Eve – that is so interesting – thanks for posting.
P.S. Jay said “It is a shame that eBay doesn’t have a subscription level between Premiere (1000 items) and Anchor (10,000 items).” — Yes, yes, yes, I totally agree. I can’t believe they put in the other 2 new levels and didn’t do one for like 3000 or 5000 items. So weird.
I once had a great result selling a St. John item on auction but for the most part I think auctions for clothing sell at or near the starting price.
I’m getting ready to do an experiment with selling clothing lots and I’m going to do some of them as auctions. I’ll report back on this after a couple weeks.
1. If you haven’t started watching it, read the book first. The book is really good an is a quick read.
2. I think it is a Hulu exclusive – there is a movie but it is different that the tv show on Hulu. I’d recommend getting Hulu just for this show – I think think they have a thing where you can get a trial month for free (or at least they did when I signed up) and then it is like 7.99 a month or $13 a month for no commercials. I’m normally against monthly charges but this one seems reasonable and valuable to me.
3. The show is done so well. Like every detail. Good stuff.
4. All the terrible stuff that goes on is based on things that have actually happened or is still happening now, the author just mashes them up into dystopian fiction.
5. The actress who plays the main character grew up in Scientology – so that sort of fascinates me – I wonder what her perspectives are on the forced religion in the story and how that jibes with her real life experience of religion. Plus, the actress, Elisabeth Moss was in the like best ever migraine headache medicine commercial (not kidding) – I get migraines & I totally remember this commercial from I think the 90s – here’s a link: https://youtu.be/LR4MNqNlRbE
6. It is sort of fun to be obsessed with a show for a while.
Dead Cat Eyes. Ok that is super funny.
I also had a week of crazytown buyers or wannabe buyers. Down here in Florida the barometric pressure has been off and I know that there have been storms other parts of the country, maybe its making everyone go insane this week.

I’m getting over a long cold. I hope to pick things up this week.
Jay – I haven’t had any problems on Poshmark with people getting the shipments. The only complaints I have with Poshmark are that the sales on Posh only really happen when you are actively sharing etc. and that the offers are pretty lowball (so you need to mark your stuff up).
(I did have the blackhole New Jersey problem on eBay when someone hacked into my account and purchased as though they were me and sent it there – in the end it got resolved & I got my money back.)
There are plenty of supermarkets in the Keys – maybe just do pit stops there instead of restaurants and get their pre-made stuff.
Jay’s question: Do you get paid right away, or do you wait till the buyer receives the item and approves it? Yep, you have to wait until the buyer gets it and accepts it which usually takes a couple of days.
Poshmark is something I am interested in. Please let me know how it goes:
1) How long does it take to cross-list?
Like 2 minutes or less, very quick and simple, its just copying and pasting.2) Men’s, Women’s, or Both?
Both.3) How fast do items seem to sell?
It depends. The big downside to Poshmark is you have to do sharing and following etc., the more followers you have, the more likely people will find your stuff; the other downside is that I think the fees are a little more than eBay. The upsides are no returns, no listing fees, selling fees are straightforward – ie. easy to figure out how much they are, and shipping is extra and is paid by the buyer.P.S. I started cross posting certain brands from ebay to Poshmark. I haven’t been listing much on Poshmark, but when I did the cross posts it seemed to make me get some sales. I’m just going to cross post by a few particular brands so that when that brand sells I’ll know to take down the duplicate listing. I’ll let you know how that goes.
I did 94 listings from April 29 – May 5
April 29 – May 5
Total Items in Stores: 955 + 560 + 260 + 1077 = 2,852
Items Sold: 31 + 24 + 24 + 7 = 86
Total $ Sales: $701 + $323 + $270 + 90 = $1,384
High Price: $178 Carolina Herrera Dress, $61 Eileen Fisher Dress
Average Price: $16.09
Total Spent: $200
Returns: 4 (all had free returns but 3 were INAD also but because it didn’t fit! which makes no sense)
Listed 93
Notes: I had a bad cold this past week so I feel a little run down and pessimistic, although my numbers were good for me this past week so I should probably just feel good about it. I guess I’m weirded out by having great weekends and then Tuesdays and Thursdays will be like no sales at all, it just seems so random. The free returns thing has me a little bummed out, my husband keeps telling me to switch it back to buyer pays for returns – he is flabbergasted about the free returns thing, but I’m going to stick it out and see how it goes. I did have a really good sale this week, it was an auction on a designer dress, so having the auction go up high was kind of fun to watch. I’m just hoping the buyer likes it and keeps it. I met with a fellow ebayer friend this week, he does consignment stuff on ebay and he couldn’t believe that I do so many clothes listings. Having my daughter helping with the photos really helps me to go fast when I’m listing. I still haven’t really broken out of clothes and into vintage stuff, which was sort of my goal for this year; I still mostly do clothes. So ho hum, I’ll get out of my funk when this cold is completely gone.
Meantime, I’m very thankful for the podcast & this community.I had that on something today that was sold today.
I had a item not as described today – Under Armor gym shorts – after the purchase & about an hour after shipping I got this weird message from the buyer that he wanted me to make sure to pack carefully and put it in bubble wrap and a box. We are talking gym shorts. I wrote to the buyer that I sent them in a polymailer and that they’d already gone out. But then I got that feeling that this buyer is for sure going to have a problem. These were gym shorts that looked like they were new without tags but I listed them as gently used just to be safe. So, no surprise, today I got a note that they were not as described and a bunch of the threads were loose – they were not loose when they left me. I really think that the buyer changed his mind after he purchased and then when he got them he ripped a couple of threads so they looked loose. I know I’ve missed things before, but these shorts were in new condition. But I feel like I don’t have any way to fight this situation. So I accepted the refund and sent the free return postage to the buyer. I guess I figure, I’d rather pay the $3 to have the buyer at least not get to keep them. I’m trying to go with the flow and not worry and offer free shipping and free returns. But, it makes me feel like I’m in a position of weakness. I’m feel like a bit of a grumpy seller about this whole issue – not letting it stop me from selling on ebay or anything like that – just a little disappointed and annoyed about this particular issue because with selling clothing I predict this is going to be a problem over and over in the future. Bah Humbug. (This is the internet so don’t take my attitude seriously – it is said with a bit of a smirk and an annoyed eye roll and then back to business).
