That’s awesome that you keep evolving and finding out what sells. We had then same process. We’re all learning from experience. Not everyone does.
Selling baseball cards or CD’s will be different than selling clothes or pottery. It makes sense to buy the 1986 Astros line up. Makes sense to lot of 10 CDs for $60, than try to sell each one for $3. Easy to ship.
Doesn’t always make sense to lot up other kinds of items. Will someone buy five pairs of shoes? Or eight vases. Who needs eight vases? How do you ship them?
Sellers who specialize in postcards, trading cards, ephemera, etc make a living by having thousands and thousands of listings. It’s about volume.
Scavenger Life Episode 276: How to Buy and Sell Postcards on eBay
We interviewed another seller who bought baseball cards in the tens of thousands to resell.
It sounds like you have a mailman that has a route. The other guys are just delivering extra packages?
Ultimately we’d choose the main guy and start discussing what works best for him.
I think there’s “how its supposed to work” and how it works in reality. Probably depends on your carrier and his/her ability.
We dont even schedule pickups anymore because our carrier just knows to check our porch. Unless we have dozens and dozens of boxes, she always has room in her car. She scans all packages as she loads them. We have a system and it works for our carrier and us.
If you have a regular carrier, ask them what would work. Do they drive a truck?
This is the problem for anyone either laid off or who works for themselves. Give us a time frame. If the goal posts keep moving, you don’t know if a three month cushion is enough. What if you plan for three months, and now its six months?
Obviously a global pandemic is mass chaos, but the government should be testing everyone. Anyone who has had the virus and is now immune can go back to work. Anyone who has the virus can be isolated anyone they touched can be tested and also isolated.
As of now, they’re mainly testing someone who shows up to the hospital already deeply ill. Of course they likely have COVID-19. They need to do pre-emptive testing to stop the spread.
–Can you give us some examples of what you’ve been lotting up and successfully selling?
–What did this lot sell for?UBI sounds good too, apart from the obvious flaws. As a small business owner yourself, if everyone is given let’s says $1,000 a month extra a month, could you honestly say you wouldn’t raise prices on your Airbnb properties? I know I would. And so would car manufacturers, groceries chains, big box stores, realtors and so on.
Only one way to find out. We’re already one check into UBI 🙂 Keep it going!
What if this is the event that causes universal basic income and universal healthcare to trigger.
Everyone is going to be cashing in those government checks and expects free COVID-19 tests/treatment so we’re all down. Everyone in and nobody out.
So then issue is the conversion rate from USD to Canadian dollars? Do you know what conversion they use (there are several).
Can you give an example of what they’re charging and what you expect?
We just get the invoices eBay sends. As Sonia says, the “ebay for business” folks on facebook are not the fastest but seem to give a good deep look at issues.
I also would stop cancelling and restarting stores. Sounds like you’re subscribing to the yearly subscription because its cheaper each month, so there will be a cancellation fee. eBay accounting wont change store to store.
–How do you know you’ve been overcharged? Curious specifically what numbers you’re comparing them against.
–What is the overcharge? Selling fees? Subscription level?
–What is “a full accounting review of their invoices”? The eBay invoice is very comprehensive listing every single charge for the month. What would you want it to look like?Once people realize you cant go buy out all the stores in their area and resell online for inflated prices, then the stores wont run out of stuff. Hand sanitizer will just be a normal, boring, cheap item again.
It’s going to be interesting to see what things people and our society change after all this.
Ozarks Season 3 on Netflix is now available. Its a great series if you haven’t watched it yet.
We finally got around to watching Chernobyl on HBO. Maybe not the least stressful series to watch in these times, but reminds us that its the people at the bottom who do all the work that keep society going.
Yeah, we always keep an eye on the Announcements. I’m glad eBay, Amazon, and other sites are slowing down sellers trying to profit from the panic buying of standard items.
Im still baffled why everyone is hoarding toilet paper. Our Walmart has everything in stock, but toilet paper still sells out as soon as they open.
Its tough with items “new in packaging” because there’s always a chance the buyer opens it and returns it. Just trust the process.
–Accept the return.
–Make then buyer ship it back (many buyers dont actually ship)
–When you get the item, definitely dont refund the cost of shipping since buy changed mind.
–If the item is not in the same condition, eBay allows the seller to hold a portion as a restocking fee. If you do “free returns”, eBay should back you up if the buyer fights it. -
