07/10/2018 at 2:59 pm in reply to: New shipping label page on eBay is costing me more than classic shipping page! #45041
Update…just spent over 60 minutes on the phone with an eBay rep (who doesn’t speak or understand the English language) trying to make him understand the problem. He finally said someone would call me back in 72 hours (bets anyone?). I was overcharged on ALL priority mail labels I did with the new interface for yesterday, 7/9 and today, 7/10. Media mail and 1st class are not affected. The new interface also shows only $50 insurance with priority mail instead of the $100. I will go back to the old interface (you have to select it on every label) to print until the latest glitch is fixed. I have sent three messages as well from the “tell us what you think” button on the print label page. I have 7 labels I was overcharged for, and no, I won’t be letting it go like they are hoping for. Anyone with the new printing interface…don’t use it.
07/10/2018 at 1:27 pm in reply to: New shipping label page on eBay is costing me more than classic shipping page! #45026I have the new shipping page and have had it for about a week. I ship some of my clothing items in padded flat rate envelopes. My postage cost has always been $6.90 (as of the last USPS increase). Starting on Monday, 07/09/18, my postage for same increased to $7.10. I’m not sure if my other shipping costs were increased or not.
They got me too! It’s been a fun couple of weeks!
New day, new glitch or permanent change? I set up a sale today and never gave it another thought until I saw the comments here. I just checked mine and sure enough, only 2 items were marked down which makes NO sense because I have never put this store category on sale. I also vote for Scavenger Bay!!
I had a similar thing happen to me in the past, no where near the amount of money you are talking about, but this is how I handled it. Buyer bought a new pair of boots from me for $40.00. She got them and wanted to return them for fit. She did return them but provided no internal protection whatsoever and just threw them in the box. The “new” boots were now covered with digs and scratches, looked pretty sad, and could no longer be considered a “new” item. I did refund her in full and ending up donating the boots to my local thrift store. I took several pictures of the damage and filed a USPS claim in reverse order…the buyer was the sender, I was the recipient. I provided proof of value, I provided documentation of damage. I requested the claim be paid to me, the recipient. No questions asked whatsoever, USPS paid in full in about one weeks time (because priority mail is insured). I avoided going back and forth with the buyer, I satisfied eBay because I refunded the buyer, I was made whole and hopefully someone found a pair of boots that looked pretty bad but would serve them well for work or whatever for a few years.
As an update on my experiment with free returns (May 6 – June 27), I have decided to turn off free returns. First and foremost, it is not good for my psyche. Secondly, it is not good for my small business. I have had 4 returns, costing me $38.98, (of course they were all heavy items sent priority mail) for buyers changing their minds or doesn’t fit. I feel like a weight has been lifted since I made the decision!
Looks like the problem has stopped, but nothing is happening with the lost pictures.
Just wondering what the concensus among Sellers is on the missing pictures…is everyone trying to restore their own pictures or are you still waiting to see if they show up? Really hard to believe that we still have no announcement and no guidance. Super frustrating.
Looks like I have 65 or more affected with hundreds of pictures (usually 5 – 6 per item). I did try Joe’s suggestion to recover pictures and it does work, but recouping would take a whole lot of work and time.
Same problem here. I checked their system status board and it reports that “all services are in good health”. This has been going on for a couple of days now (that we have noticed), why in the world don’t they put out an announcement? How are we suppose to figure out which listings had pictures deleted (things that relisted in the last couple of days)? I can’t even do “sell similar” right now, I get a picture error.
Hi Sonia – thanks for the great info! Not sure what you were thinking of listing for, but I sold a pair in April for $115.00 through global shipping. It sounds like mine were from 1991 (didn’t know that then). Anyway, they seem to be popular world wide and I only had them listed for a couple of days when they sold. Best of luck to you!
If you invite someone to take advantage (eBay, free returns) they most certainly will. That’s what’s happening. Unfortunately I added free returns (and probably Katie did too I’m guessing) before they offered the promotion so we won’t be getting our return shipping reimbursed. Happy to have gotten you to smile KatieScott! 😉
KatieScott – I hear you. I am also considering turning them off soon, but I made a vow to myself that I would try it until June 30th. I have just a small store, right around 1000 items at all times. Since I began selling clothing and shoes a few years ago, I have averaged 6 – 10 returns in an entire year. I turned on free returns on May 8th. I have now had 3 returns for “doesn’t fit”. Those items were one heavy coat and two were women’s shoes. On these three items, I have paid nearly $30 for free return shipping. I have not seen any increase in sales and that $30 is much more than the piddly 10% FVF discount I might receive. I am not at all concerned with losing my “Top Rated Seller Plus” rating, but I was concerned with being dropped down much further in the search rankings if I didn’t participate. As it is, I have to promote about half of my store to get sales, and that of course is another big expense that SHOULDN’T BE NECESSARY since we are already paying a store subscription to list and paying final value fees on both the item price and the shipping cost. I’m also getting very frustrated trying to keep jumping through all the many hoops put in front of me and wonder how long this small business will be able to hang on. I don’t know the answer. I just feel like eBay is trying to force smaller sellers right out of the picture. I get a chuckle out of their “inventory recommendations” message…yesterday they suggested that I start selling safety hoists, winches and fork lifts! Sure, I’ll get right on that. Just wanted you to know that I certainly feel your frustration and you are definitely not alone in this!
Just have to blow off some steam on the subject of free returns. I turned on free returns on May 8th. In general over the last 3 years or so (when I began selling clothing items), I have about 6 – 10 returns in an entire year. I have just received my second return this month for clothing items that “do not fit”. I’ll now be paying the return shipping of course, so I’m out $18.14 for the month of May – $10.23 for a heavy coat and $7.91 for a pair of shoes. At this point I’m failing to see any benefit other than to the very lucky buyers. I would like to hear from others that turned on free returns early to see if they have experienced an increase.
Hi karlacreekbank and Happy Mother’s Day!
I can’t name the print that you have, but the good news is I sold a similar Lee Roberson print about two years ago for $125.00! He was a very sought after artist, at least at that time. I wish you the very best of luck with this beautiful print. I’d be curious to find out how you do with the print if you care to post a follow up.
