I continued to purge and organize my listed trading card inventory and boxes of bulk cards to sell on consignment.
Wow, you’re really going all in on that consignment, and it seems to be working for you. Didn’t you have over 3000 items in your store just a few months ago?
@Craig – Not sure how good my eye is, but even a blind dog occasionally finds a bone, right. 🙂
I used to have auto-decline on for offers below 50% also, then I read someplace, possibly here on SL, that having auto-decline shuts down a potential conversation that could lead to a sale. The vast majority of my counter offers go on deaf ears anyway, but every once and a while that low-baller is just fishing and will snatch up my 25% off counter offer. Perhaps they would have made another higher offer anyway, but you never know. You have a much larger store than I do, so I can imagine that shutting down some of the noise could be helpful. As a smaller seller I hate to miss any sale. And recently, with things being so slow, I’ve even taken a few offers below 50%.

Those lamps are cool.

New items listed: 7Nice number of sales you guys had this week. I love how it is all so random. You never know what is going to sell and it seems almost anything will sell eventually.
Had mostly low-dollar sales again this week, but my week was saved by a sale of an 1930’s Art Deco lamp shade for $350. I was originally asking $650 but with things being so slow I accepted an offer. Paid $48 for it from an auction. Also sold a nice vintage wind-up alarm clock within 2 hours of posting it for $29. I was surprised it sold so quickly as the alarm didn’t work. The other things that sold were very long tail.
@retro – Yes! One of my pet peeves also. I had someone do something similar a few weeks ago at one. I’ve had them doing this at Estate Sales also. There are a lot of new companies doing estate sales in my area since the pandemic and so many don’t mark anything in advance.
I did know that older lacquer boxes can be valuable. In college I was a Russian Culture and Language major so I have a mild familiarity with Russian collectibles. Boxes made prior to the fall of the wall can sell for decent money. This one wasn’t in great shape, but I expected it to go for far more than it did, having come from a quality collective and having been made by an artist that even today can be found on the web. I bought two at the same auction and sold the first almost immediately for $350. If things weren’t so slow right now I’d have held out for more. At least I talked the buyer up from $125 to $200.
I was happy with that sale. Quite a come down from the original value I thought they had, but this sale covered the cost of my experiment and I still have to two huge boxes to sell, though they probably won’t make much more. As with a lot of test buys like this, I learned a lot and that makes it worth it. I’ll make better buys in the future. Thanks as always for your generosity.

Still slow but had a nice sale with the Russian lacquer box. I’ve had it for several years and was originally asking almost $700, finally couldn’t resist an offer of $200. I paid $58 for it which is why my COGs are so high.
Had another nice sale with an American Flyer train catalog mailer from 1928. It was in pretty rough shape, but someone was still willing to pay $40.
Two of our local auction houses that went virtual during the pandemic had their first live auctions last week. A good sign of the times, I hope.
@retro-treasures-wv – Good job on those CDs. I’ve sold many in the past and you’re much faster than I am. If you can find the right lot they can be quite profitable. I bought a lot of over 1000 a few years ago and they are still selling. Last week sold another one for $49. It was a lot of work to go through them all. Only listed 76 out of the lot, but resold the unlisted ones for the same price I bought the lot for.
@Craig-rex – Cool sale on the Taillon card. For some reason your link didn’t take. I was able to find it on Terapeak though. Interesting that Terapeak has the sale price for $210 and clicking through shows it sold for $239.
I’ve been slogging through Quickbooks to try and migrate over. A word of caution: GoDaddy has provided a migration tool that supposedly migrates your data over to QuickBooks. I gave the tool a shot and I’m sorry I did. It imported a lot of confusing data that doesn’t make sense in quickbooks. Somehow it is showing that I have $140,000 in one account??? I wish. I’m very hesitant to pay the $500 for help, but not sure I can figure out how to clean the data, otherwise.
I may still just clear it out and start from scratch. I’ve downloaded all my GoDaddy data into spreadsheets for reference. I foresee a very confusing tax reconciliation next year. Ugh.
Good luck.

New items listed: 6COVID finally came home to roost at my house last week. Slowly made it’s way through the family. I got the worst of it and was in bed for 3 days with mainly fever and aches. Now I’m just really fatigued and haven’t been up to doing anything until yesterday. I don’t normally get sick and I’ve had 3 doses of Pfizer, so I was surprised it hit so hard. Be careful out there.
Slowest week on eBay in memory. Only sold 6 low $ items. The one large sale I had was from Facebook Marketplace, but unfortunately I sold the guitar at cost. It was one of a 3 guitar lot that I overpaid for several weeks back due to misidentifying one of the guitars. At least I’m breaking even.
My “big” eBay sale was a lot of chrome basketball cards that sold for $42. I had purchased as an experiment after reading some of Craig-rex’s posts. I had them listed for $49 and was happy for the $42 offer. Thanks to Craig for help with identification.
Thanks for sharing the note.
I went ahead and signed up for Quickbooks at the lowest level and started the migration process. I’ll let you all know how it goes.
This is frustrating. I still haven’t received any notification from them that the service is expiring. I’m not thrilled with the idea of going to QuickBooks as my experience with their consumer product was pretty awful. I may give QuickBooks a try while the discount is in place.
Hi Reed, Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you’ll fit right in. Look forward to hearing about your journey.

I am not a surfer, but I love this poster. I would love to know more about how you found the poster and identified it.
@Craig-rex – This one had an interesting story. It was unmarked so not much to go on. I uploaded the picture to Google images and found one and only one hit. Turned out the hit was on the obituary for the surfer in the picture who passed away this past year. The original picture was used in the obituary. He had owned Sun Coast Surf Shop in Clearwater, FL and was a local celebrity. It was interesting for me personally, also, as I grew up going to Clearwater Beach and have been in his store many times over the years.I got the poster in a large lot of posters. I purchased the lot because it had one other surfing poster for the movie Endless Summer that turned out to be an original from the 1960’s. That one I sold for $800 a few months ago.
