Hi All,
Earlier I had my offers to buyers beta disappear on the desktop. I just noticed today when responding to buyer’s offer in the app that I now have under the selling tab just under the “paid – ship now” area, a menu for send offer to buyers. It let me send about 20 offers today, with new items popping up to replace ones I sent. At some point it stopped letting more through. This is awesome. Making offers is a powerful tool to get your item back in front of phone addicted buyers. Also noting that Ebay only makes you drop the price by 5%, so more generous than Mercari if I remember correctly. -

I never did get the promised “make offer to buyers” option on my ebay seller page.
I haven’t updated my app in a while. I am downloading the update now. It says in the update description this:“Lots of updates this time, including being able to send offers to anyone who asks a question or is watching their listing.”
So yep, this is on the mobile app now.

I see the “send offer to buyers” on this view of our Seller Hub:

Ok so I finished downloading the update. Guess what – NO offers to watchers anywhere….
There is one major improvement though – ALL of my items now appear in active listings.

Can you let us know if any of the 20 offers you sent get accepted? I think its great eBay is giving sellers this functionality, but Im skeptical of how effective it is.
I’ve probably sent 40 offers total and zero sales.

No action yesterday but one offer did get accepted right away today with a little better discount, like 20 percent off. I was only able to send offers on about 7 items today for whatever reason. I think I read before that weekends, especially Sundays are a better time to try this.

I noticed that option on my iPhone eBay app yesterday and sent out about 20 offers.
Had one sale within a few hours on a sweater that had been in my inventory for over 3 years. -

I’ll let you know. FYI I didn’t take much off – just over the 5% on most things, like a couple of bucks on the typical item. In the past it has worked for me a couple of times, less than 10% of the time on Ebay. On Mercari I had more success with it, but you have to discount it more heavily and my prices there were originally lower.

I was able to send out a bunch of offers through the link Jay posted. I’ve done this a few times with no success.
Today I discounted fairly steeply – 30-40%. They were all items that are pretty old based on the photo backgrounds.

When I go to that page I only see 5 items. Is that how it is for everyone else? The 5 items it shows me aren’t ones I want to send offers on because they’re $20 items with 1 or 2 watchers. I have $100+ items w/ 5-10 watchers I’d love to send offers on. What’s the deal? At least on the mobile app I can send an offer and refresh to see a new one in its place.

I tried it today and sold 1 item thru it…but I sold 4 other items during the afternoon. Good day, all items that have been sitting a while…the “feed the beast” attitude seemed to work well today….

I’ve only been able to get “offers to buyers” to work twice through that link. There’s no option on my desktop or mobile eBay for it otherwise.
I have no idea if the offers I sent even resulted in sales.
I’ve had the option to send “offers to buyers” when they ask a question for a very long time now, so I guess I’m in eBay bizzaro world.

almasty, others
The ability to send offers when asked a question has been around a while, I think everyone has it. It’s not the same thing, this new change allows you to send to (undisclosed) watchers.
As I understand it, the send offers to watchers is still being rolled out, but I would think we should all have it pretty soon. I have it on my PC, not on the app, but maybe I need to update my app.
Since I got it, I sent out 31 offers. One sale so far. (The last five or ten are still waiting for responses, but I doubt they’ll sell at this point).
Like Jay, I was skeptical. I suspect this is more effective for sellers of new items, those watchers are more likely actually interested in buying. My kind of long tail stuff—-I suspect many, many watchers are other sellers researching to ID or price their own items. However, I’ll keep doing it because 1. The effort is minimal, and there’s no fee. 2. My margins on most things are high enough that I can absorb any discount I offer, it’s not like I’m cutting into my profits very deeply if I make a sale.

Yeah, but the newest update for the mobile app is also for the “send offers to buyers” when you receive a question, in addition to the new way of sending offers to ? buyers. I’ve had the first option via desktop and mobile forever already. I have, however, never gotten the “offer to ? buyers” to appear on either my desktop or mobile.
Version history 5.30.0

“Lots of updates for sellers this time, including being able to send offers to anyone who asks a question or is watching their listing.”I’ve checked, and that’s the current mobile version of eBay that I’m running. I have the first part of that, just not the second part. It is odd that their own update doesn’t even work for everyone.

I am running “Full version” 5.30.0.1518 IOS on an iphone 8
It’s not working well today. Some items are repeats from the last couple of days and it’s not bringing up any new ones after I make offers. I sold two vintage bread and butter $20-30 items at a small discount, one has been listed over a year.
I watch items I like but don’t want to pay the price, then I usually forget about them (more true on Ebay than Mercari). Often when I get an offer from a seller it’s still more than I want to pay so I don’t accept but it does bring the item back to my attention. I think it’s an awesome tool. You’re not entirely at the mercy of the algorithm this way.

I tried again today and sold 4 items..none of which were items I sent offers on, but I’m sold on thinking the activity helps my store… I’m a believer in activity=sales

Made five offers last night, sold one within a couple hours. I’m still pretty firmly in the “it’s easy to do, costs nothing, so go ahead and do it now and then” camp. I’m just happy to have levers we can use to at least try to get more sales, especially when things are slow.
-
04/15/2019 at 9:12 am #60181
Yeah, it’s a free lever to pull. Unfortunately no watcher has accepted an offer we’ve sent.
What kind of discount are you giving people?

There might be something to this. I sold 20 items yesterday after having a pretty slow week. I don’t think any of the items sold were from offers I sent, but something was jostled. I’ll take what I can get!

Jay, Depends on the item. My range is from 5% to 20%, sometimes more if I really want to move it. I do run occasional markdown sales, and most of my stuff has Make Offer on it, and my prices are set accordingly—-ie, I have wiggle room on most stuff.
I don’t expect great sales from this, because I’m pretty sure many of my watchers have no intention of buying regardless of price. If there was a fee for doing this, or if it was time consuming, I’d probably ignore it. But fast and free? Count me in.

I’ve been using the make offer to watchers for a while, but my first sale was only last week. I’ve sold a few items this week, so it is finally starting to help. I have one person dickering with me on the price (and I don’t think I will make the sale), and I got one message “Thanks for the offer, but I respectfully decline”, which was kind of cute.
I don’t see it on my mobile app yet.
My offers are in the range of My Cottage where I am giving a 20%, maybe more, for something I’ve had for quite some time, but closer to the 5% for newer items. Sometimes I skip an item if it is already on sale or if it was recently added to inventory.

I sent probably 15-20 offers last week with solid discounts (ie listed for $28.99, offer $20.00) and heard nothing on any of them.
Very underwhelming.

Winchester, Yeah, it’s not a guaranteed sale system that’s for sure. But I approach it with very low expectations. As I’ve been saying, to me fast and free is the selling point: If I don’t make any sales, I’m only out a little time and no money. So I’ll continue to use it, but with a clear sense that it isn’t likely to move the needle very much.
I do wonder if multi quantity sellers are having more success with it, simply because I expect more of their watchers actually have the intent to purchase, whereas many of my watchers are researchers….

I’ve been ignoring the “you have watchers in your cart” emails, but I gave a few offers through one the other day and actually got a sale through it! I’m actually surprised. I’ll try it again and see if it results in more salea.
