I joined the ebay Partner network a little while ago, when they added the “free FVFs” for any of my own items I sell through the EPN. But I haven’t really made much use of it. They just now added the ability to create an Affiliate Link QR Code.
I have a pack of blank labels I bought at a yard sale for 50 cents. I’m thinking of creating a “codeless Coupon” offer in Promotion Manager, and then linking to it via the EPN QR Code, printing out the labels with the QR Code and including them with some of my shipments. What do you guys think? I might very well be wasting my time, but I’ve got the room on my stuff to offer a discount, and if it moves a little faster because of this, why not?
Your thoughts greatly appreciated.

Oh, they’ve also made it easy to create a shortened affiliate link….no more need to use bitly or some other third party to shorten the absurdly long links. These are both things network members have been asking for, so I’m happy to see them.

So how do you make money? A buyer scans the QR code when they get their purchase from you and then buys something else again at a discount?

Jay,
Well, first, I should be clear: While I’m talking about sending this as a codeless coupon (say, 10% off on selected Holiday items), the affiliate link can be to my store’s landing page (as in debitendcredits sample link) or to a particular listing, or really any of my pages (or other ebay pages). If the buyer scans the QR Code (or types in the now thankfully much shorter link, which I would also provide), he would be taken to whatever page I designate. And hopefully he’d buy something. IF he buys something from me that is traced back to the affiliate link, I will pay NO fvf on that sale (or maybe I pay it, but it’s then credited back, I don’t recall the exact mechanics).
If the buyer looks at my stuff, doesn’t buy, but then continues looking at stuff on ebay, and buys something from someone else, I get a percentage of the sale (which is a typical affiliate commission kind of thing.). It’s not a huge amount, and it varies by category and so forth.
With this model, I could create an affiliate link /QR Code for your Broad Porch coffee ebay store, and I could include that with a note saying “Try my friends coffee”, or something like that. And if they buy some coffee from you, I’d get an affiliate commission (and of course, you’d get a sale). (The commission comes out of ebay’s pocket, not yours)
I’ve really just started to play around with this, but I think it has potential.
debitsendcredits, How is it working for you? Anyone else using it?

Jay, Yes, exactly. I don’t know how it works if the buyer has disabled cookies on his phone/PC.

Just wouldn’t track them. But if its an easy way to make an affiliate link, why not? You might make $20/month depending on how many people click and buy on eBay.

Jay, That’s pretty much my thought. It’s advertising first (so, even if the link isn’t tracked, I’ll be happy if I make a sale). Second, it’s the free FVF….nice, especially on more expensive items. And finally, it’s the affiliate commission on stuff other than my own. Since it’s free to sign up and seems pretty easy to do, I figure I might as well try it….

Well some how I earned $3.58 but I have no idea how.
Thanks for the tip on QR codes, I can going to start packaging targeted code-less coupons with my sales. I’ll keep ya ll posted.

I am very confused. I just tried to make a codeless coupon for 10% off on a select number of categories. How is this different than just a 10% of sale? I thought I would receive a link or some other code that would allow me to specifically send the discount to an individual. Is this discount going to apply to people who come to my listings organically?

I think I figured it out but the link does not appear to be working.
Can someone (who isn’t me) check to see if this link brings you to a coupon?

dendc, I think it usually takes a little while before it goes live, however, launching it is NOT intuitive, I do it so rarely, I always have to relearn it. I’ll try setting one up when I’ve finished today’s shipping, and will get back to you on that. So far, the link doesn’t work for me, but as I say, you might have set it up correctly, it may be taking a while to go live.
Now, the thing about codeless coupons (I’ve been begging for coded coupons for years, but so far…..crickets) It basically sets up a specific page with whatever discount you’ve chosen. A regular buyer coming to your store should NOT see the page (unlike a regular promotion). ONLY someone who has the link should be able to access the page. One issue I have with it is, if you send me the link you can call it an exclusive coupon just for me, but truth is, I could post the link to my Facebook page and all my Facebook friends could then access the “exclusive” sale. So, you need to make sure that you are OK with the possibility of a lot of other people buying at the discount…..

Patience is a virtue! It’s up. And your explanation makes perfect sense.
Thanks!

Yep! I see it! Looks good! And glad my explanation made sense…I’m not always sure that what I’m trying to say is what I actually say LOL
