Time for me to open up a bank account just for eBay stuff, I guess? That’s my one issue. Nothing will beat PayPal’s instant funds and their handy debit card that pulls direct from your balance.
One of my best finds was a “I better stop and check what that is” kind of thing. It was an entire 3-tiered roll-y cart filled with beauty products/tools. High-end clippers/trimmers, hair dryers, etc. Made some good money on that.
Ham radio/police scanners/CB radios. Ham radio equipment in particular is a really weird market and you’ll often find that used equipment from the mid-2000s (in questionable condition nonetheless) will sell for retail prices, thanks in part to the market largely being dominated by rich retirees with stacks of disposable income.
The only gotcha is that you have to be a licensed operator to test them for anything other than powering on, but they still sell well under parts/repair.
I love big buys like this and hope to one day get the money to actually dive in and do the same. Great work and good luck!
When local sourcing dries up I usually hit eBay for stuff under parts/repair to fix. Not much outside of that, though.
04/17/2019 at 5:23 pm in reply to: My ebay Income is about 50% less YOY from 2018 than expected #60426I’m up about 1k from last year in gross sales, but Jan/Feb were my worst months ever since starting eBay while March was one of the best ones. So far April is about tied with March and last week was a record week. This week, however, is one of the worst, probably because the weather is getting better again and everyone is outside thawing out. Or I just haven’t listed anything interesting.
Don’t get too down on yourself and just focus on the process. List list list until that stuff stops selling, then switch up what you’re listing and list list list again.
Yeah, you did all you can do. Consider that it’s $14 to intercept + all the time you’re investing calling/researching/filling out forms/etc.
Tell him to walk a few houses down when the tracking shows delivered. Easy.
What WBird said – it’s in the maze of Site Preferences.
FWIW, I have the setting on and it still doesn’t work in all cases.
Defects right now are only calculated based on orders that happened between Apr 01, 2018 and Mar 31, 2019 (unless you’re a high volume seller, in which case it’s the last 3 months, I think.)
Here’s the link you can use to see your Seller Level: https://sellerstandards.ebay.com/dashboard?region=US
Wait until the defect actually shows up, then call. The #1 priority of eBay’s customer service reps are to get you off the phone ASAP, and “we made a note”, “we’re investigating”, and “we’ll call you back” are different ways of them making you think something is being done without actually doing something.
When I go to that page I only see 5 items. Is that how it is for everyone else? The 5 items it shows me aren’t ones I want to send offers on because they’re $20 items with 1 or 2 watchers. I have $100+ items w/ 5-10 watchers I’d love to send offers on. What’s the deal? At least on the mobile app I can send an offer and refresh to see a new one in its place.
Have you experimented with white balance on the phone at all? On Android there’s a “pro” mode in the camera app that lets you tinker with it.
Also, finely-calibrated colors are only useful on finely-calibrated monitors. The person looking at your listing could be using a 15+ year old CRT with the blue setting ticked up by 10% from someone wildly pressing buttons on the front.
I’m a perfectionist (and a hobby photographer), so I understand the struggle. I used to shoot everything on a DSLR and ultimately gave up because it was a huge time sink. I found “close enough” to be good enough, but your mileage may vary. I use a Samsung phone from a few years ago with a specific color temperature/white balance setting. When I have to shoot outside of my photo booth I just put the phone in auto and deal with anything problematic in SnapSeed (great app) or eBay’s basic brightness/contrast stuff.
Your pictures are really good BTW. I think the perfect balance for eBay photos is somewhere just under “stock photo” quality.
Same method for all electronics: I do about 5 or 6 wraps of small bubble wrap (24″ wide.) I then do a “corner check” where I see if I can still feel the sharp edge of the unit and add additional wraps if needed. With 24″ bubble wrap there’s enough room of the sides to create “flaps” that I fold in and tape down for added protection. Add kraft paper to the bottom of the box, put the item in, then completely surround it in more kraft paper. I then pick the box up above my head and shake it around a bit to see if its snug.
I don’t bother with transport screws, but did have a buyer ask once. TBH I didn’t know about them at the time.
Larger carousel players are usually fine in my experience. Those 100+ disc changers from Sony are a little problematic since part of the disc exchange process involves the disc rolling from the player mechanism to the carousel – any kind of misalignment results in them getting jammed inside the unit. I typically avoid buying them, but for the right price I’ll pick em up.
Laziest case of photo stealing I’ve ever seen was someone going through solds and just taking a screenshots of other peoples’ photos, complete with notification bar and everything. Didn’t think to VERO it at the time.
When you opt in, business policies are created for each of your listings based on shipping method/handling/etc. When I switched mine over, around 12 different policies showed up that I ended up consolidating into 4. What you’d do is create your policies, then on the business policies page, click the little down arrow next to “Edit” and then “Change policy for these listings” on each of the automatically generated policies and move them over to the ones you created.
For example, eBay automatically generated a policy called “FREE:USPS First Class”. I created a “Free USPS First Class w/ Paid International” and moved all the listings over from the policy eBay created.
Moving listings to a different policy does take a minute or two, and in some cases won’t move all of them if the new policy doesn’t fit the listing for some reason (weight goes over first class, etc.)
Once you’ve consolidated all your listings over to a few policies, simply hit “Edit” next to them and change the handling time there. Wait a few minutes and they’ll eventually update.
Need to wait and see how Adyen ties into GoDaddy Bookkeeping, but I’m all for jumping ship if PayPal continues making things difficult.
