Amatino – thanks & yes I’d love to play along.
Hi Punk – we’re apparently twinsies.
My listings so far this year by week:
Week 1: 42
Week 2: 38
Week 3: 8
Week 4: 27
Week 5: 120
Week 6: 45
Week 7: 93
Week 8: 28 so far(so that’s 401 so far this year)
P.S. I used to do a lot of scrapbooking and in the scrapbooking forums we’d have similar type motivation thread of how many pages we finished. This sort of thing helps me to get more done. Thanks!

With respect to the rotation of the photos: Sometimes I think is just how you are holding the phone – like what angle you are holding it at – if you do it perfectly horizontal then it gets wonky but if you hold it at a slight angle then the right side usually comes up better – even though if you were to photograph something square shaped from above it would be better to do it the perfectly horizontal so the square would actually look square.
I agree on the iphone 7 working better with the ebay app.
Sidenote – we just bought a refurbished iphone 7 on ebay and it works great.
I’ve sold cashmere sweater lots and I never even thought about removing the buttons; and I do remove buttons from suit coats and have thrown away the suits.
So, I think in the future I’ll take a look at the buttons on the sweaters & cut and sell them separately if they are interesting. And I’ll try the wool thing too – I can’t imagine how many suit coats I’ve just thrown away after removing the buttons.
Thanks!
The ebay listing said the shoes were made from alligator, but I knew it was a crock.
Always trust a glue salesman, they tend to stick to their word.
The scavenger stopped selling amps on ebay because they didn’t achieve sufficient volume of sales.
Saleman: Would you like to buy a pocket calculator?
Customer: No, I already know how many pockets I have.Happy Friday Scavengers.
02/23/2018 at 8:28 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 348: Acknowledge When Hard Work Pays Off #33785So I know that we do the numbers counts on Sunday on this forum, but on my ebay calendar at my office where my store room is, I usually do the numbers on Friday. Last year I was doing about $700 a week pretty consistently. But the first part of this year I’ve only been doing about $500 a week. This past week was my best so far in 2018 at $1,411. Yay!
I feel like I’m going to learn so much here on the forums, and that I’m already learning so much more than just listening to the podcast and watching other random you tube videos. Thank you!
02/22/2018 at 8:03 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 343: Our Business = Little Things Every Day #337351. Getting Stuff Done: I think so much of how people are motivated to get things done has to do with personality type. I think everyone should know where they fall on the Meyer-Briggs test. Another interesting approach to personality types is Gretchen Rubin’s Four Tendencies personality types. So some people are going to be motivating by breaking projects down into steps and others aren’t depending on their personality type. I do think that having different personalities working on the same project can be challenging but also more effective than just one type of person – it’s just a matter of figuring out everyone’s strengths and weaknesses etc.
2. Rich People Scavengers: We have a couple of (dreaded air quotes) “rich” friends who do the reselling thing on a much higher level than we do – one resells houses and motorcycles and the other one resells airplanes. I think it is pretty similar to what we do here on ebay but just on a larger scale. It is the same mental process.
3. Tax Loopholes: My dad was super frugal and smart. He used to buy a cow and sell a cow every year for the sole purpose of taking advantage of a tax thing. I never saw any cows so I don’t actually know whether they were actual cows or just cows on paper. On the other hand, we are very cautious with taxes and would rather pay a little more in taxes and avoid an audit.
4. Buttons: For a while I was doing well with cutting buttons off men’s suit coat blazers that I was purchasing for $1 each and selling them, but for whatever reason they stopped selling. Brands I liked when I was doing that were Ralph Lauren, Brooks Brothers, and, oddly enough, Stafford.
5. “Our own corporate policy”: I really liked hearing this, I think it is good to have systems and policies and ways of handling certain situations in ebay selling. I think it makes for easier decision making and helps to avoid getting your feelings hurt over grumpy sellers and other problems.
02/22/2018 at 7:00 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 344: Decluttering and Auction Cravings #337321. Scavenger Math: Starting in 1982 when I was 12 years old and lived in Bangor, Maine, I earned money babysitting then future musician Howie Day (link to his song Collide: https://youtu.be/ca9ub9rpNK4 ) and other neighborhood kids at $2.00 per hour and saved $1200 to buy my first car when I turned 15. Drove the car for a few years and sold it for $1,200. Bought my second car, a VW, for $400, drove that for a couple years and then sold it for $400. That’s right, all of the money I spent on my first two cars I totally got back. Sadly, I haven’t been able to duplicate that since. Currently, I drive a minivan that is as old as my daughter and when she gets her license in a year or so, we just might give it to her.
2. Vintage Postcards: So before I was an ebay seller, I did scrapbooking and family history and sometimes I would buy old postcards to use in my scrapbooks. Once a way long time ago, I bought a postcard of where I live now in St. Petersburg, Florida because it was sent by someone from my childhood hometown, South Dartmouth, Mass. Later I showed my aunt who recognized the person who sent the postcard as the doctor who delivered her!
3. Insane Clown Posse: First I’m glad you found the hats and are selling them. But, Ok, so clown thing sort of makes me sad because I can’t hear about that group, ICP, without thinking about this tragic case in Tampa that happened about 20 years ago involving Valessa Robinson in which the bad stuff I think happened to the soundtrack of that group. So sad. And on top of that, my husband’s nephew who is about 20 years old now has become a hobo clown, which is sort of like a crustee or like this Portlandia Gutter Punk thing (link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYIqBG1v8BY ) but now he has become a full on traveling hobo clown complete with tattooed clown makeup all over his beautiful, young face. I watch him on instagram and just hope that he is ok.
4. Meal Prepping: We use mason jars for salads – just google or search you tube for “mason jar salad” and you will find tons of ideas.
5. Cheap Cheese: We think Trader Joes has good prices on cheese – do you think so too?
6. Ghosts: Are real. 😉
I have watched a bunch of you tube videos. They are ok. I sort of feel like a lot of you tubers are doing it to get followers, you tube ad money, and the turn their “expertise” into a membership service. For my time, the scavenger life podcast and this forum is tons more useful.

We have 3 ebay accounts, this is my husband’s account. Again, these sales are not necessarily within the last week, just some highlights of our better sales on that account.
DAIRI womens blouse. I had never seen or heard of this brand before, I just knew it was special when I saw / felt it in the store. It was so soft. I wore it a couple times before I sold it and I wanted to keep it but thought I’d better sell it instead. I’ve been doing ebay for a little over a year and a half now and over that time I’ve learned to identify higher end clothing by the way the tags look and the fabric feel, so I can usually just know now when something is special. This sold for $89.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/142617934304WINTER KATE BY NICOLE RITCHIE silk jacket: This was another brand I’d never heard of but just knew it felt special when I saw and felt it in the thrift store. Often times, I just sort of run my hands down a row of clothing and stop when I feel something good. This sold for $99.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/142617936192DINNER IS SERVED – WAITER PAINTED DISHES: These just seemed goofy and weird enough to sell and they did for $39.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/142578197810LENOX DISHES: These felt special because they had little raised bumps around the edges. 13 saucers sold for $39 and I was so happy when the buyer said they all arrived intact.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/142578251376ST. JOHN: I luckily seem to be a St. John magnet, I find it all the time – which makes my aunt crazy because she lives in my town and taught me how to do ebay and she never finds it. These santana knit pants sold for $44.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/142671783895RALPH LAUREN PILLOW SHAMS: I have just started looking in the linens. I can’t believe how much these pillow cases sold for: $59! That seems so crazy but super wonderful, now I’m on the lookout for more.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/142654331747LULAROE: I pick up Lularoe less and less but if you find something with a really cool design that is in new condition and is on the bigger side of the sizes, get it. These tall and curvy bumblebee leggings sold for $36
https://www.ebay.com/itm/142658864180BODEN: This is another brand that does consistently well, not super great but usually within the $25-$30 range. Once you get used to their colors and patterns it is pretty easy to spot. This skirt sold for $30

LOUDMOUTH GOLF PANTS: I have a lot of quick and good sales with a brand called LOUDMOUTH which is obnoxiously tacky prints on golf pants and shorts. These sold for $59:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/162876651007LOT OF NIKE MENS GOLF SHORTS: I found these at the goodwill outlet and normally wouldn’t have picked them up but there were 6 pairs of what looked like brand new golf shorts. The same guy ended up buying all 6 pairs. This lot of 3 pairs sold for $45:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/162875036291JOHNNY WAS: If you see this brand of women’s clothing, pick it up. It always sells fast and for good money. This slip of a dress sold for $59:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/162827272911PRAIRIE UNDERGROUND: This is another brand of women’s clothing that sells fast and for good money. This dress sold for $49
https://www.ebay.com/itm/162816108080DANSK SUMMERHOUSE SILVERWARE: I bought this for $1 and sold it quickly for $40. Happy day.

02/22/2018 at 10:41 am in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Bose speakers, Lucchese boots, Anri chess set, Mailbox, Tension pole lamp #33654I just realized I could click the links to see the items – this is amazing! I feel like I’m going to learn so much from this forum. Thanks! and I’ll be sure to put in my links in the future.
I’m new to this forum but a long time listener of the podcast.
I too need listing motivation.
I try to list 100 things a week, most of my listing tends to be over the weekend but I’m trying to figure out how to incorporate listing into my (already busy) weekday routine.
I got 18 things photographed & listed this morning.
