I found a Reddit thread from 5 years ago. According to the thread postal carrier do not get a bonus or handling fee; however, once a year a package count is conducted and the number of packages picked up during that week by Rural Carriers does have an effect on their compensation.
Do postal workers get a little extra for picking up packages from my home?
byu/BinarySolar inUSPSIt may also depend on whether it’s a contractor vs postal employee perhaps.
Gargolfer – that’s good to know about the handling fee paid to postal workers. I had heard something once about mailing routes with resellers being “high value” routes but I wasn’t sure why. I think you just explained it. I feel better. 🙂
I usually leave a few that fit in my mailbox for the postal carrier to pick up. Any more than 4 packages, I’ll just take them to the post office. If any are too big for the mailbox, I take them all to the post office. But this time of year I don’t know if I should even be putting out the small packages on days when there are only 2 or 3.
32 listings this week.
I just noticed the belly dancer photos in this thread from October. I don’t know how I missed those pictures – it must have been one of the times I was swamped with work. Cool photos and great job creating the costumes!
Tam, Thank you for your post. I really feel for the USPS workers this season
I have a question maybe you can answer. I often leave smaller packages for my postal carrier to pick up but I feel guilty doing so during the holidays when I know they are probably behind. Do you know, are postal carriers annoyed/overwhelmed when they have to pick up packages along their route during the holidays?
Since this happens every day, FedEx and Post Office just exchange each other’s packages when Fed Ex does their routine drop off / pick ups at the post office. It’s quite possible Fed Ex picked it up and it might start tracking soon. But, given it’s 2020 and all shipping companies are in in chaos, who knows. I’d give it a few days and check Fed Ex tracking.
27 listed this week. I slowed down quite a bit from the prior two weeks. Dog had surgery to repair his ACL so I’m pretty much sitting as much as possible because the more I get up to photograph, put away inventory, etc. the more he gets up and walks around to follow me. I want him to rest and recuperate as much as possible.
I’m signed up for the weekly payout with the deposit due to hit my bank account today, Dec 2nd. I just checked and it is in my bank acct so it isn’t everyone. Hopefully those affected will get their money today. I can just imagine the storm of comments being left in Ebay’s forum and FB page.
64 listings for me. 0 for the challenge.
I’ve been listing as much as possible, trying to get my active listings up so I can make a livable wage from reselling. Fortunately I had a few great estate sale and garage sale finds a month ago that have helped my sales figures. Unfortunately, it’s too Covid-y around these parts to go out thrifting for awhile. I do have some old albeit unexciting death piles that will keep me busy for awhile.
Not reselling related but wanted to share with Ryan in case she hasn’t watched it yet, last night I binged Stay Here on Netflix. A designer and marketer visit unique Airbnb type properties, remodel & stage them and share marketing and hosting tips with the owners to increase occupancy and rental income. The first episode really hooked me in because it was a houseboat. My one complaint is they don’t go back and tell us how much the owner was able to increase their actual rental income, they only share projections.
Hooray! I rarely win the week. 🙂
42 listings for me over the past week. Despite that, sales have been sloooooow. Nothing I can do about it but to keep on listing. Have a productive week, y’all!
11/23/2020 at 9:27 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 489: Business = Resource Management Video Game #83625I started back full time on eBay half way thru this week after a 3 year hiatus at an outside job and then a one week vacation. I organized a bunch of areas in my eBay space and got 42 new listings up but sales were pretty soft. This week I’ll put in more hours and am working on creating a daily routine for myself. The last time I attempted to earn a living solely from eBay I failed because I wasn’t focused and I was listing maybe a few items a day. You can’t make X amount a day reselling when only listing a fraction of X.
My best sale this month has been a NWT Lilly Pulitzer Faux Fur Vest I bought at an epic estate sale for $10 and sold within a few days for $175. The 2nd best was a pair of NWT Trina Turk Jacquard pants I bought for $8 and sold for $79.99. Both brands are popular among Southern Belles here in the South but they can be hit or miss to resell. I was fortunate that both items are still current and sought after.
Mike, Thanks! I had not heard that. Given the current economic climate, I should go thru all of the gift cards in my wallet and spend them ASAP. There’s no telling what business will be next.
Thanks for the response. That is a relief and I’m glad it worked out!
