A Chromebook won’t connect to the Dymo. Someone mentioned that on the forum before, so I tried it with mine. No go!
Too bad, I love mine although it told me that software updates are expiring in June. Apparently, they won’t continue updating the machine forever.
Finally back from the auction. Not my favorite one, but I did decently well.
From what I’ve seen previously on the forum, the person with the code has to order the supplies.
@Antarestar – I know you won’t do anything nefarious with my information! But, what we say here is open to anyone on the web even if they don’t sign up with the forum. I’ve created a “junk” email address: sharynjunk@yahoo.com.Go ahead and send me an email with a message (anything really). AFTER you send me the email, post here with what you sent. No one can post that with your username, so I will know it is you. After that, we can exchange any information in privacy.
Thanks so much!
I am heading out to an auction and will be back later in the afternoon.
Do I create a junk email address? Can Jay and Ryanne connect us “behind the scenes”?
I would have to pay you the $25 plus any overage through PayPal and give you my order and address. Then you would order what I’ve requested and change the shipping address to my home.
Would that work? Just not sure how to exchange information privately.
Thanks!
Yes! How do I contact you?
NikeGuy’s post (forum has some glitches and posts sometimes disappear):
Hi Jay!
I like to think we are similar in the fact that we buy undervalued stuff that we can sell for at it’s true value. I tried your way for a couple of years but found it hard to scale and some of the storage/testing/etc was rough. It also seems like our sources are very different. In my area auctions and estate sales are so crowded that thing a sell for crazy high prices. It’s possible I never found the great ones and while I could still make something work at each one it didn’t seem like a great use of time.
At one time I had 30 successful private labels but they have almost all died off one at a time and it’s such spiritless work that I didn’t put in the effort to continue finding new products.
Cigs for outlet shoes vary wildly by brand. Most nikes I buy are somewhere between 25-60 and vans and adidas are 10-22.50. The margins are the same % usually but obviously higher dollar on the Nike’s. I need to buy about 60 shoes a week but am aiming for 100 every time I go out. I live about 30 minutes away from 2 outlet malls and within an hour and a half is about 5. It grows exponentially if I’m willing to make a day of it.
No credit card float. While my inventory is different my lifestyle looks similar to yours. We live simply and have saved most all of the income we have made. It’s very easy to just reinvest profits as my wife and I both have full time jobs that already provide more than we need.
Also small correction on the blackjack. It’s really not gambling. Blackjack is a beatable game when using a count. It’s as easy as plus one and minus one then dividing by the remaining decks. The skill part of counting blackjack is being able to get your money on the table. This may make me sound like I’m a kook but I promise I’m not.
You did hit on my personality though. It’s hard for me to do one thing for too long. Once I get bored and it feels like work it’s hard for me to continue.
I enjoy creating profit and really enjoy selling shoes for the streamlined process. I find it fun to source. I can list the shoes on goat and StockX (two apps for selling shoes) by just entering their sku and size and hitting confirm, no pictures needed. I also list on eBay but goat and StockX take smaller fees for shoes under 100. (Fee structure is similar but they give you a prepaid label so you essentially ship for free and they are the middle man so you never have to worry about returns or customer interactions. All for their 9.5% fee) eBay currently doesn’t charge fees for shoes over 100 and is better at selling commodity vans so I still use them but it’s definitely more work listing and shipping.
I can replace my income at 10 shoes per day sold but want to go to 20 in order to cover extra costs and what I expect to be a reduced average profit as the vans are easier to scale but lower profit generally. I have thought about leaving my job for the last 3-4 years and think this might be the year. There is also the risk of being banned by the retailers which sometimes happens but I stay within purchase limits so I’m not overly concerned at this time.

Yes, looks like a metal incense burner shaped like an acorn. Bronze color (not necessarily bronze). Looks like the size to hold a cone, but I can’t tell whether the bottom is flat or not. Does it have any indents inside to hold a cone?
Definitely call eBay up. Just be professional and explain what happened. Say that after the listing was taken down, you searched for a recall notice and didn’t find one. You are sorry that you unknowingly listed a recalled item, but you aren’t sure how you would have known. It seems excessive for them to punish you given what you’ve said.
I didn’t have this issue, but I did call them recently because I was being removed from TRS due to really minor issues. They did fix it for me.
02/18/2020 at 9:15 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 450: Chatting with Troy about Other Jobs, Cross Posting, Numbers, Hard Goods! #74091From what I understand, the home office deduction has to be completely used for the business and not for personal reasons. I use my office for both, so it doesn’t help me.
However, since I use a large part of my home for inventory storage, I can deduct a portion of my utilities. Gas keeps my inventory at room temperature during the winter, electric during the summer plus running my computer, washer & dryer for clothes I sell, dishwasher for the dishes I wash, and then there’s my cable costs for internet, and so on. I calculate the square footage that my inventory takes up and divide that by the full size of my home, and I use that to proportion out my utility bills.
Some eBay myths are conspiracy theories, some are totally false, and a few are true. eBay does have an algorithm that determines the selection and order of items for a given search. It apparently uses a number of factors, but an active account is definitely one of them. There was a talk on You Tube from several years ago where an eBay manager discussed the algorithm in high level terms. Maybe someone will post it as I didn’t save the link.
We do have some whiskey here in the house, but my preference is red wine.

He brings home samples, and he can go to his company store and get $80 of product every two months. He usually sends an email to the store manager that allows me to go and spend his free goods.
This was great for me until I stopped working in an office about five years ago. I stopped putting on makeup because I don’t see that many people during the day. We still use the hair products, suntan lotion, soap, and so forth.
I can’t sell the stuff on eBay because it is against their policy and ex-employees have lost their job because of it. I imagine that there is some guy or gal who checks my store every once in a while to make sure I’m not selling his stuff. I’m very careful about not buying cosmetic stuff for resale.
On Something Fantastic’s original post, I think people don’t always respond because they don’t want to clog up the forum with short comments like “thanks” “great job” and so forth. There’s been a few of my posts in the “what is this” section where no one ever responded. I think no one could answer my question and they didn’t want to say “sorry, can’t help you”.
Very cool print, and nice low number. Unless the artist is well known, signatures don’t always mean that much. You can just list it as a signed & numbered print.
It almost looks like “Michael & Nephew” or the first name could be Michal. No good way to tell. There are a few websites out there (you’ll have to google it; I didn’t save any links) where you can put in a few things about the signature and it will spit out possibilities.
02/17/2020 at 4:42 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 450: Chatting with Troy about Other Jobs, Cross Posting, Numbers, Hard Goods! #74059If you submit something & make an edit right away, your post may disappear. You have to wait about a minute before making an edit. It’s a known glitch.
Another possibility is when your login session expires before you submit something. Your post won’t go through, and your information is lost. Not sure if it is called a “login session”, but you have to re-login every day or two.
I’ve run into both issues.
02/17/2020 at 11:45 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 450: Chatting with Troy about Other Jobs, Cross Posting, Numbers, Hard Goods! #74045My current policy is not to sell clothes unless they are vintage or have higher value like outerwear. On the other hand, my parents’ downsizing friends like to give me the clothes they don’t want anymore. Who am I to turn away something for free? The problem is that I really don’t want to list them myself. I used to send in my more modern clothing to Swap.com, but they tightened up their inspection process, greatly reduced the percentage they give to the seller, and restricted incoming packages because they couldn’t keep up.
Seems like they have opened incoming packages again, so I am going to send one in and see how it goes. I’ll list the few items that I pulled out because I found that they are vintage. I am donating anything that has the least bit of wear or stains. I am holding onto the winter stuff to send in later depending on how this one works out. Let’s see how it goes.
My parents will be bring more stuff when they visit in May. Ugh.
Week of Feb 9 – 15
* Total Items in Store: 1454 eBay, 34 Etsy
* Items Sold: 15 eBay
* Cost of Items Sold: $44.88 + $36.87 Commission
* Total Sales: $525.39 eBay
* Highest Price Sold: $140 Hand carved wood chess set
* Average Price Sold: $35
* Returns: 1
* Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $5
* Number of items listed this week: 21Decent week for me. The chess set was in inventory for over two years, so I was glad to see it sold. Perhaps I listed it too high at first because I had bought it for close to $40. I think it wasn’t the best of buys, but I did well enough. It was one of the few items I put on promotions.
I listed 21 items this week. Finally, I met my goal for once!
Funny, though, I have no green items to list. Nothing Irish either. I did list one large item for the January challenge.
02/14/2020 at 3:20 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Poker chips, Stuffed cat, Epiphone guitar, Boombox, 8-Track #73965Here I am trying not to be the first person to post, but I guess there is no way out.
Steve – I’m glad you were clarified which kitty was sold 😊. Did that actually happen coincidentally?
My biggest sale last week was a collection of 9 vintage airline playing cards, new and sealed. These were free to me from one of my parents’ downsizing friends. Many of these airlines are no longer in business. Sold for $55 to someone in the UK though the GSP.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/183901434617Someone asked on the forum about selling a Maxwell House mug recently, and I mentioned that I had a set listed. If I was superstitious, I would connect it with the sale about a week or so later. Or, maybe forum readers clicked on the link giving it a boost in activity? I paid less than $1 in an online auction, and the set of 6 sold for $29.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/183698946174A seller contacted me last week who was just very nice and wanted multiple items from my store. I guess I can be sweet-talked because I ended up giving her some good deals. It helped that she wanted some items that hadn’t had much action or I didn’t pay anything for. I would say that the most interesting item was this carved duck that I sold to her for $14. I had paid about $4 for it, but had been sitting in inventory for over a year.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/183722978435But, the best deal I gave her was these two t-shirts for $7 each. These were free to me from the same guy as the playing cards mentioned above:
