Great video, Steve. I have a vintage record player that I bought at an auction last week. I haven’t tested it yet, but I’m not sure I’ll be willing to fix it if it doesn’t work. It appears to be very old, maybe from the 50s.
I had a few interesting sales:
I bought this beautiful dress during the last day of a rummage sale, $5 per bag. I had my daughter pose in it for me. I thought maybe she would be interested in keeping it for prom, but she wouldn’t be caught dead in anything I scavenged. Anyway, I bought for about $1.50, sold for $63:

These were part of my deathpile as I had hoped to sell it through Swap.com, but they aren’t taking new inventory now. I have four golf skorts, all size 18, same brand, just different colors. This blue one sold for $20.

I once set up some listings for my sister, who works at a sign company. I did pick a business designation, but I can’t remember all the details. The format for listing was a bit different. I can’t remember if their address was on the listing, and she doesn’t have it set up any more, so I can’t check.
If they do all the selling for you, and all you have to do is the set up, I think this is a great value! Good luck!
I have heard other sellers on the forum who have done this sort of thing.
I don’t think there is a way to tell the difference. Since I relist items only after they’ve been around for a year or more, I can remember which items are older. Also, I relist in groups of 10 or more. So, when I’m counting up my new listings, I just skip when I come to a chunk of relists.
Otherwise, the relists are supposed to be brand new listings just like any other ones, so no way to filter them out.
I also write down the last few things I listed the previous week so that I know where to stop counting.
Your address is shown directly on the eBay listing? Or after the sale is made?
I mentioned a week or two ago about MaxSold, and my experience is similar to Nick and Almasty. Right now, I’m on the other side because I set up an auction for a friend who wanted to downsize. I made sure not to make the mistakes I see in their other auctions. I want that for when I go shopping, but not when someone else is buying!
Since August, I’ve been setting up an online auction for a friend using the MaxSold company that I’ve mentioned before. My friend and her husband are planning on selling their house next year, so they want to downsize their stuff before they put it on the market. I typically use MaxSold for sourcing, so this is the first time on the other side.
The auction finally went live a week ago, and it will end on Friday, Nov 2. The pickup day is Sunday.
So far, over 75% of the stuff has bids and the total is over $1500. MaxSold will take a 30% commission, and then my friend and I will split the proceeds about 50%. Most of the bidding should happen in the last day or even the last 15 minutes, and I’m hoping for a $6000 total!
Anyway, if you want to check it out:

I had an exceptional sourcing week. First, I went to the Goodwill to donate a few items. I always check the donation area for boxes. They also leave out some rejects like furniture, and this time I saw two boxes of tiles. They ended up being Armstrong commercial tiles, and I should get up to $30 per box.
On Friday, I went to an auction, and I filled up my minivan for $17.25! With this auction company, they will continue to combine boxes until they get a buyer (or they run out of items from that client). Each of my 3 bids (of $5 each) was because I saw a few items that I thought might be interesting. I figured the rest was probably junk, but I was wrong (mostly)!
Most of the items will sell from $10 to $25, but there were a few items that will be higher such as two 70s era manual typewriters (one is a Smith Corona), a record player that might be from the 50s or so (don’t know yet if it works), a vintage working electrical lamp with a glass shade and chimney, and quality doll house furniture depicting a doctor’s office (although, maybe that will be in the $25 range?).
There were several incomplete sets of dishes that ended up being decent brands. I originally thought that the Laura Ashley branded dishes would be the highest priced, but a Churchill brand is higher, and a Japanese stoneware brand is the best. There are tons of other stuff, and the COGS for each item comes to about $0.25!
There was a Crosley record player that I’m keeping for myself. I haven’t had a record player for over 25 years. My kids are getting a kick out of playing my husband’s and my old records. For me, though, I will need the player to test out some records that my parents gave me to sell.
Anyway, I have one other project I want to talk about, but I’ll do it in a second post.
Oh, and welcome to the forum!
My husband works for a cosmetic company. There have been employees in the past who were fired because they sold stuff they got from work. Because of this, I won’t sell any product from his company to sell on eBay no matter how I obtained it. In fact, I mostly stay away from cosmetics in general.
On the other hand, his office building was renovated and some measuring devices were being thrown out (like calipers and the such), so he brought those home for me. I did quite well with them, and it wasn’t an issue.
10/29/2018 at 5:57 pm in reply to: Trash Elf Twins Challenge 2018 Thread #3 From Week 31 August #50918I did pretty good this week. I listed 23 items and 14 were from death piles.
The death pile items were all the clothes I talked about last week. Most are being sold in bundles. So, if I had 10 items bundled in a listing, I only counted that as 1 death pile item.
My sales had been pretty bad, but the past week and so far this week, things are looking up.
My goal for listing this week is for items that need to be tested or repaired. Obviously, this means about 80% death pile because these are the items I put aside “for later”. It also means that I’ll probably not list many items, but I’ll be very happy to get them off my plate.
Also, my Aunt was on a game show about 50 years ago. I don’t remember the name of it, but it was a trivia sort of show. The contestants would win prizes for answering a number of questions correctly. Here’s the weird thing, though. One contestant would be the grand prize winner, but they had to chose to keep one prize. My aunt totally toasted the rest of the contestants, but she wanted to keep all her prizes. She passed on being the grand prize winner.
I had a T-Satt sort of day today. While packing, I first listened to Scavenger Life, then the other podcast where you and Veronica were interviewed, and finally I watched the Lingo episode!
If you have local pickup as the only option, I thought that there isn’t any time period that you have to meet. This might be different if it is an option along with other shipping options. Perhaps someone else can give you a better answer.
I can answer your second question, though. Once the buyer pays for the item, you can exchange contact information. I’ve done it many times with no problem. eBay doesn’t want you to give contact information before the buyer has paid because then you might try to sell it without paying fees.
