Never had this happen before. Any suggestions appreciated: Go to print ebay shipping label yesterday to an address in Raleigh NC. eBay won’t let me print it, a notice pops up that there’s an error in the ship to address. Contact buyer about address. He first sends PM that it is correct, two minutes later, an apology and he has changed the zip code (which is what I suspected was wrong). So, I edit the label, with the corrected zip, and the ebay Gods are happy. Thank him, print label, send package ion its way. So far, so good. It’s on its way to (making this up to protect my buyer’s privacy LOL) 1234 Jones Road, Smithville, NC with correct zip
Wake up this morning to a message from the buyer asking me to send to corrected address of 1250 JOnes Rd, Smithville, NC (same zip).
In other words, yesterday, he corrected the zip code. Today, he’s correcting the street address. I PMed him this AM, saying I wasn’t sure what I could do, giving him the tracking number, noting package should arrive Wed according to estimated from ebay, and suggesting he check with his local PO about his options.
Anything more I can do on my end?
(Just to be clear, I’m not worried about a scam or ebay seller protection stuff…just trying to figure out how to make sure he gets this.)

Sounds like this guy is on travel or just moved in … or just an idiot.
I recall reading something on the forum where a seller was able to intercept a package through the post office prior to delivery, but there was cost associated with it. I’ve never done it myself, so you would have to call the USPS to find out. Otherwise, it sounds like you did all the right things.

That’s pricey! You could always ask him if he is willing to pay for it and then invoice through PayPal. If it isn’t a big sale, then let him take care of it through his local PO.

i’ve had this happen before, funny that someone doesn’t know where they live! but they might have just moved are are visiting. not much you can do, i would not bother intercepting. wait til it gets sent back to you, tell him you’re happy to resend once he pays for shipping again.

I had PMed him this AM, told him to check with his local PO, see if they could do anything for him, but haven’t heard back. It’s not an expensive item, so I agree with Ryanne’s point….just let it play out. The USPS Intercept fee is a bit pricey for this. Hopefully, his local PO can work it out without the iem getting sent back to me, but if it does get sent back, I’ll resend if he is willing to pay shipping.

Well, wanted to update. So far, no luck, but I did learn something…..apparently for SOME packages you can change the delivery instructions by going to the USPS Tracking Number page. If a package is eligible, it will have a “Change Delivery Instructions” option at the top right, under In Transit. As far as I can see, there is NO charge for this. As it says: “Want to authorize your USPS® carrier to drop off your package when no one’s home for delivery? It’s easy. And you can even have your package left in a specific area of your home or business, with a neighbor, or have it delivered to another address.”
Unfortunately, when I tried to do this—repeatedly, with three different browsers, two different computers….I kept getting a “system is having technical difficulties” message. So, I got no where with that. But worth remembering that the option is there should this happen to you in the future.
I have since called the buyer’s local PO and left a message on their machine. Hoping they’ll call back, but who knows?
I have a feeling English is not my buyer’s native language (although his messages have been OK) and for some reason he apparently hasn’t contacted his local PO himself, despite my efforts to get him to do so.
So, still waiting to see what will happen, but wanted to pass along the info about the ability to alter delivery instructions on the USPS site.

You’ve done more than enough to resolve this. This is the buyer’s problem to sort out with their local PO and/or neighbors.
I’ve had a few buyers contact me after the fact to say “Oh, that address is wrong, send it here instead!”. Um, the package left my state 12 hours ago. Contact your local PO, explain the problem, and see if they will hold that package for you to pick up.
Once the buyer realizes that there’s nothing I can do on my end, they figure out a plan on their end.

Yeah, you did all you can do. Consider that it’s $14 to intercept + all the time you’re investing calling/researching/filling out forms/etc.
Tell him to walk a few houses down when the tracking shows delivered. Easy.

I figured the Intercept was too pricey. I’m going to try calling his PO one more time this morning, and after that, he’s pretty much on his own.

Update: PO called me back. The Regional Supervisor managed to contact the guy who was actually out delivering the mail, that guy found the package (as yet thankfully undelivered) and he changed the address to the correct address, so my buyer should be getting his package this afternoon sometime. Huge kudos to the PO guy who spent a good 20 minutes or more tracking down the delivery guy and resolving this.
I sure hope the buyer is happy with the item! LOL
