Sleep in day 🙂
Yeah, that big paycheck is rarely worth it. Hope you saved up a bunch of it to smooth the transition.
We’ve done some consulting work in our “career field”, but be careful. Clients can quickly make it into a full-time gig. We always make sure jobs have specific amounts of work within a specific time frame.
10/08/2020 at 8:11 pm in reply to: Customer Left a Neutral, Saying they ordered something from me that I dont sell #82276Personally, I’d just move on. A neutral will not harm your store in the least. Sounds like the buyer is just confused.
Anytime we get neutral or negative feedback, we make sure its not a continuing problem we’re doing. Otherwise, customers just have opinions.
I know it is outside the scope of Scavenging, but I’d LOVE to hear you discuss the numbers of the coffee business more on the podcast.
Yeah, we’re working on spreadsheets now but its definitely a different way of thinking of business. For coffee, its about repeat customers for in-store and whole bean. If we can get 500 people to pay us $30/month for their coffee/snack needs, that’s a good consistent pipeline.
Scavenging is so profitable because Americans throw away so much valuable items. Its easy to make money when you can get inventory for so cheap. But I’d challenge your time spent on a pair of shoes: you have the time driving to and from the thrift store, searching for shoes, cleaning, photographing, listing, packaging and shipping. Still good.
Buyer needs to pay to cancel. You can either:
–open an unpaid item case.
–cancel the sale with the reason “buyer changed mind”
We’ve lived here for 12 years. I think we’ve had three friends visit. Its tough for city people to leave their bubble.
And hour to the city is an easy drive! (if there’s fun to be had)

I see that he has 28,457 items listed! Plus he has free shipping on $5 items. Crazy.
Yeah, its all about risk tolerance. Canada is not a big deal. We just had a string of bad eBay Send shipments to places like Japan, South America, Europe.
Good news is we can turn on and off GSP as we feel less tolerant 🙂
10/06/2020 at 9:40 am in reply to: What does Ebay do with Global Shipping items they will not ship or return? #82192We’ve had this happen. I think it was a “fur item” to Norway. All we know if that eBay refunded the buyer and let us keep the money.
But thats the good thing about GSP. Everyone is protected.
After the CL applet stopped working, I haven’t opened up IFTTT.
10/06/2020 at 8:59 am in reply to: Buyer Bought From Me to Fulfill Their Amazon Order Now Asking for Refund #82187Agree with the above. I know eBay has changed their system to try to cut out drop shippers (like faster shipping times and penalties for being out of stock). But Im not sure if its “illegal” to do what this guy did.
I’d call eBay and have them read the messages from the buyer. They can tell you if you need to take the return if they admitted they resold it to someone else. Essentially thats what they did. They bought from you on eBay. Then they resold the same item to someone on amazon.
I also wonder if you said “send it back”, if you’d actually get the item. If he cant send the the back, then no refund.
Understood. Yeah, you’re just shipping USPS first class international. It’s great until it’s not. Sounds like you’ve had good luck with no lost packages or long delays.
USPS first class international is great for the buyer because its so cheap. But if its not delivered, then the seller eats the cost. The hope is you sell more to cover any losses.
We like GSP because we just need to get the item to the eBay warehouse. After that, eBay takes responsibility. Definitely more expensive more the buyer.
Yep, thats exactly how they work. Its not “gears go round”, but its similar:
When I go to the bank, I can withdrawal $5k cash without showing any ID or fill out a withdrawal slip.
It’s good you have a partner which hopefully makes things more enjoyable. If you feel your business is stable, might make sense to make more of an effort going to your friends. How far are you from the city?
