Hmm, looks like this unit may actually be 2 inches to tall for my window, but you get the point of what I’m going for.
That’s awesome. Part of it is just brand recognition- I’ve heard of Seiko but didn’t really know the value behind the name

If you aren’t highkey haggling the price, what does it matter what they do? I had a similar event happen when I first tried to do books in Vermont. They had a price of 50 cents each so I got a few baskets worth. Got to the front and they all had tags on the inside cover, between $4-8 EACH! For books, at a Salvation Army. I couldn’t get them, that’s what I would be making, so I left the lady with 3 baskets of books to recolorcode. I had been back a few times for personal shopping, and I never saw anyone buy books.

Man I was feeling this stimulus check being sent out. I sold a $60 hat, a chintz dish I’ve been sitting on for months, and a cigarette display rack that I was using as a display for months before listing it ($50+ $50 shipping) Grandma had cataract surgery this week and I’ve just been unable to really give Ebay attention. Had a minor breakdown with my dad about not being able to afford the office rent, the payment for the building, and being able to pay myself, and so he’s going to help with the dual office/building payments for the next few months while I’m waiting to move in. I feel like my pride hurts a little bit taking help from dad, but the bigger picture is moving all my inventory twice and disrupting my household for 3 months waiting for the shiny new building to be built is just hectic and not productive, so it’s really awesome that he can help out.
Facebook is definitely slowing down, I’m still getting messages but not as many buyers. This will be my 3rd week of renewing listings, so I’m curious to see if when I relist everything in a couple weeks if I’ll go back to having like 5 sales a week on there.
Building update: Slab gets poured tomorrrow. The crew has been prepping the sight this weekend. I think it’s finally settling in just how big this thing is going to be. Additionally, I went with a new company and have been doing some edits to the building and the building itself has gone from $8,500 to $7100, which is awesome.
Hi, Julie!
Yes! I basically did the same thing, but in reverse. I listed some stuff on poshmark in addition to ebay and facebook, but decided posh wasn’t for me. I think ebay and facebook work really well together, facebook lets you list almost anything with shipping (this is new as of the last few months). I do mostly collectibles and vintage housegoods, so I wouldn’t know about clothes but I know I buy a lot of clothes on FB. FB isn’t entirely clear about seller protections/buyer protections, so I tend to list items for $50 or less on facebook, and leave the higher end stuff for ebay. Be prepared for a lot of “is this available” messages. I just respond that it is for shipping, and to buy through the “buy now” button. I also have this link saved which explains how to buy things on FB, (https://www.facebook.com/help/516057215192865) I send it out whenever people seem to be having trouble, rather than explaining myself. Since I started shipping, my local sales are basically nonexistant, which I love. Another drawback to FB is if you list your own label, through pirateship for example, then you have to front the item shipping price, and be reimbursed about 2 weeks after the sale happens. \
Hopw this helps!
Lauren
Thanks!
I don’t know if I’d do another bulk buy for more than a couple bucks, but I’ll definitely start looking a little more closely. I thiink I got lucky on this one, because there were a good amount of 70’s/80’s/90’s pop culture ones. I did order a battery kit to keep on hand and learn how to change batteries, because if these aren’t ticking it seems like the price drops significantly.
Cheers!
Items in Shop: 800! Woot!
Items sold: 7 (5 on Ebay, 2 on FBM)
Sales: $150
COGS: $5
Net Sales, after FVF: $132
Everything that sold this week on Ebay were sub $20 items. Gross. However, they were all paper ephemera so I maybe spent 30 minutes this whole week packing, so that’s cool. I don’t mind having sheet music and bumper stickers and stuff in the $15-$19 dollar range because they are easy to ship, but I’d like it if they sold in addition to the more expensive stuff.
Overall feeling? Meh.
Thanks all. I’m just not quite there yet, I think. However, I am rolling back on the “shower as soon as you get home” which has been great for my mental health, and I’m feeling more comfortable going to thrift stores. I haven’t actively scavenged in months from a thrift, and I found a TI 84 CE for a couple bucks this week, so I’m calling that a win.
Thanks!
Items in Shop: 776
Items Sold on Ebay: 7
Items Sold on Facebook: 1 (However, I’m looking at my sold’s app and I think I have some FB’s Marked as Ebays)
Gross Sales: $189
COGS: $10
Net Sales, minus FVF: $179
Building Update: I sucked, wasted a week of time. Still waiting on the bank to give me an answer on if they’ll fund the physical building or not.
Ugh. I’m in a rut. I told my therapist all I want to do is sell china on the internet, and it seems like all I’m doing is not selling china on the internet. I am moving out of the office and into a storage unit. I decided to break ties with amazon and ebay just isn’t making enough money to pay for the office and building payments. So the plan is to store inventory and pack out of the storage unit (saving $750 a month) and then working out of my house to list items (ugh). I picked up a side gig which should net about $400 a month, but it’s 1099 so not only am I going to be paying the taxes, but I’ll also be making just enough that I’ll loose medicaid. However, I’m being trained to a higher position, so eventually I’ll be making $700 net, and it’s only on Saturdays.
listperfectly is great, but I cancelled my supscription after I listed all my stuff to FBM. Facebook was slow last week and it took me like 3 hours to renew my listings. I think i’ve sold maybe 10 or 12 items on FB since I subscribed, which are sales I wouldn’t have had otherwise. Everything was over 6 months old, which was cool. Listperfectly apparently prorates how long your subscribed, so I think I’ll resubscribe in a month to make new listings then cancel again, because the first week I had all new listings my sales were great on FB.
I just feel like i’m in a rut. We’re on month 4 of grandma moving in and she has 2 surgeries this month (6 appointments!) so I’m definitely finding myself away from ebay and trying to balance caring for 2 different people. I’m listing now, and hoping to finally break 800 listings tonight.
Seller update looks great, premium/anchor bump is coming at right the right year.
Things will get better. But right now kind of blows.
Update on this- I listed about 785 listings from Sunday to Saturday this week on FB. My biggest hiccup is that even though FB says you can list up to 150 a day, it would often crash around the 100 mark. My listing slowed down throughout the week to about 75 an hour instead of the 120 when I was excited for my new toy (lol). Throughout the week, I’ve made 8 sales on FBM, but they all averaged to be $20 items. However, everything that sold has been on Ebay for at least 4 months with no bites. I probably have about 10 hours sunk into this project, but now on Saturdays I can go through and spend about an hour a week “renewing” posts. I think this will take me an hour, as long as I trigger the beautiful “renew posts” button on FB. If I sell 25 $20 items each “cycle” before my posts stop renewing, on FB, that’s $500. Seller fees are 5%, so I’d walk away with $475 for about 15 hours of work each go that I didn’t have before Listperfectly. So, minus the $50 fee a month (or $62 a period) is $413, or $27.50 an hour for crossposting that I otherwise wouldn’t have seen if I listed on FB alone. I’d like the price per item to go up, but I had a lot of “easy packing but low dollar” sales this week.
Also, just to build on the thought that I could be listing on ebay with this 15 hours of time instead of FB, I tended to work after I got home from the day, and not when I was in my storage office taking pictures. This made the work hours outside of what I normally do, not instead of. I try not to stay in the office after 7:30 because I have to go home and make dinner for my grandmother, but I can work on crossposting at night after everything’s settled down. Between now and somewhere round June or July I have double payments- office rent and slab loan payments before the building is built, so if I can count on some extra income, I’ll take it. Everything will be so much easier once the building is built- I’ll be going from about $820ish a month in overhead (yikes) to $390 a month loan payments between the building and the slab, and I’ll actually be adding value to my property.
Re: Questions- I’ve answered all my questions, but it seems like when someone responds to say thanks or whatever, even if I mark it answered, it just stays there. There’s some things I just have to ignore. Though, I’d love it if I could get those 500 listings with reccommended item specifics off my dashboard.
Hi, not Chicago but Central Illinois. Hows the goodwill bin situation in Chi town? I’ve been to the ones in kansas city, st louis, and indianapolis, but I’ll have the chance to go to chicago next time my girlfriend and I see her parents. She’s from Vernon Hills
LOL, it was a scary moment! I love that their first response is to send a letter that was like”we’re gonna send you to collections if you don’t pay us right now!”. All is good now.
“Buyer won’t see the “Contact Seller” button on your Questions and Answers page.” is the quote. sorry it got jumbled
Hey team,
if you go below the blocked buyer list, there’s a toggle you can switch to have them not contact you. It reads
”

<input class=”switch__control” role=”switch” checked=”checked” name=”doNotAllowBlockedBuyerToContact” type=”checkbox” aria-labelledby=”app-page-form-label-3 app-page-form-secondary-label-3″ />

Don’t allow blocked buyers to contact meBuyer won’t see the “Contact Seller” button on your Questions and Answers page.” I’m assuming this stops messages, because he didn’t respond to me, but he did “deny” the revision request. oops. lol.
