Update. Got them all posted, including a few more from the same series, President Grant and British PM William Gladstone. With so few comps, I decided to shoot high and wait for offers. I followed my usual pattern of firm price for first 30 days then will open to offers after that.
Interestingly, I received an unsolicited offer of $100 for the Grant card less than 15 minutes after I posted it. Didn’t take it as I want to wait and see a bit.
I also decided that I’d follow the baseball card route and assume some “players” are more valuable than others, and condition brings a premium, so I priced a few more famous people and mint cards higher.
This was one of those times when I really love doing this the most. Each card was a history lesson in itself, learning not only what these cards are, but also who each of the people are that are in them.
Now to get on with posting the CDVs and Cabinet cards I actually bought the lot for.
Thanks for the input.

Wow! Thanks, Mike! I had hopes that was what they were worth. If it follows through, this will be my biggest profit from scavenging yet. You’re either better at searching than I am, or have access to some records I don’t. Maybe both :-). Appreciate the assist.

In case it works better with imgur:
I can share your pain. Don’t have quite your years of experience, but just received out first neutral as well. Buyer just said, “OK”. The item was damaged in shipping, so we offered a full refund if the user would send us a picture of the damage. They never did send the picture or ask for a return, but left the neutral feedback. I reached back out to them after a few days and asked if I could help but never got another response. I even called eBay to see if I could get it removed since I tried to resolve their issue, but they indicated that since it was neutral and nothing negative that they wouldn’t remove. At least it doesn’t change the 100% positive feedback rating.

Just wanted to comment on how much I appreciate your honest approach to dealing with customers. So refreshing to hear that there are still people who believe in treating others with respect. It’s so easy take the path of least resistance and hope the buyer doesn’t notice, or is too lazy to return or complain. Also, appreciate the positive message you give; so easy to be negative. You take the high road every time and it is inspiring.
Thanks. Maybe I’m overthinking it. I was thinking I needed something to stuff in the middle to help maintain the shape and keep the weight off the sides of the saddle to make sure nothing lost shape in shipping. My 11 year old, who’s taking riding lessons, tells me I should store them standing with nose down, so maybe I’ll ship them that way, also.
Hope you enjoy your trip.
I tried the Terapeak trial and I still was only able to see 90 days worth of data. The keyword tool was sometimes useful, but otherwise I didn’t see the value. Perhaps I didn’t give it enough time, but the trial is only for 7 days.
I like using pic click.com. Easier interface than eBay for checking fast.
11/16/2016 at 7:11 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Marantz Stereo, Antique Cabinet Photo, Patagonia Jacket #5988Thanks for sharing your electronics process, Steve. I’ve got a stack of components I picked up at an estate sale and have been procrastinating on testing them. Two of the first components I tested had problems, and the fear of finding the others have issues has me stalling and posting other things. Fortunately, I sold the Realistic equalizer for what I paid for the bunch, so at least I’m even. Lots more work than tshirts and shoes for sure, but what returns!
I think we’d (wife and I) be interested. We’re not too far away, over in Chevy Chase. Maybe some Saturday after prime scavenging time? Look forward to it.
Hi Jay and Ryanne,
Joining the chorus of voices that love the new site design overall. Two things I’ve noticed that would make it a nicer experience. I have searched the site several times to find topics. Search brings up whole posts and if it is a term that is used frequently, you have to slog through a lot of full posts to find what you’re looking for. If possible, it would be nice to have a truncated post that shows the relevant excerpt and a link to the full post instead. Especially troublesome when on mobile. I’ve seen this on other sites, but not sure if it is a feature of WordPress.
Second, when using a mobile device (android) in portrait mode, the words get crammed over to the right side and it only allows 3 – 5 words per line. Perhaps there is a way to make this more mobile friendly. Workaround is to turn to landscape mode.
Keep up the great work.

Thanks for the good advice. Going to have to buy peanuts. This time I happened to have styrofoam inserts from another box that I was able to repurpose. Definitely need to estimate more weight next time. Cost me $8 more on shipping because the item grew from 20 lb to 24. Found out after 20 lbs that it is cheaper to ship via FedEx or UPS, also. USPS was $6 more for slower service. Lesson learned.
