I found this interview from 2015 with a Pinterest exec. I thought it was interesting and it supported what someone said (sorry I forgot who it was) a while back about making special boards instead of pinning all your ebay pins to one board. I think it was Anne or Kate who said it about art?? I used to pin everything to one ebay/etsy board but now for some things I’m creating a separate board that compliments the item. Especially if it is a higher dollar item.
It’s not something I want to spend a lot of time on but since I don’t do Facebook or other social media type marketing I do this. It doesn’t take much time and it’s something I can do when I’m tired of listing.
I’ve been watching a lot of Nicole State’s State’s Place on Youtube lately. She sells all clothing on ebay and postmark. Although I don’t sell much clothing she also talks about reselling in general and I’ve learned some good things from her.
I sell all kinds of things like Jay and Ryanne. After thinking about it I’ve decided to offer free shipping on some first class categories like hats and tshirts. I bulk edited and added $3 to all and then added free shipping.
Before I was hesitant because of the returns issue but I just don’t get enough returns for that to stop me. I know people filter by free shipping so I’m going to try it out on some items. Maybe it will increase sales and visibility.
Interesting theory. I have some minor issues I haven’t called about because they just didn’t seem worth the wait on hold. Maybe I’ll give the theory a test as well. As a I was a science major in college I love a good theory!
Sorry about your father. I can empathize. My mom died in August and it was so good that I could extend my shipping handling time for a while so that it wouldn’t be an additional stress. I was able to spend time with her that I couldn’t have done if I had been working full time at a conventional job.
CTLady one thing is buyers don’t have a dozen or more identical items to choose from like is often the case on ebay but they also don’t seem interested in checking ebay to see if it is cheaper there. Small example. I just sold a christmas ornament on etsy for 9.99 plus shipping. I didn’t even list it on ebay because there were so many (109) of that ornament and it was selling for as little as 4.50 free shipping. On etsy there were only five others. Mine was not the lowest priced on etsy either. Don’t know why it sold before the other two priced lower. Maybe it was because they saw mine first and thought the price was low enough that it wasn’t worth price shopping. After all it was only 10 bucks but I do see this with higher priced items as well.
My sales have been good on both ebay and etsy since Thanksgiving. I do stock a lot of vintage Christmas items and Christmas craft kits though.
Something I’ve notice recently about Etsy. Buyers on Etsy must not shop around for best price. I cross post most of my vintage on Etsy and buyers will often pay more for my item on Etsy than they would for the same item I have listed on Ebay. The reason it’s less on ebay is because I run sales on Ebay. On etsy there is no system to run sales unless you use a paid third party application.

Nice picture! I agree you don’t need a lightbox. I decided I’m going to build my own and use an LED desk lamp that I have that can be over the box. For 19.99 it’s cheap enough that I may still go that route. I have a really old house and in my workroom there is no overhead lighting. All I have in there are lamps which cast shadows. I either need to fix my lighting issue or get something like this lightbox which give me a small space with excellent lighting. Hmmm. Or maybe I can just stick small items under my desktop Ottlite. Back to the drawing board to see what works.
I am researching light boxes. I’m considering a small one I found on Amazon that has built in LED lights that you can power with your computer or a phone charger via usb cable. I usually use natural light but with the winter’s shorter days and a lot of overcast days lately I don’t have enough good light. The box is not very big so I would be limited to doing smaller items when I used it. Any thoughts or experience with this type?
Thanks Jeannette. I saw some beautiful items made out of burl maple when I was looking through the google images. I didn’t know it was collectible. It’s really pretty the photo doesn’t do it justice. My phone takes bad photos!

I just spent an hour wrapping christmas light bulbs in tissue paper. I watched videos while I did it so it wasn’t too bad but not worth $30. I haven’t even boxed them yet.
I just wanted to leave a tip. I don’t know if I heard this from someone else or if I thought of it myself. Either way when it popped into my head I thought it was genius 🙂
I ran out of tissue paper and was trying to think of something to use to finish the job. Sewing patterns! They are made out of tissue paper. I had a couple that I had bought to sell that weren’t worth selling so I pulled them out and they worked great. Probably cheaper than actual tissue paper too if you have a store that sells patterns cheaply.

I thought I would get more for them…I sold them on sale for $30. Not really worth all the work! I will be remembering that next time. Vintage Christmas stuff is one of those things I have a hard time leaving on the shelf. Nostalgia as most of the stuff I pick up is from the 60s and 70s when I grew up.
