We had a 17 page knife catalog from the 80’s sell for $172.50 on auction. Thought it was a typo when it sold! The moral of the story is never throw anything from an auction box lot away!

I would refund now and move on…having it bug you until the 23rd is just not worth it and not good for you. You probably would get a negative for sure if you wait to refund.
11/21/2017 at 10:53 am in reply to: Proper Way To Refund When Buyer Misuses Returns to Avoid Paying for Shipping #26257In your situation, I would process the refund but then appeal, citing the fact that you disclosed this in your listing and she purchased anyway, so you should not have been responsible for the return shipping.
11/21/2017 at 10:47 am in reply to: Proper Way To Refund When Buyer Misuses Returns to Avoid Paying for Shipping #26256This info may be too late for your particular situation, but I had a similar situation last week. Buyer requested a return on a wool scarf stating “doesn’t match description or pictures”, further stating it looked more red than in the pictures (I had described as rust). Knowing that color normally falls under buyer remorse, I first called eBay before responding to the return and explained that I believe the buyer had chosen the wrong reason for return due to color (buyer remorse) and that I would gladly accept the return but felt that I should not be responsible for the return shipping. The eBay rep agreed with me and told me to contact her (using contact buyer on the return request) and tell her we would accept the return but she would be responsible for the return shipping cost. She did return it at her own expense and I refunded upon receipt. One small victory for sellers!
The buyer did not request a return but contacted me through eBay messages. His purchase was damaged in shipping cosmetically but was still functional, so I gave him a partial refund through PayPal.
Hi Sonia – just did a partial refund today and received no ebay credit but did receive a PayPal credit for all but 30 cents.
We ship USPS and request a carrier pickup every day. When the carrier arrives she comes in, scans the packages, and then carries them back to her vehicle. We often help her with the packages if we’re available but if we’re not, she knows exactly what to do and we’ve never missed a scan. They are in the system immediately. It’s great for our business and we always tip her nicely at the end of the year. Sure beats trying to go to the post office every day! Could this work for you?
Just had to share the latest, it’s good for a laugh. I may have come off a bit snarky, but I was totally honest. BTW, he has not yet purchased. 🙂
Email to me:
Hi,
I see you are a great seller by your feedback and I am a solid buyer by my feedback and I always ask before buying or bidding. I read your full description and I really wanted a new one of these that was not worn, however I may settle for a used one under certain conditions. Here are my questions:
1) if you bury your nose into this fleece, has it any odor at all and if so what is it?
2) do you know exactly where you got it and how long it was warn?
3) are there any stains or spots or marks anywhere from anything?
4) what else do you notice that I should know that I may not see in the photos regarding this fleece?
Thanks and I await your reply.
Regards,
DavidMy response:
Hi David –
In answer to your questions:
1) if you bury your nose into this fleece, has it any odor at all and if so what is it? It does smell of laundry detergent and dryer sheets.
2) do you know exactly where you got it and how long it was warn? We do know exactly where we got it and have no idea at all as to how long it was worn.
3) are there any stains or spots or marks anywhere from anything? There are no stains, spots or marks anywhere from anything.
4) what else do you notice that I should know that I may not see in the photos regarding this fleece? We believe the photos are quite accurate of condition.
The measurements for this item are listed in the item description.
I’m about to set up my first local pick up on a Stickley chair I got at auction. Naturally, I’m a bit nervous. One thing I was wondering about is contact info because there have been several notices from eBay recently about exchanging contact information in messages. I’m thinking about having them pay with PayPal first, then giving them my info to set up pick up. Would that cover me? Also, having them sign something when they pick up. What do you do though if they want to look at it before purchase? What do you do if they ask to arrange some kind of shipping? Thanks for any guidance you “pros” can pass along.
Just wondering how other sellers deal with buyers that ask 500 questions before purchasing? You just know in your gut that if they buy, there will be problems. Do you ignore the questions and block them so they can’t purchase? Let them buy and deal with the aftermath later?
Rob – I was wondering if it might be white onyx? Onyx is a bit more transparent than alabaster.
Buyers should be required to check a box that says “I have read the description of this item” before they can ask questions…Just wishful thinking, I’m sure, but I really, really get tired of having to answer ridiculous questions like what size is this, what is this made of, what are the measurements, etc. when all they had to do is read the description. I feel I should answer and not just tell them to read the description because that seems a little abrupt and rude, but come on people, I don’t have time for all this! And it’s getting to be several times a week lately. Thoughts from other sellers?
LAwoman – you can use the bulk editor to increase or decrease your buy it now prices by a percentage. I just go to active listings, do a search for the store category I want to change (ie, women’s shoes), select all listings, then edit, then price, then buy it now. The choice to increase or decrease is there. Hope this helps you!
My understanding is that the buyer has 30 days to initiate a return from the date of delivery. If it was delivered 8/11 and started the return today, 9/12, technically I would think that the time should be up, but chances are eBay will still allow it.

I wish more buyers would just approach their seller with honesty and a little kindness…they would be very surprised to see just how far most sellers would go to make things right for them.
