Idahoarder, I have this problem. It’s completely frustrating. I have wondered if it was just my account because I can find no one else online who talks about it and I don’t think ebay understands the issue.
For anyone reading this, first of all.. here is how you can see what listings it is affecting and if you have a GSP issue:
Go to Seller Hub -> All Active Listings
Run a GSP search by clicking on the “Item Title” drop down and selecting “Global Shipping Program”
You can toggle between “is enabled” and “is not enabled” and see if your query results match up with what you were expecting. In my case, I thought I had GSP on all my listings, it appeared that GSP was enabled when viewing the shipping policy and looking at the listings themselves, but only a handful were actually showing up as “enabled” when running this query.. the GSP wasn’t really “active” for 95% of my listings.
Try this and let me know what this yields for you and if you are having the same problem, I’ll try and explain what I did that (might have) solved the problem.
I would have not responded.. definitely no further communication. Sorry nothing really beneficial to add here but I hope you never hear from them again.
Yes! Bring back Basic Coat and Jacket please! 🙂 +1
Can’t believe you found that on the curb! Well, the author, William Powell, died last year, and would not have wanted you to sell it:
https://www.theguardian.com/books/2017/mar/30/anarchist-cookbook-author-william-powell-dies-aged-66
But many people are looking for “the original” and it most definitely has value – I would probably stow it away in a locked filing cabinet for historical purposes – maybe you can sell it to a museum in the future ? I would hate to destroy it, but I wouldn’t want to sell it on eBay into the hands of a future school shooter…
My advice is just take this one step at a time and now wait for the customer to open a formal case. Maybe they will not get around to it, and maybe they will not upload tracking etc. and you will get lucky, but mentally prepare for the worst case scenario. Let the buyer take it to the next level. It’s not your fault that the plug didn’t fit – you can dispute an INAD if/when the time comes – you can argue that this falls more under buyers remorse (like when clothing doesn’t fit). (I think suggesting a plug or adapter could help your case – you could offer to pay for it to keep the deal together – if you do some more research and see what will work with the grinder.)
Good luck and sorry this happened to you.Simon, good point.. kaninekleenup, when was the package actually delivered? If they are in the return window and claim INAD… I think you are going to be responsible for the return shipping if they press the issue with eBay… Is the shipping worth more than the item?
Consider the cash your “Annual Holiday Bonus” .. Scavenger Style! That is an amazing story!
I had a return request on a pair of clarks that fell apart 45 days after the sale. A return was opened up as usual (Defective item) and I accepted and refunded. Later I realized it was outside of my typical warranty time… I called ebay to ask what would have happened if I had refused the return.. they said customer would automatically lose any case with no penalty to me. However, buyer can always open a paypal case for their money back within 180 days, but it is my understanding that Paypal will always make the buyer ship the item back on their own dime with proof of tracking – so you won’t have to worry about return international shipping in that case.
For your customer, I would just wait for a case, or politely let them know that they are out of their warranty period and although a refund isn’t possible at this stage in the game – they will probably have good luck reselling the item on ebay themselves to recoup their cost or more 🙂“Fast Food and Hats”
Prior 31 Days, Up 12.1% (Market Down 8.4%)
Prior Year, Up 77.4% (Market UP 9.8%)As far as my gut feelings on slow days and zero sale days.. they do occasionally happen to everyone and they aren’t fun. It does seem that when you keep “doing” the same thing over and over (ie: running the same daily sale, or continuously promoting all your listings, etc.) it seems like the newest greatest “thing” that you were doing seems to loose its effectiveness over time. Have you noticed the same? Whenever I “change it up.. ” so to speak and try something entirely new that hasn’t been done, that seems to immediately jostle the algorithm and can start sales flowing. I think Cassini likes general activity, tweaking old listings, etc. but nothing helps more than a new stream of listings coming in.. that’s when I think the old listings get a “boost” and old stuff starts to sell. Sometimes strange things will happen, old listings will sell in groups.. I have inventory bins listed alphabetically in chronological time order. (So for example I know A1 was from 2016… Z2 is going to be from 2018). Sometimes oldies will sell and I’ll be pulling 3 items from the same old bin from 3 years ago – stuff I was on the verge of donating. It has happened too many times to not notice it. It’s like the algorithm is giving a cyclical boost through all my items once a month – or whenever it decides to do so.
My Store Week Sept 23-29, 2018
Total Items in Store: 1144
Items Sold: 17
Gross Sales: $429.46
Cost of Items Sold: $46.45
Highest Price Sold: $57.92 (Painted Egyptian Papyrus Art)
ASP: $25.26
STR: 6.4% (Calculated Troy’s Way)
Returns: 0 (1 Unpaid & 1 Cancel)
Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $12.85
Number of items listed this week: 9It has been a slow listing week (and will be this week as well) because I’m having insulation put in my basement (eBay room) and am in the process of removing my ENTIRE inventory into another part of the basement. It’s horrible, bin upon bin of stacked bins and piles… but I’m taking the opportunity to make a more efficient office, re-organize everything, hopefully end up with a better working environment once it is all said and done – it’s just quite messy right now and is taking me away from being able to list.
A Warning.. don’t do what I did: After cancelling my international sale over the Chinese book non-buyer I was complaining about earlier this week, I turned off Alternate International Shipping (it was masking GSP on 90% of my listings for an unknown reason). I decided to fix this and was playing around with consolidating all my many shipping policies and using the bulk editor to make sweeping changes … as you all know .. it is so buggy… Long story but MY ENTIRE STORE ACCIDENTALLY GOT SWITCHED TO FREE SHIPPING… I quickly realized the mistake right before dinner and was frantically trying to figure out how to get my really heavy listings turned back on with calculated shipping. I was yelling at the family, “Eat without me, I HAVE SOMETHING I NEED TO DO RIGHT NOW!!!” I am still trying to sort out what is first class and Priority and most of my store is still on Free Shipping… (so best offer is temporarily OFF until I sort it out) another reason why not much is getting listed until I fix everything back. I immediately sold 4 items as soon as the free shipping hit, (all women’s jackets and shirts) which I thought was interesting, so ended up having a good day on Sunday because of that – but thank goodness I didn’t lose money on “free shipping” of stereo equipment, furniture or anything heavy!I hope everyone has a great week and Jay & Ryanne, I am very grateful for your podcast and can’t wait to listen tonight!
Happy Birthday Christine! 🙂
Congratulations on $100,000 that is great!!
(I just thought to myself, well, now we know where our promoted listing fees are going.. haha.. someone has to fund the money for these coupons and promotions, right?)
Hey Idahoarder, Thank you so much for posting this… I hate spending money on junky stuff.. but with this $5.00 promo, I just bought a phone case and a pop socket for my daughter (who has been asking for these items for a very long time, LOL!) So, was able to buy them for her for mere pennies, on two different eBay accounts. Thanks A LOT! 🙂
09/28/2018 at 1:47 pm in reply to: Asking for your advice – I'm In Over my Head with a Shipping Request to China #49314Antique Frog – Thanks – yes, I should have let this ride out and have the non payer strike take effect – but, I did cancel it last night (I didn’t want it to go through and have him expecting a refund, then claiming INR/INAD, etc.) I chose “Buyer requested to cancel” as my reason – so hopefully no defects. He wanted to pay me for International Priority first and then credit him back on the backend once I took it to the post office to buy the cheaper shipping that isn’t trackable… – so no deal… wasn’t going to go there. Oh well.. he is still trying to buy the book – turns out it is signed by a famous illustrator from the late 1800’s and may be more valuable than I originally thought…
Thank you for your advice. -
