My guess is that the heads are separate to accommodate the casting process, not for any storage purpose. Instead of having a hole in the bottom of the figurines, they made two pieces and hid the holes in the necks. Pretty clever solution.
Thanks for the heads up!
I also use paper labels and I try not to tape over the barcodes, but there’s been several times where my head was elsewhere and I put the tape right over the barcode. Those packages arrived at their destination without incident. I assume that the tape makes it more difficult for USPS scanners to read. It would be nice if any postal workers out there could confirm. It rains a lot here and I’m always worried about the barcode smearing.

As noted by others, my shipping fees are paid with paypal, and my paypal account is linked to my rewards credit card.
Yes, I agree with Jay. Traditional Japanese clothing has a different sleeve and wouldn’t have closures like that one at the neck or those slits on the side. The closest traditional items are michiyuki and haori. This is some kind of reinterpretation.
An online retailer I order from occasionally had this message in their latest e-mail:
“The wonderful vaccine distribution news suggests that we might save up to 15,000 lives of front-line workers, residents of nursing homes, etc., due to this first wave of inoculations. UPS and FedEx have committed tremendous resources to delivering this vaccine, which requires extraordinarily cold temperatures during transport. The two shipping giants have teamed up to cover the country with each handling the delivery of ~8 million doses.
To make room for this volume, they have shut off package pickup and delivery from many top-10 online retailers. These retailers were forced to dump their packages on the Post Office, which is currently not equipped to deal with the volume.
Direct mail analysts are predicting up to 700,000,000 ordinary packages will not be delivered by Christmas as a result of the vaccine commitment and cascading consequences. Wow.”
So apparently the vaccine is another factor in the shipping issues.
My first thought was not that people are buying copper pennies in hopes of someday being able to melt them down, but to make countertops, backsplashes, floors etc. using pennies and resin. Maybe it looks nicer with the real copper pennies.
Yes, I was thinking that was the back of the fabric 🙂 Even prettier from the front! Maybe Chinese fabric is going for more these days because of demand from China. I know I have bought kimono fabric and whole kimono directly from Japanese sellers on eBay for very cheap.
This could also be Chinese fabric, based on the dragon motifs. If you search Chinese dragon brocade or damask you will see many similar fabrics. It is either silk or synthetic. This type of fabric would not be made of cotton or wool. So a burn test should give you a definitive answer. If it balls up and smells like burnt plastic it is synthetic. If it appears to burn like a natural fiber, I would be confident calling it silk.
Your photo of the writing is upside down. They are Chinese characters, but Japan also uses Chinese characters, so you can’t be sure of the origin just based on that. I can only make out the first two characters 山 and 向. If I had to guess, I would say Chinese because it seems to me like an unlikely character combination for Japanese.
Glad you posted about this. I got one too. I rarely check my eBay messages, might have missed it.
Ha, that’s funny because I thought the opposite. Last time I went to Milwaukie (pre-Covid) people didn’t even wait for all the tables to be in place before they started digging, and the employees did nothing about it. But maybe because it was a busy Saturday with lots of non-regulars who don’t know the rules. I always went to Airport on weekday mornings. It was mostly regulars and they were generally courteous and even helpful towards each other.
Hi cedarheart! Fellow Oregon bin picker here. I used to go to the Milwaukie bins often, but now I’m closer to the NE location so I go there. Sounds like you have had a good experience since they reopened. I have only gone to my location once, but I’m wondering if I just went at a bad time. I got there at opening and was there a couple hours, but they never turned any tables the entire time and every bin was completely picked through by the time I got to them. People were going the wrong direction from the arrows, or taking so long at one bin and holding up the flow. How does it even work when they rotate tables? Do you just hope to be the lucky person who is in front of the new bin? I really miss going. I have found so many cool things over the years.
What I would like to hear is that eBay and the other selling platforms are lobbying Congress to support USPS. I hope they are doing something on that front. Their business and ours depend on reliable, affordable shipping.
Hmm. I studied Japanese, but can’t make out any recognizable characters there. If anything, it is more reminiscent of archaic Chinese characters, but is more likely an abstract or stylized design.
