Hilton points.
The big benefit is that if the transaction is recognized as shipping then I get 6x points. Buying shipping through ebay I only get 3x points because the transaction is filtered through paypal. I still get 6x points when using pirateship, but the TRS discount on priority is worth more than the points difference. I still use pirate ship for 1st class and alot of cubic rate stuff.
Now I’m using shippo for UPS too instead of ebay labels for larger stuff.
If you redeem your points smart and get the 6x points on shipping, it is worth ALOT more than $20 a month. I get a bunch of other perks too:
Currently diamond status (free breakfast, snacks, upgrades, etc)
book 4 nights with points get a 5th night free
I earn two bonus nights a year that can be used anywhere for a standard room.
I got 160000 points for signing up for the card and spending $3k, which took no time.
I’ve used this card for pretty much everything this year so I’ve earned ALOT of points. It’s worth much more than $20 a month.
I don’t want shipping to come out of payments.
Why throw away all those free CC points? It is very significant.
They may just mean use 1st class with tracking. Many shippers just use a stamp and pocket the difference.
The only lingering issue is that they need to allow payment for labels with cc instead of paypal. Why do they still only allow us to use paypal???
The only issue I had is that any returns opened for items sold prior to the switch will need to be manually refunded in Paypal, so keep some money in paypal for a couple weeks.
That caused me a massive headache because loading money back into paypal took longer than the window ebay gave me to refund buyer.
Otherwise, it is fine once you get used to the payout schedule.
I didn’t see these other posts before I responded.
Anyways, in order to do a media mail label you need to check the box for “media mail eligible” when filling out the package info.
You can’t buy a media mail label on ebay, but you can on pirateship.
The big red wasps are generally harmless and don’t pay any attention even if you are actively killing them.
Those yellow wasp/hornets? Ooooh, those little buggers are NASTY. Why do they always go right for the face??? It’s like the know exactly how to inflict max damage and insure you can’t run away too fast.
There are other issues at work here.
1. National coin shortage
2. Talk of pennies being eliminated from minting.
Also keep in mind that
1. You use the flat measurements of the bag. I occasionally do cheat and fold over some excess on the bag and use the smaller dimension.
2. The max length is 18″ to get the cubic rate. I heard you mention using 22″ polymailers – that won’t work.
And since we’re talking shipping, I tried out shippo last week to ship an item for my Father in law. It worked great. I also used it to ship a 120lb paper shredder. Their UPS rates are the best you can get it seems!

Took the whole week off for holiday. I think this is the first time I’ve ever taken the whole Thanksgiving week off! It was nice but flew by way too fast.
So I’ve been cleaning/organizing my ebay spaces for a few weeks now off and on. Every time I’m out of space, I magically seem to find more by organizing. Anyways, we got a portable hot tub a couple weeks ago and hadn’t put it up yet. We were really struggling with how to winterize it on the deck. My wife mentioned we should just put it in the garage. The garage is my ebay office. Surely I don’t have room out there, as I also have my 8’x8′ lifting platform in that area!!!
Well challenge accepted. I completely revamped the space, took organizing to ANOTHER new level, and now we have a hot tub out there. And oooohhhhh it’s NICE!
I did have to get rid of one table that I didn’t really need. I upgraded my photography area as well with a new table and I hung the lighting from the ceiling.
I can’t recommend a portable hot tub enough. Growing up I had a full size hot tub and I’ve used many hotel hot tubs. I can say for sure that I prefer this portable one over all of them. It is incredibly comfortable and the jets are surprisingly strong.
I’ve noticed lately that the auto unpaid item system is not working. The cases are not closing. Anyone else having this issue?
Sales are definitely hitting holiday levels. The first 3 weeks of December are usually super busy for me, so here’s to hoping for an awesome week this week!

I took last week off for the holiday. Here’ s my late numbers. I’ll post more info on current week’s numbers.
11/19/2020 at 7:21 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 488: Remember When Life Was Boring? #83557To expound on what Temudgin said, the two big rules are
1. The max length of the bag is 18″
2. It must actually still be a bag. You can’t slice the bag open and simply tape it tight around an item.
Everything else is fair game. I make extra money shipping big coats and boots via this method to west coast.
I have started extending the discount to customers by manipulating my shipping weight. Let’s say a pair of boots weighs 5 lbs but I know I can ship them in a poly mailer. I’ll just put in 2lbs for the shipping weight and I’ll put in dimensions below the dimensional shipping numbers. The west coast buyer will pay $12-14, but my shipping cost will be around 9-10. If I would have put in box dimensions and actual weight, their cost would have been over $20.

11/17/2020 at 2:57 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 488: Remember When Life Was Boring? #83515Yep, shipping from east coast to west coast can save you a great deal using cubic shipping.
Another tip – keep some 18×16 poly mailers on hand. Slightly bigger boxes can be put in those and with poly mailer dimensions you can get back into cubic rates.
