes for that time.
Cheers!
-
06/27/2022 at 10:02 am #96800
24 new listings for me. Much more than I expected, I pulled out a batch of easy to list items and listed 14 on Saturday.
I’m leaving for vacation in an hour. Next week will be a zero for me.
Happy 4th of July to everyone!
-
06/27/2022 at 3:16 pm #96806
I listed one item.
My parents went back home, all our family events and celebrations are over, and I am now more available to start listing again. At least until our next vacation. Work will be a bit busy this week, but hopefully I will start up quickly.
-
06/28/2022 at 11:40 am #96817
ChristineR – you WON! Highest number this week! Go you!
Only 3 days left for the challenge. Final push folks! Let’s go let’s go let’s go! 😀
-
06/29/2022 at 1:32 pm #96827
Thanks! I thought this week would be better than I think it will turn out, but we’ll see. Sales are still darn slow for me.
-
07/01/2022 at 10:31 am #96838
New month – new Challenge number – new problems?
Despite multiple attempts, Imgur keeps giving me the message that it is “over capacity.” I’ve not heard of this before! So no picture today. 🙁
The new number for July is 4.
I did not finish my June challenge, but I sold something out of the stuff I listed, so I’m motivated to keep going. My July challenge is Inventory Check categories K & Q. Fortunately, these are my smaller categories, so there’s a good chance I’ll manage it this month. Yay! If I have time, I might even get to the F category that I skipped a couple months back.
Did you finish June? What’s your July challenge?
-
07/04/2022 at 2:52 pm #96856
-
-
07/01/2022 at 1:16 pm #96839
I failed at June’s challenge. I’ve been successful the months up to June, so maybe I deserve some slack. June was full of several family celebrations, master bedroom remodeling, and visitors.
Challenge #4 is “Try retail arbitrage, try a few online sales”. As mentioned previously, I set many of my goals to help me continue my eBay store, but also have a successful career at my part time job that is slowly increasing in hours.
-
07/04/2022 at 12:22 pm #96853
Listed 16 items. Happy 4th.
-
07/04/2022 at 1:44 pm #96855
I listed 21 items. Back on the board! My son is helping me with photography for a few weeks before he heads off to college.
-
07/04/2022 at 2:52 pm #96857
Happy 4th, y’all!
-
07/04/2022 at 5:28 pm #96860
I listed 13 items this week. It’s a start.
A month or two ago, a bunch of clothing I sent into Swap finally got listed. These are items from my neighbor that I am helping to sell on commission. I forgot to put it in my tally here, but 72 items were added. There is still inventory that hasn’t been listed yet.
-
07/05/2022 at 2:11 pm #96875
Zero new listings for me last week during my vacation. But it was worth it!
I didn’t finish my June challenge. I did list 19 clothing items, some of which I’d had in my death pile for many, many years. A few of those items have sold already. So I judge the challenge a success for me even though I didn’t complete it.
I was hoping pick #4 would be a my choice challenge so I could attempt to finish my clothing listing challenge from last month, but no luck with that. My challenge #4 is to write 10 listing descriptions in less than 1.5 hours and to do that four times this month. Fingers crossed!
-
07/05/2022 at 3:02 pm #96876
Congratulations on getting back to listing, JR. As a reward, you won the week! 😀 Great that you have listing help! Photography is my Kryptonite.
Add your 72 to last week’s total, Sharyn.
Welcome back, VT. Glad you had a good vacay. Good luck with your challenge.
Okay folks! Welcome to the first week of the 2nd half of the year. Remember that it’s July already and in six short weeks, folks will be going back to school. Start rummaging for all your BTS goodies and get those listings up!
-
07/06/2022 at 6:40 am #96879
Thanks, Amatino!
-
07/10/2022 at 8:36 pm #96932
27 items for me. Not ready yet for goals/challenges. I’m just kind of grabbing what is recent / in the way at this time.
-
07/10/2022 at 8:44 pm #96933
Only 10 new listings for me. I was still on vacation for part of the week and then recovering from vacation for a few days after that – lol.
Wishing everyone (and myself!) a productive week ahead.
-
07/10/2022 at 9:51 pm #96934
I listed 13 this week.
I bought something online towards my challenge at trying some retail arbitrage.
-
07/11/2022 at 6:14 am #96935
9 for me.

Hello everyone, I was offline for a bit while helping my mom with some things back home. I did get 18 listings up this past week however, listing books while at my mom’s.

Hello…I’m finally back. It was a BRUTAL move and we are still unpacking…it’s going to be weeks more before we get everything shipshape. Top of the order was to get my online biz set up, since I had to turn my shops off for more than two weeks. The upside is that I have the most fabulous shop for my inventory and it’s two-thirds organized…a place for everything and everything in its place. I’m very excited about it. Hours and hours of work went into it and hours more before it is done but it will be well worth it.
5 listings last week, and zero for all the weeks I didn’t report in. Hoping to get back to listing regularly again…..as things calm down. Fingers crossed!

Congrats, ChristineR, yet another win for you this week! Yay! Keep it up!
Good for you, Sharyn. Hope it works for you. I think RA depends a lot of what you buy. The most successful RA I ever had was NIB curtains. I paid a dollar for each pack, bought out about half of all the clearance stock, and sold most of them for about $14. Unfortunately, all my other RA attempts have been flops. Now I know to buy out the entire clearance stock! LOL
Actually, now that I think about it, I’ve had good luck with curtains whenever I list them. The trick, however, is to hang them for photos. For the NIB, I took a close up photo of the picture of the hanging curtain and used that as my main photo. For the old ones, I take down the curtains in my spare room and hang one panel there.
VL, photos or it doesn’t exist! 😉 We are so excited for you!
Our Full Dress Rehearsal is on Thursday and we had our 3rd and final sewing party on Sunday. Most of the Babes are now clothed, with the Advanced ladies just finishing off their final pieces. As I was sewing for one of the Babes who does not, my costume is still a WIP and I might not have it ready for Thursday, but I’m lucky that I have enough experience to rummage in the Costume Closet last minute and pull off whatever I throw together. That has saved my bacon a number of times! This time, though, I still have a full week until the Show and I’m further along than I ever was before, so I will probably be in a mostly complete costume in time. I’m also seriously considering voting myself out of dancing a couple numbers. It is a Student Showcase, after all, and I’m not a student. Now that the Babes are more confident in themselves, they don’t need me as much as they used to. Any of the Advanced Troupe numbers, there are so few of us that I will be missed, but the mass choreos won’t be affected by my absence. I dance in the back mostly, specifically to not draw attention. That reduces the number of costumes I must have. Phew! 😀
Here are the pantaloons we’ve worked on for 2 weeks (yes, even mine are finished!) Almost 5 yards of fabric in each pair, 2.5 yards PER LEG!

Great costumes. I was hand sewing trim on corsets for the Little Mermaid camp musical yesterday. I know just enough to be dangerous and I was quite slow.
I listed 53 items but a few were multiples. I’m listing like a mad woman when I get into the grove. Tearapeak really helps. I’m so grateful for that feature.
-
07/17/2022 at 7:24 pm #97011
Amatino, those pants are amazing! I’d love to see them in action. I imagine with all that fabric they really pouf out when you all twirl. Very cool!
I’m chalking up a shameful zero for new listings. We finally found and bought a smaller house so I’ve been working relentlessly on sorting, donating and throwing stuff away. I can’t wait to be finished so I can get back to my normal routines.
Wishing everyone a great week!

2. Last week was crazy but I should have done more, nonetheless.
-
07/18/2022 at 9:10 am #97015
I love those pantaloons! If I were fashionable, I’d totally wear those around town.
45 listings for me – glad to finally be back listing consistently this week.
I need to update my number for week 25 – I listed 17 that week. I forgot to report it.
-
07/18/2022 at 10:46 am #97016
Amatino – I’m always amazed at the work you do on these outfits. Your group looks great and well coordinated. I bet your classes are awesome!
Both of our Vintages, whether Treasures or Lacy, are going through moves. I’m sure it is quite the headache, but hopefully a time for organizing and downsizing that will help in the long run.
We have been in the same house for 17 years now, about as long as I’ve lived anywhere, and I hate to imagine the work we will need to do to downsize/cleanup so that we can move. Part of the issue is the accumulation of things, and part is the hoarding instincts of my husband. Last night, my husband started arguing with me about a pile leaning against the wall of boxes and window screens. I told him I do use the boxes, but we are saving those screens because you wouldn’t let me throw them out! Ha! (I was given permission to get rid of them).
Anyway, I listed 17 this week.
I finally listed some vintage porcelain that I had been putting off because of my concerns (a few years ago) of misrepresenting them or having to clean them out. I came up with strategies and just got them out there.
I did go to some stores to help along my challenge of retail arbitrage, but I pretty much struck out. I spent about $11 on a few discounted items just to say that I did. I think that I need to go during a change in the season when the old merchandise is on its way out. Either way, I have completed this month’s challenge however underwhelming it was.

Thanks for all the compliments, much appreciated! Still sewing like crazy and only 2 days until The Big Day, so things are a teeny bit chaotic! I have 4 costumes this year and, to save time, I’ve decided I’m going to pin belts into place and just work on bras/tops which are more of a fit fiasco if you get them wrong. The next show is on August 21st, so I will have time to finish up where necessary. I’m also seriously considering making myself a bra and skirt from scratch for the 4th costume which has not yet been started. Yep. Nobody has ever called me stupid, but crazy is very common!
It must be a year for moving. I went to help my daughter move in March, then VL moved, and now VT is moving. Anyone else planning a move soon? LOL. After all the work we’ve been doing on our house, I will hiss, spit, and scratch if anyone even suggests it! 😀
Well done, ChristineR, you chalked up yet another win for this week!
Wishing you all a great week, everyone!

58 listings. My goal was to get 100 listings up while my husband was out of town 4 days but since most of my death pile is clothing, I didn’t get near ambitious goal.
I have an exciting opportunity this afternoon. Recently I won 3 free one-on-one sessions with an Ebay selling consultant. The first one is today via Zoom. I won it on Ebay for Business Facebook page. I’m hoping to learn some good tricks beyond “Offer free shipping, offer free returns, put things on sale, send offers to likers.”
-
07/25/2022 at 10:00 am #97103
30 new listings for me. I’m content with that number, although I was hoping for 35. I’m still extremely busy with sorting, donating and packing in anticipation of moving.
However at this point we may or may not move – we’re still negotiating on resolving inspection issues. In the meantime the thought of moving so much stuff really got me gung-ho on reducing the amount of things I have. So either way it ends, it’s been a real motivator.
Wishing everyone a great week!
-
07/25/2022 at 11:36 am #97105
I listed 30 items. I did dig into some deathpile stuff, so I feel good about that.
@julie-b: I’m interested in knowing which consultant you will be speaking with. A few years ago, I took a free online class run by Kathy Terrill. The catch at the end of the class was membership in a group with a very expensive monthly fee where she offered a consultation or two and the ability to ask questions. Her thing, I think, was mostly to use social media to generate more sales. -
07/25/2022 at 1:41 pm #97108
Just 14 for me this week. I was volunteering and we have family in town.
We put almost everything back in the garage except at the plumbing problem area. Now all of my listed boxes are together and I have a little warehouse isle on a gorilla rack and bookshelf. My husband is not thrilled with the cardboard boxes and packing materials. I told him some of that just comes with the territory unfortunately. On the upside, I’m working on the piles. My kid is not in camp this week so not as temping to go to GW after drop off and buy anything new. I probably have about 40 boxes and bins of stuff to list here. It will be nice to see it further reduced.

Everyone is having a busy summer, it looks like, myself included. Good luck with your move VT, I feel your pain! Although we are STILL unpacking boxes, I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. We have the biggest yard I’ve ever had, with much to do there, as well. I planted over 40 bulbs and got the gazebo staged and looking lovely, so now all we need is to find a garden bench and that area will be set. There’s some painting to be done inside the house, before certain areas can be set up. The previous owner used charcoal gray as an accent point in several areas and it’s too dark for us, so we’re going to paint a dusty aqua/teal instead.
My brother came for a week last week, from Colorado, to help with the unpacking and he and I also spent several days over at my dad’s house. He’s 89 and looking to move into assisted living so it’s time to start helping him unload his stuff. This is both good and bad. He’s a packrat and he also had a lucrative hobby in the 90s selling vintage magazines, which he kept stored in his bomb shelter. You read that right. That tells you the age of his house. My brother also sells on Ebay and he’s a fantastic scavenger and he kept digging out things from very obscure places. He found some boxes of old coins, a very racy Marilyn Monroe tray, and lots of other things. We also helped them get things out of the attic and I scored over a dozen boxes of very old mason jars. We found a suitcase that was my grandpa’s, and it must have been from when his desk was cleaned out because it was filled with a strange variety of things, like a copious amount of chapsticks and loose unused bandaids, but also some great belt buckles with turquoise, and some unusual jewelry and ephemera. We even found valentines that my dad received in the 1940s! It was really fun, but truly the last thing I needed was to bring home yet more stuff to list, as my death pile is EPIC. Impossible to resist though. My brother mailed four boxes home and also did an additional carry-on bag, so he got lots of great stuff too.
I am pleased to announce 40 listings for last week. The drought is over! Hopefully to stay!
-
07/26/2022 at 10:48 am #97135
Wow, VL. What an experience! Glad you got some great stuff. I know your Dad has been going through some rough times, is this move going to be good for him! And yet another move in our little miniverse! LOL.
Sending best wishes for his move and your continued unpacking and sorting.

Notes from my free Ebay consultation
The person I zoomed with was named Pierce. He had a lot of charts and stats regarding my account which were interesting. The percentage of stale listings was pretty surprising as was the percentage of my sales that come from mobile vs desktop.
@Sharyn This guy also stressed promoting my store & listings through various social media avenues. It wasn’t something I ever thought much about before but it gave me food for thought and I might try it with some of my higher priced vintage pieces.Something I learned years ago from more than one YouTube reseller which now turns out to have been wrong or maybe it was once correct but now is obsolete is the terms in the description section are not searchable. Therefore, I can quit copying and pasting my ebay titles into the description section.
-
07/26/2022 at 10:53 am #97136
Thanks for sharing the info, Julie! I’d love to know how to pull up those stats! Did Pierce say anything about what to do with stale listings? Also, did he mention any pros and cons of mobile vs desktop! And what social media did he suggest?
Huh! I’ve also heard that pasting titles into the description was the way to go, but I stopped doing it a while ago when I moved to using the bullet system instead of writing a novel. I’ve heard that more sales go through mobile than desktop, and I’ve noticed that the descriptions are very hard to find on mobile.
Are the next 2 sessions follow up sessions? As in you do the suggested “homework” from this session and they tell you how much it makes changes to your store?

07/26/2022 at 10:44 am #97132
Wow, this is a first! Both of the two highest numbers listed were logged by last year’s winners, so they’re blued out with an honorable mention. And the next highest number was a tie between Sharyn and VT! Well done on a great week with some terrific numbers, everyone!
My Show went both terrific and terrible! Terrific, because we had a great show and everyone had a marvelous time. Terrible because I managed to flub my solo so badly that an audience member came up to me afterwards and told me that it was obvious that I’d messed up and they could see my humiliation! (Seriously? He thought that was a good thing to tell me?) But… he was somewhat right. I spent an extraordinary amount of time with my veil like this:
Practically the only resemblance between what I did and the original choreography was the music! 😀
However, I was frustrated, but not humiliated. I still completed the entire choreography, the audience got a chuckle, it looked interesting – instead of pretty and ethereal, but hey, interesting is still good, right? I’m way too old and experienced at public performances to be humiliated any more. I’ve made so many errors and had so many things go wrong, as I’ve been performing since I was 5 years old, both in dance and theater. I just shrug it off as another fun event! LOL
On the home front, we’re still working on the extension. On Saturday we started at 6:30AM, had a break mid-afternoon, then continued from 5PM until 9:30PM. Yesterday we worked until nearly 10PM. I’m SO over this right now! Hint, if you’re considering renovations: don’t save money on contractors, fire them, and have to do the work yourself! It will be great when it’s done, though. Only 15 weeks to wait for windows! Yay?
-
07/26/2022 at 12:00 pm #97139
@Julie thanks for the info. eBay has been sending prompts for me to share certain listings. There seems no rhyme or reason to which they choose but I just comply (Pinterest).
Did he say or imply what effect stale listings have on sales?
-
08/01/2022 at 8:53 am #97183
He did not say anything about how stale listings effect sales but the mere fact that he brought it up makes me think there must be some kind of effect, but who knows. I have been ignoring my oldest listings for some time now so it has spurred me to end and sell similar some of my listings that have been up for well over a year.

46 listings this week.
I’m trying to hit the ground running this week. I’ve made myself a To Do list this morning and hopefully I’ll accomplish everything on it for once. Have a great week everyone!
-
08/01/2022 at 10:12 am #97185
Only 8 new listings for me.
We favorably resolved our house inspection issues, so our closing and move is back on!
Our house guest left this morning and now I’ll be back in full swing (aka: panic mode) – sorting, donating, packing and cleaning. Today I’ll start moving boxes of eBay inventory from my basement up to my garage to get a jump on moving next week.
Wishing everyone a wonderful week!
-
08/01/2022 at 1:12 pm #97189
Fell off the wagon with only 4 listings. Thanks @Julie for responding.
-
08/01/2022 at 5:33 pm #97198
I listed 35 items this week.
Most of them were from a huge number of polo shirts (over 100 maybe) that my parents’ neighbor gave to me. The story is that the wife would just buy shirts for her husband. Shirts upon shirts. He might have worn them once or twice but had so many that they just piled up. I guess she needed more room to buy him more shirts, so I got them.

New month, new challenge!
-
08/01/2022 at 7:57 pm #97205
Here’s my challenge #6: 6. Put together BOLO list, items not requiring much testing, easy to pack, decent ROI.
Should be pretty easy. Just put together a list. If I do something with it, who knows?
-
08/02/2022 at 11:48 am #97216
28 listings for me last week. Boy July flew by in a flash. Hoping for a very productive August ahead.
I’m doing a wonderful outdoor show the end of the month and starting to prep for it. I had been doing it for many years and then they couldn’t have it because of the pandemic, so it will be the first time since 2019 and I am very excited. True collectors come to this event….they are there with flashlights at 5am while we are setting up! I always sell great higher ticket items and the really quirky stuff. It’s a WHOLE lot of fun, even though we have to leave at 4am to drive there! It’s in Oregon City, downtown, and they shut down Main Street for the event so our booths are on the street.
Hope everyone has a great week…good luck with the move VT, hope it is easier than ours!
-
08/02/2022 at 12:36 pm #97218
Spreadsheet updated. Well done, Sharyn, a good win this week. JB had an Honorable Mention, being last year’s winner. Link to spreadsheet added, as I haven’t given the link in a while.
Good news on the resolution and good luck on the move, VT.
Sharyn, that’s funny. Himself’s mother seems to have a similar problem, she’s constantly buying him shirts! Fortunately he’s really hard on his clothes, so although she’s still outpacing him, it’s barely! I’m really looking forward to how you fare with your #6 challenge. You’ve set some restrictive parameters there, I think. I shan’t ask you to share your BOLO, but I would love to know how many you come up with!
My #6 is Challenger’s Choice. I choose to continue with any of the months I missed and see if I can catch up.
Wow, VL, that sounds like fantastic fun! Wish I could be there, but I will add it to my bucket list!
We finally have a week where the temps are barely going to hit triple digits. Most of the week is only in the high 90s, so it’s cooler than it has been for weeks! We’re desperate for rain, but the cooler temps mean that more work can be done outdoors. I have some furniture that needs refurb, but I may wait for the thermometer to lower another 10 degrees before I go that far outside! LOL. For now, it means I can spend some time sorting things on my deck.
Wishing you all great listings!
-
08/03/2022 at 2:29 pm #97228
@Sharyn Finally (because the Seller Hub has a new section that *nagged* me, I got a Billboard up on my store front. Now it wants a Marketing Banner! I thought they were the same thing!! My mistake. Do you know the difference? So far my research has led me to how to make one, not what they’re for and best tips for creating one. I’m being lazy and asking, instead of spending more time on research, tbh! 😉
-
08/03/2022 at 9:39 pm #97230
I googled “what is the marketing banner in ebay”. I found the following:
Create a clickable marketing banner
You can add a clickable marketing banner to your storefront to showcase a listing or store category. Buyers can then select the banner to browse the listing or category.
Here’s how to create a clickable marketing banner:
- Select the Store tab in Seller Hub.
- In the Start using a Marketing Banner section, select Add a banner.
- Under Choose a banner destination, select Store category or Listing.
- Choose the Category dropdown, or Select a listing and select your category or listing.
- Select Add a banner image to upload your image.
- Enter a title and description to display on your banner.
- Select Save banner.
Your storefront starts with “Featured categories”, and each category has a picture. Did you select those pictures? From the above description, that is what the marketing banner seems to be.
-
08/03/2022 at 9:40 pm #97231
Awesome billboard or whatever it is called BTW!

-
08/04/2022 at 1:55 pm #97233
Thanks! It’s just a photo of my B&M booth. I used it as I take a photo of my booth every time I do a reset, and it was available. I didn’t expect it to work so well! LOL
Yep, that’s pretty much what I found when I googled it, but it doesn’t really tell you how it works, does it? I mean, if you make a clickable banner, and somebody clicks on it and buys the item/s in the banner, does it auto-repopulate? Do I have to remake the banner? Information is pretty scarce. 🙁
Yes, the nagging block said I had to create Featured Categories too, so I did. I chose the categories that, going forward, I would LIKE to keep selling in. I’m learning what I like to sell and what I am not crazy about. To date I’ve been very eclectic, with a thrift-store-esque collection. However, some stuff is a pain to photograph and list, some is a pain to ship, and some items have painful buyers. I’d like to narrow down my fields to stuff that is easy to find, easy to photograph and list, easy to store, and has minimum returns and hassles. If those items could have a huge ROI as well, wouldn’t that be the Holy Grail! 😀
-
08/04/2022 at 2:08 pm #97234
Hence my challenge this month 🙂
-
-
08/08/2022 at 10:30 am #97253
I listed 24 items this past week.
I didn’t do anything towards my challenge. I will be busy the next week or two.
-
08/08/2022 at 11:14 am #97254
I listed 15 new items last week. I’m pretty happy about that number considering how much work I also did on our current house to get it ready for listing photos.
I looked up my challenge for August, but I’m not going to get to it this month. We’re closing on the new house today and we move on Friday. EBay is going to be about just getting my orders out for the foreseeable future.
Thanks VL for the good wishes on moving! As you are recently painfully aware it’s not easy to move and it’s even harder when there’s also eBay inventory in the mix.
Wishing everyone a great week ahead!
-
08/08/2022 at 3:31 pm #97256
15 listings for me too this week. It seems every time I try to have a really productive week, something happens that derails my plans. >:(
-
08/08/2022 at 7:10 pm #97258
25 listings for me last week. I didn’t do anything towards my challenge. I was just happy to hit my goal!
-
08/09/2022 at 9:28 am #97259
Hello, lovelies!
Indeed, this year is zooming by! We have already gotten through our first week of August and there are only 19 weeks until Christmas. It’s time to start getting your Halloween stuff together. Would you believe I sold a Halloween projector last week? Yep, some folks sure do start getting ready early! I’m almost out of projectors now, though. That was my 2nd best RA purchase!
VL gets honorary for most listings, but Sharyn takes the win!
Wishing you all a fantastic week!
-
08/09/2022 at 11:42 am #97260
Zero for me. I’m in Florida returning from vacation.
I hope that I didn’t miss the thrifts putting out their Halloween. I don’t have much in my inventory because it sold super well last year. On a personal note it’s still my favorite holiday even though the kids are grown and we are in the right neighborhood but not the right street for trick or treaters. I’m hoping some of my older neighbors move on (but not pass on!).
Good luck with your move and house sale VT.
I stopped short of making featured categories since the pics are in my phone and hard to find. I guess I could just pull screenshots from the web but it was taking longer than I had. My banner is super simple but better than what was there before. The logo is cool and was easy. It looks better on mobile.
-
08/09/2022 at 7:34 pm #97261
I am finally home from the land of the midnight sun and getting back in the game. Last week I listed ten items.
-
08/15/2022 at 10:10 am #97283
18 listings.
I’ve been forcing myself to get all of the items listed that are currently hanging on a clothes rack. It is on my monthly challenge list although I no longer know which month. Some of the items have been hanging there for over a year because there is an issue with the item that I need to fix and I just keep putting it off over and over again. It’s slow going. I may end up donating some of it and trying to sell the rest as is. I’m tired of looking at most of it.
-
08/15/2022 at 11:06 am #97289
A big fat zero listings for me last week. I’m not too upset though. Last week we moved and I’m lucky to have survived it with my sanity intact – lol!
I’m hoping but not hopeful (if that makes sense, I’m so exhausted I can’t really tell) that I get some listings up this week.
Wishing everyone a productive and lucrative week ahead!
-
08/15/2022 at 11:17 am #97292
Zero for me. Covid finally got me.
-
08/15/2022 at 1:10 pm #97300
17 for me this week. As I started listing sales began picking up. Go figure….
Have a great week!

08/15/2022 at 9:46 pm #97308
None for me. Very busy this week.
-
08/16/2022 at 12:05 am #97310
35 listings for me last week. Very mindful of how fast this summer is going and trying to get on top of things….if possible. Life seems to throw curveballs when I say things like this so I hope I didn’t jinx myself!
Christine, sorry about getting covid, hope your symptoms are mild and quickly over.
-
08/16/2022 at 11:03 am #97322
ChristineR, sorry you got COVID! Hope it is mild. Checked out your store on mobile and PC and it looks great. Well done!
With you there, JB. I’ve been doing a massive sort of my old stuff. I’ve been moving tons of stuff to the Booth, and seriously considering whether or not I want to bother with listing what’s left. If it’s a pain to list or it needs more work than simple spit and polish, and it’s not a high dollar item, I’m letting it go. I watched a YT vid the other day where a carpenter made a table. When he priced it, he said he was hoping for $150 an hour, but he ended up dropping his price to $50 an hour. When I worked out how much I make for the amount of time I put in, it’s less than minimum wage. I figured I need to start respecting my time more!
Glad you got moved, VT. Give yourself a little time to get organized, moving is a huge stress. You’ll be back in the game soon.
So jealous of your visit, UtahBill. Alaska is on my bucket list!
VL, you’ve just moved too. It’s surprising how long it takes to get settled after a move. You’ll get back into the groove, it just takes a while.
Spreadsheet updated. While both VL and JB got honorable mentions, UtahBill grabbed the win this week.
Wishing you all much fun in these dog days of summer.

I’m going out of town. So I thought I would post early for a change.
This week I listed 13 items. I will be in a new area this next week and I am hoping to find a few items while vacationing.
-
08/22/2022 at 2:13 am #97352
15 for me last week. I was hoping for more but I had a lot of other things going on. I don’t think life is going to slow down anytime soon.
-
08/22/2022 at 7:53 am #97358
Just 4 listings for me last week. But I’m finally getting close to finishing all the unpacking, organizing and putting stuff away in my new smaller house. I’m going to have a better listing week this week.
ChristineR: I was sorry to hear you got Covid. I hope you had a very mild case and are now fully recovered.
Wishing everyone a great week!

ABL = Always be listing!!!
Except when you are on vacation, as I have been these past two weeks. Put me down for another zero.
We did the drive down the coast in CA. Flew into San Francisco and out of Los Angeles. I had lived in LA in the late 80s / early 90s, so I had done the drive twice before, but my kids had never been and my husband had only been in CA for business trips.
My daughter got a cold and shared it with her mother. I tested myself, and I am negative for COVID. This is the first time I’ve been sick in the past 2 1/2 years because of all the masking/social distancing.
Sounds like many people here are in transition; either moving, recovering, vacationing, and so forth. Good luck with everyone’s …ing for the rest of the summer, and hopefully we can all move onto the listing part again in the new section that Ryanne created for us!!
(@Amatino – I think we are supposed to be in #3 already?)

No listings for me this week. I’ve been working off-eBay this whole week, going flat out with my husband’s business and the property accounts for which I do accounting. And… I had another Show on. Usually I share photos, but this time, I am going to share one video. Apologies that it’s a bit out of focus sometimes, it was taken and shared by an audience member, but it’s mostly visible. Doesn’t look quite so out of focus on a phone.
@Sharyn, decided to change to thirds instead of quarters. We’re not posting quite as much as we used to, so the threads are shorter. Will move to a new thread next month. -

34 listings
I had some great scores the last week and a half which motivates me to keep listing! While in a nearby town I drove by a new to me thrift store this weekend with tons of people in the parking lot. I stopped by on my way out of town to see what the big deal was. They were having a $10 bag sale and the bags were garbage bags! I ended up filling two bags, 69 items total which came to about 29 cents an item. I only have 4 items left to list from the haul (several are multi-quantity listings or I’m lotting up similar items).

Better from Covid but not feeling super energetic or enthused about listing. I only listed one item, the guidebook from my vacation. Need to get going for sure to catch the better season.

Spreadsheet updated. Both JB and VL get honorable mentions again, but UtahBill logged yet another win! Still 19 weeks to go, so anyone could win this year!
JB, what a great haul! Congrats, both on the deal and on getting so much of it listed already! That’s the ticket!
Have a great week, everyone!

I finally got back to listing Friday and listed 18 items this week. As I wrote on my numbers post, I really need to kick myself into gear this coming week. I don’t normally watch tv but started a long series while sick with Covid and I’m almost done. Confessing that it’s been a distraction. Have a great week everyone.

34 new listings for me. I finally finished putting everything away in my new house on Thursday and I’m so relieved to be finished.
Our old house sold in 6 days so now I need to get every last thing moved out of there. We also have house guests arriving tomorrow but after they leave I’m hoping to resume life as normal.
Wishing everyone a wonderful and profitable week!

I listed 29 items last week. They were ALL clothing on commission for my neighbor. I am desperately trying to get through what I have so that I can get more.
He asked me to help sort out more clothing so that he can get to stuff underneath. Yes, it is that bad. I spent about 3 hours during the weekend sorting, and I have about 8 or so more boxes for whenever I can get through the stuff already at my house. There is still more clothing in the room including a walk-in closet full of vintage stuff. This is closer to what I am interested in, but it is packed!
He is currently looking for a house in an active adult community, and he assures me that he would buy before he sells. However, I have to get the stuff out of there before he can put it on the market. Ugh! It will all depend on the timing. I may do a MaxSold auction if I can’t get to it all in time.

@Amatino –
Almost forgot. I watched your dance video that you posted last week. It is awesome! What a nice thing that you teach and organize! I’m pretty sure I could pick you out from the group.
Older photos that you have posted usually have more women. Was your class smaller this time, or do not all of the students want to participate?

I listed 4 last week. Finally got my kid off to college.

53 listings. There’s nothing like mild panic over impending expenses to motivate one to list.
Everyone in the comments above sound so busy! Christine I’m proud of you for getting anything listed while you’ve been battling Covid! I hope you recover 100% soon.

@Julie thanks but I didn’t get anything done until after testing negative. Then I still had a few days of lazing around. But now I’ve had a couple days of decent listing. My sales are still poor, but this week should be good for listing. I too need to pay for some things so I’m hoping sales pick up soon.

I was out of town all last week. I had a great time, but I have to log the dreaded goose egg. 0

I have a question. We decided that multiple items in one listing was counted as one. So, if you have 10 identical widgets that put up in one listing, it only counts as one.
What happens if you list several things in one listing, but they are different and photos have to be taken of each one? For instance, I have six cashmere scarves from Scotland all in one listing, but they are different colors:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/185556223532
I only counted it as one, but shouldn’t I count it as six? I would then add five to my count, which would bring it up to 34. Yes? No?

JB got an honorable mention as last year’s winner, so VT took the trophy this week, well done!
Sharyn, firstly, thanks for the compliments. I love what I do with the dancers, it’s definitely “me time” even if there’s a lot of work involved. If there was another teacher in the area, I’d probably join the class and quit teaching! LOL. Maybe. I was in the front row in the first dance and in the back for the 2nd one. As to your questions: yes, I have fewer dancers this year, some folks moved away from the area, my youngest dancer went away to college, and there are a couple that are out with medical or family issues. And yes, kinda, to the 2nd question. I had a couple folks who were unable to attend due to being away at family functions.
Now on to your listing question: when I posed this to the group originally (waaaay back when) I was told that even if I was listing variations, which I considered to be hard work because they all needed their own photos etc., it is still one listing. However, if you click Sell Similar, which is less work than doing a variation IMHO, it counts as an extra listing. I understand the frustration, I felt it as well when I posted my question.
I think the best response is for you to decide what counts as one vs six. Only you are aware of how much extra work you put in to create those variations. Some variations are dead easy, some are harder than creating a separate listing. So for the easy multiples, count it as one. For the ones that are hard work, count each item listed. There’s no Listing Police here, we’re not going to knock down anyone’s door and demand an audit. (Non-members reading this: Obviously, if you’re claiming huge numbers and we happen to find your store and it doesn’t match, someone’s going to notice and call you on it. Don’t join and fudge your numbers!) 🙂
Hope that helps.
