I think they started doing it this week. You enter the title and Ebay automatically enters what they think the item specifics are into the appropriate fields. Before, it would make suggestions and you clicked on them if you wanted them. The problem I see this causing is if you overlook one of the fields, it may contain incorrect info since Ebay auto-populated that field with what their software thought was correct. And that could lead to INAD.
Jersey Mike’s all the way! My husband and I find excuses to go to the town 40 miles away so we can stop at Jersey Mike’s. Whenever we take road trips, we look for a Jersey Mikes along the route. Whatever you order, have it prepared “Mike’s Way.” You won’t be disappointed!
Dang – I need a Jersey Mike’s now.08/08/2019 at 11:04 am in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Clock radio, Microphone, Dual Turntable, Pana-Vue, Zippo wicks, Reel tapes, DVD VCR Combo #66057I have a pet sitter coming to the house, which means I’ve been cleaning my embarrassment of an ebay room. Having a less cluttered work space is helping motivate me to list as a clean. Or maybe I’m putting off the cleaning by listing? Anway, all these listings must be helping my store’s visibility because after my worst ebay month ever, I’ve seen a spike in sales the last week.
Best sales:
NWT Nanette Lepore swimsuit. Paid $5 sold for $49.99. Caution: swimsuits have an insanely high rate of return. Partly due to most manufacturers sizing down on swimsuits. A size 8 woman could wear a size 8 dress, but would be a size 10 in most swimsuits. https://www.ebay.com/itm/254265829689NIP Creative Memories photo album. Paid $5 sold for $42. Certain size albums I guess are no longer made so there is good demand for certain ones.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/254116703586Set of Pickleball Paddles and balls. The sport seems to be sweeping the more active of the baby boom generation. Retail arbitraged these when the sport first got popular a few years ago and I sold a bunch right away because stores weren’t carrying the equipment. The last finally sold this week after sitting forever. Paid $9.99, sold $34.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/264221985045I’ve often seen fellow scavengers lamenting the ever increasing prices at Goodwill. I thought I was the lucky one but a few weeks ago my Goodwill started putting price tags on every single individual clothing item, which tells me they are planning on moving away from flat pricing (i.e. all dresses $6.99, all pants $5.99, etc) and will price based on what they think the brand is worth (Insert groan and eye roll here). I wonder if they will end up paying more in labor costs to have someone ticket & price each item individually than they will make by pricing some items more than the standard flat rate price. This could finally spell the end of my time thrifting the local GW. A few years ago I went there almost daily, now I go maybe once a quarter.
If I see clothes hanging over the racks instead of on a hanger, or if an item is falling off of it’s hanger I think it’s good thrifting karma to hang it up correctly. I guess I’m thinking if I take care of the thrift store, the thrift store will take care of me. 🙂 I don’t pick up every clothing item I come across thats on the ground anymore because that would quickly become a part time job but if it’s just a few items it can’t hurt to pick them up and hang them.
Preach! July was my least profitable month since I started seriously selling in 2014. I did have my store shut down for a week while I was on vacation but I’ve had it shut down before and didn’t suffer this badly. I can’t help but think that maybe Poshmark and ThreadUp have finally succeeded in taking a lion’s share of the used clothing market away.
After analyzing my sales, I’ve noticed that I sold more hard goods than clothing over the last few months despite a vast majority of my inventory being clothing. So it’s time for me to hit up more estate sales for vintage chotskies and ignore the clothing racks at the thrifts for awhile.
07/29/2019 at 10:20 am in reply to: What do I need for a beginner to take super high quality photos on a budget? #65526I use a white towel on a t.v. tray to photograph my smaller items. I clip the towel up to a shelf or else fling it over something large behind it. Works better than a sheet because no wrinkles to contend with. For larger items I photograph against one of my light beige walls in my house. Make sure you don’t have a bunch of junk in the background and your photos will already look better than many of the listings out there. Smart phones work great. I use an Iphone and I don’t bother fiddling with any of the settings. You may have to hold the camera in position for a few seconds as the phone automatically adjusts for lighting. I create an ebay listing on my laptop and then click “save for later”. Then I open up that listing in the ebay app on my iphone & add the photos directly from my phone and list the item from there. It’s simple. Don’t worry about spending money on a lot of equipment until you’ve sold for awhile and learn what works and doesn’t work for you and your space.

The GA Institute of Mental Health building has made a cameo in several films/shows now. It’s so foreboding looking.
Yes, a little old lady who loved to paint and had tons of those paint-project books painted it. She loved Bob Ross before Bob Ross was cool. Had his books all over her house.
Clothing brands that were hot sellers a year ago can be hard to unload now and vice versa. There are a million Youtube videos of people who sell clothing on ebay and Poshmark. Watch the most recent ones to get an idea of what sells but be careful because older videos will be outdated and will lead you astray. For example: Lularoe used to be hot – now you can’t give the stuff away. Michael Kors is another one. It’s best to just take your phone with you and search ebay Solds when checking brand names.
Some other things to consider when selling clothes: RETURNS! Clothing buyers are notorious for returns – although men’s clothing isn’t as bad as womens. Even if you list every conceivable measurement, you’ll get returns for fit. Also, because clothing is so plentiful, unless it’s a very rare sought after piece, any little flaw will make the clothing item pretty much unsaleable.
If the Indie movie had a well known celebrity wearing the item (whether that exact one or one identical) & you can find a screenshot of them wearing it that will bump up the price. Some people want to dress like celebrities.
I just had the opposite happen. I did not change any dimensions or weight and the listing is showing the buyer paid $20.05 for shipping yesterday and I’m being charged $60.60. WTF?! Obviously I’m going to find a cheaper way to send but what the heck is going on?
It could be that’s the look the manufacturer was going for. It doesn’t have any of the cool compartments on the inside like the antique writing slope but I think the box was really meant to mimic the look of something like that, rather than to actually be functional. I may use writing slope in my keywords. Thank you Mike!
I bought it more because I liked the primitive americana look it had rather than it being valuable. And the canadian geese, mallard duck and fish motifs seem to do well for me. A local artist painted it & I bought it cheap at her estate sale. Maybe I can get $50 or so out of it.Thank you!

The reason I decided it wasn’t a candle box (even though there was wax on the outside of the lid) is because the space between the lid and the front of the box gets too short maybe for a candle to fit. Measurements 14″ wide x 14.25″. Depth of the inside of the box at the front is only half inch and almost 2″ at the back.Meanwhile Bitcoin is back over $10K today. At one time I had 4 bitcoin but sold all but .75 of a coin off over the years. One part of me wants to hurry up and sell my 3/4th of a bitcoin but the other half says, “let it ride!”
Doublythumbs – thank you for posting a follow up link. I did a little research online yesterday to try to find out what ultimately happened but couldn’t find anything.
I’ve watched enough Hoarders marathons to scare me away from ever buying a hoarder house. The last marathon I watched was while I cleaned out my closet and dresser. I ended up getting rid of 75% of my clothes and it was so freeing! Those shows are great motivator for me when I have to clean or organize anything.
