True. You dont want to list jewelry/gold/silver without knowing what its worth. But you may get more on the free market than to sell to a dealer who needs to make a profit when he resells.

Yeah, I’m still unclear exactly what kid of items this is.
Again, some items are very brand dependent for their value. Some aren’t.
Do you have any issues selling gold/diamond/silver on eBay? This was a concern that Catmom has.
–If they’ve never sold online before, why do you think they’re worth $200?
–Do you think the brand matters when you sell them online? For some items, brand is very important. Some items are just important they;re well made.
Welcome. Don’t spend too much time on the backhouse stuff. It’ll work itself as you sell.
And Jay, just a side bar: “…just wide shots of trees and mountains” made Ansel Adams a very famous man
Ha! Agreed. And Paul Weston is famous for his close up photos of peppers.
Unfortunately Steve from Cleveland’s vacation photos from the 1980s wont be worth much if its just wide shots of trees. Anyone who’s sat through a vacation slideshow intuitively understands 🙂
It’s just the buyer’s personal opinion. I’d just say “please return for a refund”. That’s really all you can do.
Some buyers can use the “smell” excuse to return an item they just dont like.
Why not sell it on eBay? You’ll get more if you sell direct to a customer than selling it to a gold scrap or pawn shop.
Understood. If you’re selling $15 clothes, it’s going to be a grid no matter where you sell. Maybe you should try to scavenge for more valuable items?
If you’re selling your own art, Instagram and Etsy would be the place because it is more of a marketing platform.
What a fun find. Glad you saved them! Not an expert, but I would first take plenty of time to look through the slides.
–Was the guy a good photographer? Are you bored looking at them or excited?
–Are they just wide shots of trees and mountains? Or did he take close up photos of people and cars? Does it give you a sense of time/place?
The value will come in their historical and artistic merit.
I would love to sell on etsy and instagram!
Why? Just curious what the attraction is when it seems it takes so much more work to sell fewer items.

Not that I remember, but sometimes eBay is glitchy. Have lunch, log out, log back in, and try it again in an hour.

You should have walked over to say hi 🙂 I just thought you were really friendly people. We get some attention because people are excited about a building being renovated on Main Street.
Yes, property is cheap in Luray compared to Northern Virginia or Maryland. We get a stream of constant retirees who sell their townhouse for $650k, and buy a big property for $200k and live like kings. What we want are younger people who can work remotely to come out and help us re-build this community. Come on!
