I remember seeing a video you posted with you in your belly dance group, maybe part of a parade. I thought you had long hair, but maybe that was a wig or something as part of what you were wearing?
Definitely a ship artifact in a museum with the park ranger showing it all off!!!
01/30/2020 at 11:41 am in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Glass ice bucket low ball cocktail set, Lineman belt #73490I’ve learned well enough how to package glass, but I don’t enjoy the packing because of the time it takes for stuff thats usually not all that profitable. I think with turntables, the higher profit margins would make for a more enjoyable experience with the shipping. Maybe I’ll try it some day.
My week was also bread and butter, but I can always come up with some interesting stories.
I had a few interesting commission sales. I learned about chintz, which is still pretty popular. This plate sold for $21.50.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/184048067313I was given some reams of fabric to sell. I had to estimate how much material was on each ream, and then break them down into reasonable lengths. I sold this vintage purple cotton patterned fabric in 3 yard pieces, and, for some reason, they all sold last week. After last sale, I realized I still had a bit over 3 yards left, so I copied the listing and sold the last one very quickly. Each 3-yard length cost about $11-12 (depending on if the buyer accepted an offer).
https://www.ebay.com/itm/184087346666From my radio auction purchase last year, I sold an RCA Victor tube radio for parts or repair. I paid less than $3 each, and this one sold for $27.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/184038924599Out of that radio lot, I had listed a Zenith Trans-Oceanic radio with an instruction manual and a small advertising brochure. A buyer just wanted the brochure. I asked him what he wanted to pay, and he said $15. I thought that was reasonable, so I created a separate listing for him. (Spoiler alert: I sold the radio this week for $100).
https://www.ebay.com/itm/184140683261Right before the holidays last year, I sold 3 listings of USAir tablespoons to one guy. He would pay for a listing, wait until I had printed a label, and then buy another. This time he bought two listings of 10 teaspoons at one time. These were all give to me by one of my parents’ downsizing friends.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/183970418873Well, then, you might want to call UPS or FedEx (whichever is closer), give them the dimensions and weight, and ask how much it would be for them to package it. Then, add that cost to the cost of the item. Either as a handling fee or roll it into the overall price. Include in the description that it will be professionally packaged and shipped.
I saw recently something about bulk shipping options on eBay, but you would have to look that up. I think that it was for items over 100 pounds, and I have no idea if your binnacle is within that limit.
By the way, it is very cool. What a great thing for someone’s nautical themed beach house! Or a museum even!
01/30/2020 at 10:13 am in reply to: Must wait 24 hours on GSP sale for invoice to be sent to buyer??? #73474I was thinking that as well. Towards the end of last year, I sold an old tube radio to Canada, and they flagged it at the GSP warehouse because the tubes have hazardous material in them. Canada has an import regulation against hazardous materials. I wonder if there is an issue with uranium glass.
@Amatino – You should consider local pickup on eBay, or try Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, or similar.
I do have an Indian food grinder that was something on my deathpile list LAST year. It weighs about 30 pounds, maybe more, and takes up some serious counter space. The box will need to be double-walled and pretty big, but first I need to test it.
So, I’m in. It has been sitting around WAY too long.
Here are Apple’s instructions on backing up an iPhone to the cloud or computer. It gives instructions for a PC using iTunes.
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203977If I were to backup using iCloud, I would need to pay for a subscription, which I’m not about to do.
Here is the link if you want to take a look:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/401452356520A year ago, I bought the iPhone 7 plus with 32 GB for about $310. I chose the model because Apple was still supporting the OS. I just had an update recently, so it is still supported. I take all my personal and eBay photos and videos on it. The 32 GB was just fine until recently, so I backed up the phone directly to my iMac, and then deleted a good portion to free up space. Another reason I chose the 7 plus is because it has an upgraded camera plus a second one for zooming.
The issue with the 7 plus is that it is one of the larger phones. I’m used to it now, but it really is too big for my hands.
I bought it on eBay and double-checked the seller’s ratings. I just checked, and the price has gone down. The cost is now about $240.
Anyway, that is what I have. Yes, it is more expensive, but I found the 5C just wasn’t taking good photos for me.
From something I saw last night on Facebook, eBay received a number of complaints about the notification of declined offers. They have now turned that off. I think that applies to the phone notifications, but I don’t know about the emails.
01/27/2020 at 5:47 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 447: 2 Month Free Shipping Experiment #73374Last week, I listened in on an eBay “workshop” through Facebook. This was from a lady that spoke at the eBay UpFront in November. I didn’t mention it on the forum because I didn’t know what her schtick was, i.e., what she was trying to sell. I found out on Sunday that she has a paid subscription Facebook page where she has “exclusive” content for $43/month or $430/year. Surprise, surprise, I didn’t bite.
I did find her videos to be pretty interesting. Most of the stuff I know from being active on here. I would say that the most useful information was on social media and how it could help a seller increase volume. She says that she is removing all her videos from the page on Thursday around 5PM. If someone has interest, they can go to the link below and ask to be added. Then watch either the three workshop videos (Day 1, 3, and 5) or just the Wednesday video about social media (Day 3).

The gift that keeps on giving! Yes, my address is the same. You are so sweet.
With the numbers I’ve been reporting so far this year, it is hard to imagine that I won the challenge in 2018!
I’ve been getting these declined offer notices for about two weeks or so. I didn’t get a sudden “batched” group of messages, so I must have been in some sort of beta thing. I don’t get one message per offer, so I assume that they are from buyers who actually chose to decline the offer rather than just let them expire.
In general, they have no use and are just annoying. I can’t imagine getting a bunch of them at once.
Zero for me.
I had distractions from personal stuff as well as my daughter. We drove her back to college today. I am so sad to see her go / elated to be rid of her 🤣. I’ll still have some personal stuff this week, but definitely more time for listing.
eBay did say that they added in other interested buyers (other than just watchers) to the offer list. Did you just click on the listing once or several times? I believe someone mentioned that an interested buyer would have to look at listing several times before an offer would be sent.
I hear you on the notification. When I get a counteroffer, I get a notification on my phone, but NO notification on the desktop. To accept the counteroffer, I have to go into eBay messages or click on “review all offers” or go to the notification on the phone app. It would be much easier if I could click on the notification bell on the desktop.
Talking about those desktop notifications, I noticed that the color changed to red. I haven’t had too many notifications since the color change, so I wonder if I will get different colors for different things (for example, a message vs a sale).
01/24/2020 at 11:39 am in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Snoopy WWI Flying Ace figure, Reel tapes #73245OH NO!! A typo that was carried into all of my listings! Thanks for catching that.
The company is called “1847 Rogers”. I believe that the company was started in 1847, so they put that in their name. There are MANY silver plate companies with “Roger” in the name. I assume because some were trying to get the name recognition and some because of different family members starting or expanding their own company (Rogers, Rogers & Sons, etc).
Anyway, I’m now in edit mode adding those last 100 years back to their name. I seem to be making more mistakes these days even though I reread through my listings (or, at least, the first one).
