I did see this article and was going to post it here (I guess I forgot). People are making up stories, selling items as haunted, and getting a much higher price.
I did sell a “scary looking doll” once that was just an older doll that had significant wear due to age. It sold quickly when I can barely sell dolls that are in good condition.
So, yeh, certain stuff can sell high when you make up stories or they look scary or haunted. This article is pretty funny, though, in the stuff they bought and the things the seller said about them. I don’t think I finished it.
I wonder if the fabric was accidentally sewn inside out so that the logo is backwards. Sometimes patterns tell you to sew along the edge of two pieces pinned together, and then turn them inside out. If it is impressed like that, and the fabric is of decent quality, the person sewing might not have realized how it would end up.
Just a guess.
Funny. I took my daughter for a UVA visit just this past weekend. She loved the campus! Not sure if she is going to apply, though.
I have some typical sport team caps and shirts, and they don’t sell so fast.

The non-paying buyer has a day or so before eBay closes it out. I don’t add unpaid items into my sales number, so it won’t change anything.
I’ve heard that it is now possible to make an offer and give a expiration time. I haven’t done this myself recently, but someone posted about it on the forum. Could you have possibly put in a shorter expiration time than 48 hours (maybe accidentally)?

10/08/2018 at 9:58 pm in reply to: Trash Elf Twins Challenge 2018 Thread #3 From Week 31 August #49808I just got back from a short visit of two colleges in Virginia that my daughter wanted to check out.
I’m still working on my friend’s online auction, but I managed to list three items.
I was going to list a bunch more, but I ran into an issue with the phone app where the photos don’t have enough pixels. So, I had to open a listing on the computer, delete the photos, pull them down from the cloud, and then upload them for the second time. I’m hoping the bug is fixed, so I’m going to go back to the phone app and see if I can delete and re-upload there.
Oh, I almost forgot, the three were from death piles! It’s been a while since I’ve worked on old stuff.
10/05/2018 at 4:43 pm in reply to: Is there an Ebay glitch adding Best Offer to everything newly listed right now? #49669Yes, I’ve listed a few things today, and I’m seeing the issue with best offer.
I’m also seeing an issue has to do with listing through the iphone app. I upload the photos to the listing using the phone, and then finish on the computer. I get an error that the photos are too small (don’t have enough pixels) for a good listing. When I take those exact same photos and download them from the cloud, eBay has no problem with them. I was having this issue several weeks ago, but it was fixed.
Very frustrating.

My week was pretty pathetic, so I have nothing to post!

I can’t figure out any of the conundrums! I agree to sell everything separately.
There are plenty of examples where the same name is used in different industries. The only issue is when the same name could create confusion.
My dad used to work in a chain of shoe stores. They decided to create their own shoe brand called Feet First. Another shoe store called Feet First moved into a mall where one of my dad’s stores was located, so he made a complaint. The store had to change its name because my dad was there first (and I assume that his paperwork was in order). (Note: My dad’s company is no longer in business).
Here is a great article about typewriters and the recent interest in them:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2018/09/24/sales-are-booming-manhattan-typewriter-store-mostly-thanks-young-people-tom-hanks/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.6db0ee29df92I have about 7-8 typewriters, two manual and the rest electric, that I have to test and list. The pain with them is the ribbon. There are vendors on eBay and Amazon that sell the ribbons, but you have to order them, clean the machine up, and then test. It’s a good deal of work, but they do sell for good money.
10/03/2018 at 8:45 am in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Boots, Record Player, KC Chiefs hat, Pyrex, Canoe Paddle, Turntable #49514I brought the doll home, and it’s a Penny Brite doll with lots of clothing. From Wikipedia, Penny’s company, Deluxe Reading, sold toys in grocery stores at a discount from Barbie, but of similar quality.
Looking at eBay, the prices are good, but not as good as Barbie. I found a similar doll that sold for $35 with some clothing:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Deluxe-Reading-Penny-Brite-8-Doll-w-Clothes-Hat-Shoes-fit-Ideal-Pepper/253892386980?hash=item3b1d2a60a4:g:PrkAAOSwMdZbkvCGI’ve got more clothing than this listing. There were other dolls with an outfit or two that sold for around $18.
So, I’m thinking to break it into two lots. One would be the doll with clothing and the pair of shoes it came with. The other would be just clothing, maybe the nicer outfits, and a few other accessories.
The doll came in a 1963 Barbie case. I have some cases I bought at an auction, and they really don’t bring in much money. I see prices for this one between $6 and $12, so it’s going back into my friend’s online auction.
When I search through eBay, I see a few listings here and there that are “promoted”. I don’t a huge number of listings being promoted. A better strategy might be to run a sale.
I have been feeling the same. I went six days with one $11 sale, and I have a little under 1200 items in my store. The very few sales I’m getting are some of the lowest valued items I have.
For peace of mind, I called eBay and talked to a customer rep. I said that I was being overly paranoid and could she check my account. She said that nothing was wrong, and she went through all the items that she looked at.
So, do a few things that might help, but try not to go overboard. At least, that is what I’m trying to do.
