Hi All,
I tried to use the Ebay App today and received this pop up ” We are sorry, but this version of the app is no longer supported.”
I have an older Android phone. (Samsung Note 3).
I went to the Play store and didn’t see any updates. Next I uninstalled the Ebay app and reinstalled it. It worked briefly and again I received the same message.
After looking online, it appears I need a software update for the phone that may not exist.
For now I’m using the browser on my phone to check Ebay. Yes, it’s really lame.
If any of you have dealt with this and are aware of a fix, or can confirm there is no fix, I’d appreciate the info.
I thought I’d post this, before going into the internet rabbit hole of information.
Thanks

What version of Android do you have? Depending on your carrier there may be a way to upgrade it, but for such an old phone I’m willing to guess they’ve dropped support already.
I briefly checked a few areas online and it seems this phone is able to have newer versions of Android installed via third-party tools, but you risk damaging and potentially rendering the phone useless if something goes wrong.
I was in a similar situation a few years ago. It’s probably time to invest in a new phone!

Hi Indy,
I believe I have version 5.0. The last update was in 2017 and no more are available.
I did see the upgrade you are talking about. Right now this phone is my only way of communicating and getting on the internet, so I’m not up for that gamble just yet.
It’s really too bad this phone is becoming obsolete due to software. I’ve been very happy with it and it still works fine otherwise.
Thanks

Your phone is 8 years old. You gotta upgrade, plain and simple.

Yeah, as frugal as we are, we always upgrade technology. Phones, computers, etc dont last past 5 years and still work well.

Like everyone said, your phone is too old to support the newest ebay app. your operating system was last updated in 2015. There are some great deals on phones on ebay for sure, so start shopping!
According to Wikipedia:
As of October 2020, 1.21% of Android devices run Lollipop 5.0

It looks like the writing is on the wall and my phone will soon be obsolete.
Most likely, I’ll just find something new and push the cycle to the limit again. I think a 5G capable device would probably be the minimum requirement.
Thanks everyone for responding, I appreciate it.

Well that’s up to you. You can get a phone capable of the latest updates for $100, or you could go all out and get the latest/greatest for $1000+.
The middle ground is where it gets murky. It is difficult to get a great deal on last year’s model, but if you go back 3 years in technology then you can get phenomenal deals. They’ll still be good for a couple years.
The frustration with the “middle ground” is why I splurged and got iphone 11pro maxes for my wife and I a year and a half ago, Mainly because the camera is phenomenal and allows us to take great photos/videos of the kids. I did my wife’s maternity photo shoot in a creek just with my iphone and got pro quality results. Our DSLR camera is pretty much obsolete now – I haven’t used it since I got these phones.
If all you really want is a phone that can do the latest upgrades then there isn’t much point in dropping $1k.

I don’t see myself spending $1000 for a phone, at least not right now. I’ll have to do a little research, but most likely I’ll just buy something new, that gets the job done.
Thanks for the info Retro.
