There is an option to go back to the old label page. You can select that and adjust the label sizing as you did before.
11/06/2018 at 7:48 pm in reply to: Emails from ebay – Eyes on your item – Your items are waiting in carts #51317When I get those messages, I go back to the previous previous week’s messages, and bring those prices back up. Then, I lower the prices for the current week’s items. I won’t lower the price of something that is on sale or something I listed very recently.
Yes, I have sold some, but not many.
It is most likely a print. I did find other prints with “Santa Fe”. I Googled “e i couse print santa fe” and then looked at images:

I did not find your exact print, but this was the closest (no Santa Fe, and this is an actual oil painting):
http://www.sothebys.com/en/auctions/ecatalogue/2018/american-art-n09867/lot.120.htmlI think that eBay doesn’t allow Nazi items to be sold in general. At least items with the Swastika.
About two years ago, I had a number of US military uniforms listed, and someone contacted me saying that they were interested in Nazi uniforms. He gave an email and told me to contact him outside of eBay if I had any. I didn’t contact him.
But your story is creepy.
No problem with the questions! I like talking about these things on the forum!
Sure, I’d like to do that as a secondary source of income, but I don’t think this type of situation will happen often.
My friend had some good stuff to sell. Her higher end stuff brought in bidders for the lower end stuff. She didn’t want MaxSold to run the auction because she would have had to get everything ready all at once. Her and her husband work full time, and they kept going through their stuff finding more. In addition, MaxSold leaves everything in place, but I boxed each lot up and moved it out of their way.
Of course, if MaxSold did the sale, they wouldn’t have been as meticulous as I was, and they wouldn’t have brought in as much money (I think). But, they would have charged her $795 plus 30%. For the seller run auction, they only charged the 30%. However, my friend is splitting her proceeds with me 50/50.
If I run an auction like this again, I would want to have the same situation where they are willing to go 50/50 or something close to that.
I actually do have an opportunity again. Friends of my parents are putting their NJ townhouse on the market soon, but they live about an hour from me. I don’t want to do that drive. They may only have a few weeks to sell everything if their buyer wants to close quickly. However, I will recommend them to MaxSold (when they are ready), and I will get a small commission for the referral.
So, it depends on the situation. I will run a more organized auction, I can be more meticulous in the listings, I can box everything and get it out of the way, etc. But, I’ll want more than the $795 that MaxSold charges.
I’m not going to go out of my way to make this a stream of income, but, if something comes my way, I’d certainly offer my services.
Another possibility is trying to get a job with MaxSold. I understand that the hours are very flexible (but I’m sure the pay is not that high). Possibly, I’ll think about doing that when my daughter goes off to college. It might be fun.
When I get a request for free shipping, I’ll ask for their zip code (or I don’t have to bother if it is first class or flat rate). I’ll calculate shipping and subtract it from their offer (or from the amount I’m willing to take) and say “This amount plus shipping will come to the $xx you offered”.
It takes a while to do, but I often get a sale that way.
11/05/2018 at 2:38 pm in reply to: Trash Elf Twins Challenge 2018 Thread #3 From Week 31 August #51229I listed 22 items this week. Four were deathpiles.
Two of the deathpile items were typewriters I bought last year and was too lazy to clean and list. I actually took about three days to clean and list those plus two others I bought recently and to test two electrical typewriters. (Note: I had other non-eBay things going on as well).
One of the manual typewriters has completely stuck keys, and my husband wants a chance to repair it himself (rather than me sell it for parts or repair). That one didn’t get listed (and will probably sit around for a long time). Also, one of the electrical ones didn’t work, so I listed the case, the instruction book, and the spool cover in separate listings.
The last two deathpile items were parts of an older printer. I wanted to test the printer, so I bought cheap ink, but the printer wouldn’t recognize it. The vendor sent me a new one, but the printer has been sitting around in the den, and I just never got to testing it. I listed the power cord and the instruction book, and I’m throwing away the rest of it (or, at least, bringing it to the recycling center).
Just making some lemonade.
And trying to be realistic about my time constraints.

Week of Oct 28 – Nov 3
* Total Items in Store: 1209 eBay, 11 Mercari
* Items Sold: 6 eBay
* Cost of Items Sold: $7.35 + $9.17 Commission
* Total Sales: $171.06 eBay + $0 Mercari + about $2100 from online auction
* Highest Price Sold: $90 Set 4 hand-turned brass table legs from the 1950s
* Average Price Sold: $28.51
* Returns: 0
* Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $0
* Number of items listed this week: 22This was another rather poor week on eBay for me. I’m usually doing the same as everyone else, but this week I seem to be lagging. On the other hand:
The online auction I set up for a friend through MaxSold finally finished up this weekend. We made around $6000 in sales! MaxSold gets a 30% commission, and my friend and I will split 50/50. So, I’ll end up with a little under $2100! The highest bid was a saxophone that sold for $751!! The next highest item was a trombone that went for $266. I have to wait until my friend gets paid, then she will write me a check.
The pickup was on Sunday. It went very smoothly, but I made one stupid mistake. I accidentally gave someone an Xbox 360 lot when they should have received a PC games lot. I guess I didn’t check against the lot numbers on my list. The thing is that the person who won the Xbox lot hadn’t shown up by the time I called it into MaxSold, and I think they probably had decided to not bother. Oh well, they got a refund because I’m too damn honest. The bid was only about $21, and my friend was not at all concerned about losing out on it. We did have one buyer who didn’t pay (their credit card didn’t work when MaxSold went to get payment), and one buyer (other than the Xbox guy) who didn’t show up (they won’t get their money back).
All-in-all, it was a great experience with a nice payback.
I had a sort of similar situation, but I was on the other side.
I used to have UPS as an option, but only a few buyers selected it. I now only offer USPS and FedEx. I did have to sign up for an account with UPS.
About a month ago, I was charged for a package that went from one town in CA to another, while I live on the opposite coast in NJ. I had to call UPS and get the charge removed. The customer rep said that an old label was scanned.
I always remove the old label; not necessarily for an accidental scan, but for privacy reasons. Especially if I grabbed the box from someone else. Any other UPC symbols I cover up with fragile, USPS Priority, or eBay stickers.
I was able to find the link for the lot:
https://maxsold.maxsold.com/auction/5280/item/art-supplies-a-503015/
I bid $45 for the lot (plus 10% premium), which included the 8 or so Pantone books and some other stuff. I broke down the total cost per item. The Pantone books were assigned a higher amount because they went for decent money.
This was a higher amount than I normally would bid at an auction, but I had looked up the sold prices ahead of time and knew that they did well.

I agree with everything you said, but one “perhaps I shall set higher goals and be better at planning in the New Year.”. The point is to set do-able goals, maybe low or just reasonable. When you meet those goals, you feel like you’ve accomplished something.
I set my goal this week to clean up and test some of the typewriters I have. I was able to do about half, I just took photos of those and some other items, and I hope to list most of them by the end of the week. I may not get there because I’ve got other things going on, but I met my goal. I feel really good about it because at least two of those typewriters are from last year’s deathpile.
Aggressive goals are for when you are trying to build up a big business, like T-Satt. Or when you work for a company, and they are trying to get every bit of energy out of you (or maybe you want to climb up the ladder). You are in a different situation where you have other obligations. You own your own time.
Who am I to tell you what to do, but I would try baby steps that build into bigger and bigger accomplishments over time.
Just my 2 cents and something about coffee …
Ha – you should at least use the “report buyer” button. I’d use Jay & Ryanne’s strategy and stay silent.
I started with about 8 or more of them over a year and a half ago. I guess it is a way for a designer to see what colors were popular during a certain time period. I keep looking out for anything Pantone, but, so far, I’ve only seen them that one time (online auction).
