Pros & Cons with respect to setting up a teenager’s account:
Ebay: My teenage daughter has been asking to start an ebay store. While I’m excited about her wanting to do this, I’ve been kind of hesitant about setting her up with an ebay store because I’d like to keep her pay pal separate from mine and I just think it is going to take a while to set everything up; lame excuse, but that’s sort of the thing holding me back. Plus I feel like the buyers on ebay can be grumpier than the ones on Poshmark and I don’t want people to be grumpy at my daughter. The other reason is that I’d really just like for her to do photography for me on ebay and I’d just pay her, but she doesn’t seem interested in that arrangement. Finally, I think that there is a lot to learn with regard to shipping that seems a little overwhelming.
Poshmark: To keep things easy as she is getting started, tonight I set her up with a Poshmark account of her own and she’s already listed 4 things. One nice thing about Poshmark is that you don’t have to set up a Pay Pal account or enter your bank or credit card information. You can just have them send you a check when you have money in your balance. I think this is going to be easier for now for her. I also think because it is social she’ll like it more. Shipping is flat rate for everything on Poshmark under 5 pounds (I wish ebay had something more like this – or some kind of discount for clothing that weighed under 2 so that jeans, sweaters and jackets could go cheaper).
Welcome! (I am jealous of your Colorado address – my dream is to retire there someday).
My kids are 14 and 16 now. When I first started my daughter would go thrifting with me and help with photography and shipping but then she lost interest. My son has also helped with photography but not recently. I’ve offered each of them to do photography for me and I’d pay them $1 per item but so far they haven’t taken me up on it. A couple of weeks ago my daughter said she wanted to open her own eBay store but hasn’t mentioned it since. If she did, I think we’d want to set up her own pay pal account. I’d like to see them both learn how to do this. I think that as they get older and start actually having crappy part time jobs then it will become more obvious to them why doing ebay is a good idea.
Pryex Bowls: So today I’m listing about 10 of my vintage Pyrex bowls. Instead of listing the matching ones together (I didn’t have complete / full sets of anything), I listed them separately so I wouldn’t have to ship them together. I recently had some porcelain nesting canisters break when I shipped them inside each other even though I did the floating box thing.
So, other than the floating box method, any other tips / tricks for shipping Pyrex bowls?
Thanks!
Sonia – I agree – if you have a way to transport and store furniture – it seemed like the best deal.
I wasn’t able to get into seller’s hub last night but I was able to do listings.
Feb 25 – March 3, 2018
(I have 3 ebay accounts and a poshmark account)
Total Items in Store: 882 + 512 + 195 + 1051 = 2,640
Items Sold: 42 + 10 + 10 + 5 = 67
Cost of Items Sold: estimated $250
Total Sales: $652 + $181 + $362 + 66 = $1,261.00Highest Price Sold: $80.00 Lilly Pulitzer Dress & $65.00 Exclusively Misook Dress
Average Price Sold: $18.82
Returns: none
Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $ 70
Number of items listed this week: 48This past week I went to Goodwill and another local thrift store a couple times. I also went to a new to me auction but didn’t buy anything. I try to list 100 items a week but only listed 48. I’m feeling a little burned out on clothing but then I go to the thrift store and find St. John within minutes so it is hard to stop. I am trying to figure out where and how to source higher dollar vintage hard good items, next month I think I’ll try to buy my first table lot at the auction.

This past week I listed 48
Lately when I get offers from out of the country people, I get nervous because it says ship to the other country. I usually counter offer and put in the note “ship using ebay’s global shipping program.”
I guess I’m confused about whether the ship to another country means that the buyer is asking me to ship directly or does the make an offer thing just auto fill the ship to place.
Any ideas / clarifications? Thanks!
I had a pretty good week and made about $1,200.00. Anytime I’m doing over $700 a week I feel pretty good.
I ended up with 45 for the day
Ok, I’ve switched over to Hulu and I’m watching an Irish show called Divorce. They had a series called Moone Boy which was also from Ireland and was super funny.
I’m at 27 listings so far which seems a bit slow but I’m going to keep on until I hit 50.
Ebay:
3 Fashion hacks: menswear for women; summer bags, color combo pink & red
Seller update: (I couldn’t find this on the ebay channels). Nicole State & Reezy Resells has video of the ebay meet up with Griff where they talk about the seller updates. The main point of the talk was structured data and the way that ebay is going to get better for the buyers and searching.
Ebay Radio: I haven’t listened for several months. I’m listening to the 3/1/18 episode: They are encouraging the free returns.
Saturday 3/3/18 You Tube Video Summaries:
Ralli Roots: They are a husband and wife reseller team who live near Tampa, FL.
The Perfect ebay flat lay – Giant Hanger: They DIY a big hanger for shirts – it is worth a watch if you sell clothing. I think I might try it. They got the idea from Side Hustle Pros.
What Sold on eBay: I’m glad to see more of these types of videos. They do free shipping and they do a lot of clothing. They do a lot of garage sales and thrift stores.
Vlog / She almost got arrested at goodwill: A day in the life type thrifting video. Well lit and fun. This time they compare Salvation Army to Goodwill.
Saturday 3/3/18 You Tube Video Summaries:
Lindey Glenn: On her “Weekly Live Q&A” she discussed the seller update and said that she didn’t think the changes were a big deal. She said that most people are worried about the free returns but that she thought people were misunderstanding this, that you could still be top rated and not offer the free returns; the free returns would give you the top rated plus benefits. She thought that this would just be about a $35 difference to her per month so she didn’t think it was too bad. She said that she would not be offering free returns on jeans because most of the time they are over 1 pound and go priority. She said you can pick and choose with the free returns. She said that after the change if she noticed a dramatic dip in her sales, only then would she consider the free returns for first class only. She was also disappointed that there was no store level created between premium and anchor. She also said that she’s had a big problem with non paying buyers lately. She said she might switch away from best offer to avoid the non paying buyer problem in the future. She also predicts that a lot of ebay sellers who do clothing will switch to Poshmark where the fee structure seems easier to understand even though it is higher at 20%; but the work seems more than ebay. She also said she was considering Mercari. She had a nice shipping table in the background that she got for $80.
