New items listed: 14Fantastic week of sales for Jay and Ryanne. To have so many sales and a high average selling price must have been satisfying. Below average sales for the week for me, but fortunately what sold went for good prices. The Etsy sales really saved the week. Though I only put a small percentage of my items for sale on the platform, it accounts for a decent percentage of my sales without a significant amount of additional work (except starting learning curve which was significant). I still have a hard time justifying paying the monthly fee for Sixbit, though, and will probably cancel the subscription once I devise a system to help me keep items in sync.
Bid at one auction during the week and hit some estate sales Saturday. Found a few interesting things, but most things were overpriced. I went back to one on Sunday morning for the 50% sale and picked up a nice Seth Thomas nautical clock and some Arabia pottery that should sell well.
Had some interesting sales during the week. Sold my new longest tail item, a Star Wars Darth Vader watch for $12.99, after 2007 days. Watch was sealed in its case and the battery had gone bad in the interim. Offered to open it and replace battery but buyer wanted it still sealed. Sold a brochure for a 1950s fly fishing reel for $19.95 the day I listed it. Brochure was in the bottom of a box of pipes I purchased.
@debitendcredits – Amazing. Can’t hardly imagine 60 sales in a single week. It’s a wonder you got so many items listed with all that packing. Congrats.
@Craig Rex – Are most of your sales from your recent postings? Do you have an idea about what your average shelf time is?
I used to buy all my refurbished computers on Amazon but ebay’s new computer refurbisher standards has made it a lot less risky, and cheaper, to buy my refurbished PCs on ebay now.
What are eBay’s new standards? Do they have some used PC program now? I’m impressed that you are buying used computers to provide clients. I’d be afraid I was buying someone else’s problems.
I tried the new bulk editing tool last week. Immediately switched back to the old, but I guess the days are numbered before they automatically switch us. I mainly use the bulk editing tool to get an export of recent listings to upload into my tracking spreadsheet so I don’t have to retype everything, just cut and paste. For some reason they left the Item ID off the new tool which is my unique identifier in my spreadsheet. I sent them some feedback and hope they listen.
Yeah it gets me in the door to look, but it also gets me OUT the door just as fast. So many wasted trips and high hopes during the times we’ve house shopped.
Yes, it was quite disheartening. We’ve been thinking about buying a place in Luray for the last several years and based on the pictures we were ready to jump in. Such a cute place. Still mourning the loss. ;-(
That Victorian home you looked at is already under contract. Crazy.
Yes, very crazy. I have a feeling it went for asking price. I’ll be interested to see when the final number is posted. It was priced at what fully renovated houses have been selling for, but it needed a lot of work. Showed great in the pictures, though, almost wonder if some out of towner bought it based on the pictures alone. Maybe the interest rate rise will at least cause the market to stabilize for a while.
This is such a stressful situation in the moment, right up there with a message from a buyer who’s already received their item.
Yes, it is stressful. I guess if this is the height of my job stress, I’m doing pretty good. I always assume first that I put it in the wrong box, then proceed to go through every box trying to find it.
I agree with you about this board’s attitude in contrast to others. It is refreshing. Jay and Ryanne set a high standard. It’s all about personal responsibility and expecting the best from people.

New items listed: 7We made the pilgrimage to Scavenger Mecca this last week and visited Broadporch Coffee in Luray. Jay and Ryanne, it was great to finally meet you in person. Thanks for taking time out to say hi. We love your cafe. You’ve created quite a special space. So busy, too. There was standing room only on Saturday morning with overflow out on the sidewalk. That must feel so good to see your successful results. Very happy for you!
Had OK sales for the week, below average, but we had the store on vacation for a few days while we were out of town. Biggest sale ($185) was another Tumi bag from the luggage lot I won at auction. Had another nice sale from Etsy ($99.95) of a smoking pipe I just posted last week.
Had one cancelled order because I couldn’t find the item. That is only the 3rd time I recall having lost an item. This was a 4th of July program from the 1800s. Only thing I can figure is I shipped it along with another piece. The two packages I shipped to the wrong customers week before last seem to be resolved. Each customer agreed to reship to the other and I just sent them labels via eBay email. Took one about a week to comply, but finally on its way. Both were surprisingly understanding but holding my breath until they post their reviews.
@debitandcredits – Nice sale from the Airedale collection. Looks like you’ve got a lot more in the pipeline, too. Great find.
@ChristineR – Good luck with your change. I stopped working 5 years ago for similar reasons and it has been well worth the sacrifices.

New items listed: 11My sales were OK and about my “new” average. I was averaging about 19 sales per week last year at this time, and this year I’m at 12 per week. I should expect lower sales for me, though, as I’ve only been averaging about 8 listings per week this year, versus 18 last year. Considering what others are saying, I guess I did OK this week.
I found out over the weekend that I managed to swap labels on two of my sales last week and I’m now working to see if I can salvage them and convince the two buyers to ship them to each other rather than return them to me. I did this once before a few years ago and lucked out. Hoping to have a similar resolution this time.
Most of my new listings this week were from an auction lot of vintage smoking pipes I purchased the previous week. I’ve done very well off of pipes in the past and I think these will also sell well. They looked pretty shabby when I picked them up, but thankfully they cleaned up easily and didn’t require much beyond oiling and sanitizing. Paid $31 for 8 pipes and a salt and pepper set and listed them all for $480. One pipe sold in a few hours for $49.95 so I’m in the money.
My focus this week is going to be on electronics. I have a big pile of potentially high $ sales that I’ve been putting off because they all require testing. Some audio equipment and some DVD/VCR combos. Decided they are taking up too much space and I need to get them listed.
@craig-rex – I can understand your feelings about the card sales for recently deceased stars. Feels a bit unseemly to capitalize on tragedy.04/09/2022 at 10:25 am in reply to: Preway fireplace, Magnavox record player, Ford radio, Wizard pencil sharpener #95820Nice sale on the stove. I’m amazed that someone out there still reveres the Mustang II. Definitely a model that deserves to have faded into obscurity.
Love the devil dog. Figurine lots with animals are fun. We won a large lot of pig figurines at auction a few years ago for $70. So far we’ve made over $1000 off of the lot and they are still selling. Got to love the collectors.
@NC – I always find those learning experiences valuable down the line. That extra level of expertise you get by slogging through something like that and researching.
