What a week, I’ve been useless. I had to get my wisdom teeth taken out this week and got my first late shipment because of the surgery. Moved shipping from 1 day handling to 3 day and I haven’t sold anything since Friday. Rough.

Have been doing well on sourcing. Bought out 45 boxes of vintage goods from an 85 year old’s estate for $330 including truck fees. Because of the wisdom teeth I haven’t been able to go through more than a couple boxes, but I have $300 in 2 boxes of vintage heels alone, so I’m not super concerned about it, it’s not the highest ROI compared to some other finds, but it’s a lot of my type of stuff and gives me a bit of stock to source over the next few weeks.
So I’m very lucky that with getting this new office space I can redesign my shelving and totes system. I have muscle racks and clear totes. I canabalized 12 sets of muscle rack rivet shelfing to make 9 units so that I have 6-7 shelves per unit. top 4 shelves are smaller for glasswear and single items, then a row of totes, a row of medium sized items, and another row of totes. The totes are clear and everything that goes in them goes in a clear polymailer first for storage ( I LOVE these. they were 200 for 20 bucks for like a 13×15 i think, so they fit everything I need for stuff that goes in totes). Right now we are in the dreded organizing and labeling phase, so I only have 1 shelf full and organized, but it’s so nice to see something with a shelf or bin number in the listing that sold and I know right away where it is coming from
Haven’t heard of Vendoo, but I’m looking for something to crosspost from Ebay to Etsy on. I’ll check it out. Sixbit looked good, but I think you had to have the mid tier to do crossposting and I just don’t have the sales yet to justify it.
I def agree with you that Indiana put out some great amber pieces. I’m looking at older depression glass ( I actually have a true amber cream and sugar madrid that isnt listed) and the color isn’t even close. I’m looking at replacements and I can’t find any depression glass labeled canary yellow at all, so I think the next step is heading to the library for a depression glass book. Thanks so much!
Not my listing, but this is what I identify amber as. Thoughts? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Antique-Depression-Glass-Amber-Federal-Madrid-Cup-And-Saucer-Set-Of-4/193546317762?hash=item2d10426fc2:g:lb4AAOSwAOVdRbRh
For sure!
I kept up FBA when I was in vermont and it was nice to be able to ship from anywhere, but Ebay’s definitely my first love.
I grew up on 5 acres in the mojave (JT) and it was a really good size. Gives you a big house, plenty of storage space, the works.
Watch out if the roads are maintained by the county. Ours werent and while my grandpa was alive he drug the roads, but after he died with no one to keep it up its impossible to get to my grandma’s house without 4 wheel drive.
For my light-hearted stuff, I listen to the daily show with trevor noah: ears edition.
Lately I’ve been listening to episodes from 2018, a simpler time, if you will.
I recently got promoted at my retail job where I moonlight which involved counting the drawers down for 2 hours at the end of the night, and I can usually get through a couple SL. It makes me feel like I’m being more productive then working a (hopefully) temporary retail job.
Just to clarify, liquidated in May 2019
Hi, Everyone!
Yearly update- I’d like to be more active, but it seems like I just pop in every year to give an update.
In may I liquidated everything to move to Vermont to work in theatre. Discovered I hated it (thanks, 4 years of college)
Everything got paid off, I survived. Yay!
Moved back to my college town/ where my mom lives now and after a few full times and part times discovered I’m much happier flipping rollerblades and hankerchiefs then organizing mass chaos in theatre.
Lucky for me, since all this covid started the entire theatre industry shut down, but I’m still here on Amazon, Ebay, and looking to crosspost to Etsy for 3rd/4th quarter.
Last week I took out a capital loan of $3000 to rent warehouse space, ramp up inventory, and move out of my house with Ebay. Loving it so far, this week has been slow because there isn’t wifi at the warehouse, but that gets put in tomorrow. Also waiting for some shelves to be delivered at the end of the month, so the space just has everything in totes and flats on the floor, which is hectic.
I’m a big fan of auctions, but with the COVID situation and the mask debate, I’ve chosen to move to online only auctions for the forseeable future. Picked up from 3 this week, and the plan is to pick up as much as I can for as little as possible in the next 2 months and be turning a profit by month 3.
Sellthrough rate is up to 12% a month right now, but most things aren’t overly long tail.
With the expansion I’m able to move from my 200 item storage in my house to about 3k max capacity at the new space.
Definitely my biggest gamble lately, but the loans cheap (only paying a couple hundred interest over a few years) so I think it’s worth the gamble. Plus the loan included expanses for 3 months for the new space so I have some breathing room.
Listening several times a week, and learning new things every day. Thanks for the community, its great to be a part of!
No, I’m still in school. I have about 3 months left till graduation. Thanks to my emergency fund, I have just enough cash right now to pay rent through the end of my lease in May. Now it’s just time to make money to afford everything else!
Thanks all for the responses! I really appreciate the help
Just to clarify, When I said $200, I meant that’s what GoDaddy is saying my quarterly taxes are so far this year.
Hello, Trash Elves!
It’s two years later, and I’m still here. I branched out to Amazon FBA for books at the beginning of January. Additionally, I’ve now accidentally moved to be full time. I’ve lost my previous financial support and am paying rent, tuition, and life expenses completely on Ebay, Amazon, and FB Marketplace at this point. I started using Godaddy bookkepping and am keeping track of mileage. The new goal (other than survive the next 5 months) is to pay off about $3000 in student loan debt before it starts incurring interest in January.
Hey all! Yeah, college life flipping is interesting. We do have a mail room that UPS, Fedex, and USPS pickup from daily, so that makes things super convenient.
Jay, the friend reaction is overall positive. I’m known as the person that knows how to get nearly anything for cheap, so that is helpful with friends. My favorite reaction was “This is Lauren. If you are looking for anything, go to her. If she doesn’t already have it for sale on Ebay, she knows where to get it.”
