I had two similar cases recently but both through Fedex.
1st case: I got an item back unexpectedly. looked up tracking and saw that they tried to deliver it repeatedly and then it sat at an office to pick up for a week. Person never did and they returned it. It had already been close to 30 days and I’d never heard from the person. So I waited for them to contact me. They haven’t yet and we are aprroaching 45 days. So this is unresolved and I won’t relist until I get contact or the returns period ends. My guess is the person moved, are dead, or are in the hospital for an extended time.
2nd case: I got an item back also unexpectly a few days ago. Looked at tracking and it said an undeliverable address. Looked at the address and it looked fine except “Street” was spelled “SAtreet”. Could this be why it got returned? That would be stupid, don’t humans look at the address? So yesterday the person emailed me and opened a missing package case saying why did it get returned, didn’t you use this address (they gave me their address without a typo).
So I had two choices: I could call ebay and see if they’d close the case since they were the ones with the undeliverable address, or I could just refund them and take the loss on the shipping. I decided the later as it was $13-14 and it the long run that is fine with me. I messaged them that they should double check their address in ebay and paypal.
Side note: I was surprised when I refunded I didn’t get the option to withhold shipping and provide a reason why. It was only the total price or nothing. I will eventually relist this item, but I decided to block that bidder since they obvious screwed up their address and are liable to do something else silly in the future.
So in each of these cases, I waited for the person to contact me. My reasoning is I did everything right, they supplied the address. I shipped it correctly, provided tracking, it got there okay, and something on their end was wrong that was out of my control.
You already contacted them so if they open a case in the future they will be entiled to a refund which maybe if you want to take the time you could call ebay and fight for the $20. If you do this, call support (or use that Facebook ebay support people have mentioned) before responding to the buyer. If the person wants the item and it willing to repay shipping you can try this, but if it is done off ebay you might run into seller (and buyer) protection issues. I probably wouldn’t do this personally. If it was me, I’d just do what I did in case #2 above, refund, take the loss and move on, unless the shipping was alot out of my pocket, then I might call ebay first and see if I have other options to contest.
As a follow up to this thead I posted a few months back, I listed and sold 4 plates to a collector who informed me that they were lettuce green (which are a little less desireable and cheaper it seems), not avocado yellow as I was thinking. She said that color is about 30% darker and dirter looking. I just went back and relisted my remaining current auctions with the update, but boy if you search lettuce green you still get a whole range of shades and colors, very confusing.
So if you go to the picture in the original thread, the top plate is lettuce green and the bottom plate is avocado yellow from what I’m getting from her expertise.
At the end of her message, she said no problem, she’d keep them, but just wanted to educate me a bit. Super nice of her, so I thanked her and reminded her I do have full returns and would happily refund upon receipt. But I think I got lucky with a very reasonable (and knowledgable) buyer!
I know. I’ve tried to use the remove background option on the eBay phone app a few times and it is pretty klunky. Less than 10 of my listings have it because it worked. I’ll stick to my natural background for these vintage things. Maybe it does matter for new goods? Who knows….
Here is a screen cap of me searching for part of a title in one of my listings. Mine is the second on on the top and the longer listing the bottom. Both use my mid-century modern dining room table background that is on 95% of my listings. 🙂 Note only one of them that comes up in search has the white background.
bought one (and labels) used the links, thank you! Now I get to sell my dymo 450 on ebay and offset the cost a bit! 🙂
Ryanne, thinking of pulling the trigger on a rollo also (will use your affliate link if I do!) How have you been liking it for the last 3-4 months? Any problems or issues?
I usually get the regular ones from suppyhut (great service, no problems) but now that I see that the starch ones are only like $4 for the same amount, I think my next purchase will be the eco-friendly ones also. Thanks for starting this thread Ryanne!
Mycottage basically said what I was going to say. Even if it cost a tad more, but decreased barriers to entry for new users, that would probably increase all of our sales in the long run, which I see as a net positive.
I actually assumed that the FVF was put on sales tax also. My calculations include it, so that is a source of error but one across all scenarios so my results probably still hold.
But I think both of our analysis shows that the savings will be quite small, and in some cases (sellers with high dollar international sales) the savings may be nil or actually cost more.
I already used up my coupon for this month but would consider buying these another time. Perhaps one of you can give us a mini-review after you get them and ship some things out using them. Mostly interested if you will feel that you need to reinforce them more or they are bend-proof enough.
This is great for me as I was bummed I couldn’t take advantage of the previous offer. I’m a college instructor (the the lead for my area of study at my college) and have been working my butt off get all my classes converted to online and teach them well each week. I’ve not been able to list much at all. But once school is over in mid-June I’m going to go crazy and list as much as possible. That should get my store to over a 1000 listings and I’ll save some cash on those listed above 1000. Now if they would extend it through the whole summer I’d really be thrilled!
The middle chain and the droplet made me think of water dowsing. A quick google search on water dowsing symbols did not bring it up but there were some similar things. Maybe go down this rabbit hole for a bit and you might find it?
Yes, maybe this. It is crazy how close some of these colors are! This is worse than Fiestaware!
“trying something new” – Good point almasty. One of my recent sales was Vietnamese language learning software. I just sent some offers out on those hook/latch rug kits (I have a couple). Those would also be perfect projects to tackle while you wait out this time.
My sales have been choppy. Sending out offers has helped on low value items (under $30).
I’ve definitely sold some items that are due to so many people are cooped up at home. My most obvious was a 14,000 (yes, that is correct!) piece puzzle that a guy in Washingon State made me an offer on which came to an agreed price on ($82). He implied in a message it was due to being housebound. So games, playing cards, puzzles, toys, etc. all might do real well right now. I’ve also sold cookware and some bowls which might be from people needing items to cook with and serve more food due to shelter in place.
Those are the kind of things I’d recommend people search there death piles for and list. For example, I’m listing some chess stuff this weekend and some coffee making items.
