I’ve heard of ‘Good Mythical Morning’ only because my kids used to watch it a few years ago. I think it was that show where one of the hosts (maybe not the guys in this clip) ate a ghost pepper to see what would happen. It did not go well for him.
Yes, these empty flatware boxes sell no matter what. I wasn’t surprised that it was the first thing to go.
I don’t really have the answer, but I did ask the question at the eBay UpFront NY in November. Their answer was that they were working with their vendors on how to deal with items that eBay currently allows, but aren’t allowed by the current managed payments. The rep told me that they weren’t aware of these restrictions when they first signed the contract.
Their answer was very vague, but the fact that the policy was being negotiated means that the restrictions might be lifted in the future. So, what happens if they aren’t able to come up with a solution? Even if someone uses PayPal for a purchase, I think they still go through eBay’s managed payments, so the restrictions would still be in place.
Either we wait and find out or try to find someone to ask. Maybe the eBay for Business group on Facebook?

01/23/2020 at 8:58 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Snoopy WWI Flying Ace figure, Reel tapes #73229Steve – I was given a large collection of Snoopy items. Several sold right away for decent money, but the rest is just sitting there. I guess your WWI flying ace just need to find the right collector.
This vintage Sandy Macnab whiskey bottle sold to someone with the last name of Macnab. Hum, wonder why they bought it? I bought it in an auction lot for about a quarter, and it sold for $24.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/184011456634I once bought a set of Rogers silver plate flatware in a pattern called First Love for $50. My mom was with me and convinced me to buy it. I sold the set together for $150, which was OK. She found another set of the same pattern for $25 and decided to buy it for me. This time I was smarter and broke it up. The first thing to sell was the box for $22 and then a set of iced tea spoons for $21. I’ve got plenty left.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/184128473448Sometimes at the auction, there will be boxes of stuff no one wants because the contents aren’t exciting. I bought a box of CDs, books, and whatnot for very little, but many ended up being worth something. This new, sealed CD set sold for $16, paid pennies.

01/22/2020 at 9:36 pm in reply to: How to list an item when you can’t find any info about it’s very existence? #73196Don’t list it for that little just because of an online auction. They didn’t find the right buyer in the limited amount of time that their auction ran for. List for $35, or more, with best offer.
01/22/2020 at 12:13 pm in reply to: How to list an item when you can’t find any info about it’s very existence? #73177I didn’t see it in my initial search results, but I clicked on images.
I think that you can sign in for a free account, and then you can see what it sold for.

Looks like the Microwise cooker was an “as seen on TV” item. Did you find this:
https://www.invaluable.com/auction-lot/microwise-cookware-system-78-c-6e348c184dCan’t say about the Maxwell house mugs. Perhaps the company sold them directly if you sent in labels, so they weren’t sold in stores. Might make them a bit more valuable. I’ve had a set listed for a year or so:

I’m actually having an interview tomorrow. It has been over five years since I was laid off due to the plant closing.
The job will be part time and is dependent on them winning a proposal. I will make a lot more money with a position in my field than what I do with eBay, and we could really use the cash.
Like Dan, I live in NJ, but I live in the central part which isn’t as expensive as his area closer to NY. Then again, it isn’t cheap. People in my town can commute via bus and train into NY in 1+ hour. Just being within commutable distance with public transportation makes an area more desirable, even though many of us wouldn’t consider a 1+ hour commute reasonable.
I would like the better social environment of a job. I know that really bothered me initially, but I’ve gotten used to it. Then again, if I don’t get the position, it isn’t a huge deal.
Week of Jan 12 – 18
* Total Items in Store: 1500 eBay, 34 Etsy
* Items Sold: 17 eBay
* Cost of Items Sold: $20.95 + $36.87 Commission
* Total Sales: $323.31 eBay
* Highest Price Sold: $40 Set 2 vintage Victorian style vases
* Average Price Sold: $19.02
* Returns: 0, but one of the vases damaged in shipping
* Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $0
* Number of items listed this week: 13My highest price sale was also the one that was damaged in shipping. Only one of the vases broke. I’ve made a partial refund to the buyer and then submitted a claim to the USPS.
I also had a situation where I sold two bangle bracelet watches. My son was checking out one of them and broke the spring. I’ve partially refunded the buyer and will be sending out the one that is in good condition.
Both of these issues were resolved outside of any eBay intervention, which is important because I don’t want to deal with getting any defects again. To avoid those defects, though, I refunded much more than needed in order to keep the customer happy. I’m due to get my TRS status back soon, and I don’t want to screw that up.
I listed 13 this week. I still have lots of distractions, but I’m happy with that number.
01/17/2020 at 2:58 pm in reply to: Travelling to Japan – any suggestions of what to buy for resale in the US #73013I’ve heard that kimonos sell well, but they don’t meet your criteria of small.
01/16/2020 at 3:27 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: 3 tier starburst server, 1000 slides, Headphone volume contr #73001Not a big week for sales, but I’ll pick out a few:
I purchased this vintage lamp with a ship lantern nightlight at a church rummage sale. Towards the end of the sale, you can buy a box of stuff for $5, so the lamp cost less than $1. The buyer offered $50 without the shade, so I accepted the offer and then immediately sent an invoice with the reduced shipping. Worked out well.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/183950317714Every year, my son needs a new suit, and I sell his lightly used one to help offset the cost. Boys suits and jackets sell well in general. I got $26 for the pants, jacket, and shirt.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/184079492679This copper pan with lid was from an auction lot of older pots & pans. I’m assuming that the buyer will use it for decor, not actual use. I paid about $2, and it sold for $21.

I didn’t know that other products of theirs also do well. I don’t run into their products much, but I’ll have to keep my eyes open!
01/14/2020 at 11:55 am in reply to: Etsy Seems to be trying It’s Own Version of the Global Shipping Program #72927I also received this email today. It looks similar to the eBay Send program, from what I see.
In looking through Etsy’s detailed description, the program is only good for packages under one pound. I do not have anything listed in Etsy that is under one pound, so it won’t help me. I wonder if they will ever expand it to the international first class shipping limit of four pounds?
“Sales tax collected” also includes tax I was collecting at the beginning of the year and remitting on my own before eBay took over. So, I do have a positive amount that is offset in the Expenses category “Sales Tax Submitted”.
Also in “Sales Tax Submitted” are a few days of taxes in November where eBay just started using PayPal to collect and remit the tax. They must have changed the way they reported the numbers, so it just looks out of place.
I can see the sales tax come in and go out in Go Daddy Bookkeeping. Go to the Business Income page and select “Sales Tax Collected” from the categories and press filter. I can see a positive and negative for each amount.
Well, except for one charge on Jan 10 that doesn’t seem to have a negative for it. Not sure about that.
