Amatino, yes, keywords are very important. I cannot tell you how many times I have seen listings with incorrect keywords for clothing. I have been tempted to e-mail them to let them know the correct keyword for said item of clothing. But I don’t. I have appreciated the occasions where folks have e-mailed me to let me know when I have used an incorrect keyword., but I realize not everyone might. I have a pillow listed with a dog in needlepoint. Someone contacted me to let me know that it was not a (whatever I listed the dog as), rather it is a Doberman (I think). Anyhow. I don’t know dog breeds, and they corrected me and I was happy about it. I have gotten rid of car parts, just because I know nothing about cars and would not know how to list it or price it. Keywords are so important. Or at least the correct keywords.
08/06/2020 at 1:56 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 474: How Do We Only Sell High Priced Items All The Time? #80401That’s kind of a tough situation to be in, especially where space is concerned. I had to tell a few friends to “not” think of me when unloading stuff. My brother had a treasure trove of things to unload, and I refused them. Did not even want to look at them. I am on a mission to get organized and unload my own things. That being said, I don’t really have any sage advice, just good luck, whichever path you take unloading the items you have.
I watched a podcaster who has a shed just for ebay items (I’m sure there are many podcasters who have this). Then I hear Jay and Ryanne talk about their space. I am trying my darnedest to reach that goal. I’ve gotten started, but a ways off from “getting there”. When I find things around the house I want/need to sell on ebay, I remove it from my house and put it in my storage space. Eventually, I’ll get there.
I get bored easily and like to switch furniture around, change decor, and just my environment all the time. I cannot see something sitting idle for long, as it will drive me crazy. I love the idea of having what I picture in my head Jay and Ryanne have set up. A nice big place with plenty of space for everything. And out of the house.
craig rex Thanks for the recommendation on the channel. Who knew someone was doing this. I will definitely check it out.
Oh. My. Word.
I just check it out. Hmm.
08/04/2020 at 4:26 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 474: How Do We Only Sell High Priced Items All The Time? #80340Jay and Ryanne, I was so glad to hear about you have not figured out how to make a FB store. I have deleted my FB page years ago, but resurrected it to make a “store front” or what ever they call it. Talk about rocket science. I again deleted my FB page. I too detest Facebook. I never liked it. Still don’t. Never will.
I too do not double box. I recently sent a glass candleholder using only bubble wrap and got positive feedback. I’ve sent small frames with the glass just using bubble wrap. No problems. I am, however, not buying anything breakable if I can help it anymore though. I really am being focused on listing selling my old stock and re-thinking my selling strategies. If this virus has done anything for me, it has kept me focused I must say. I just wish this virus never existed. I am bothered when I hear of all of the deaths as a result of it. But, I digress.
Loved the “Insane Clown Posse” mention! Always makes me laugh so much when Jay goes “Woot, Woot!” I’m going to record that and listen to it when I’m in a stressful situation, or bad mood. 😊
This week’s podcast was great! I love the longer podcast. There was a lot of info and laughs.
I usually pass on the board games. I have a few I’ve never listed and just recently learned that USPS actually has boxes for them. I should request a few while on the subject. That was a great flip! I love hearing other peoples success stories on big flips!
This has been a week of a lot of big dollar purchases. Dentist, taxes, a large fabric purchase, etc. I need to list on ebay. My sales are slipping on ebay and etsy is picking up, but I have been feeding etsy, and not ebay. The few $2o. sales lately won’t cut it. However, there was that one $185. sale on a needlepoint kit I sold last week. Paid $5. for it, so I was happy (and surprised) it sold-no “offer”, they just paid up. Win, Win!
Wishing everyone top dollar sales this week!
I did reach out to the customer. They never responded. They might have bought as a “guest”, so they are probably not even aware I tried to contact them. I am not crazy about Etsy forums. I think etsy forums are not complicated, but convoluted, to be sure. I find that folks here are far more knowledgeable and experienced in answering questions related to re-selling.
I wound up just leaving it as is,. I have gotten quite a few more orders, and so far, no one is complaining. I’ll just ride the tide for now. For the future however, I’ve decided to create a “Pre-Orders Only” listing, showing items they can pre-order with the understanding that the delivery time is (fill in the black) weeks away. I am not able to create a listing with 2 different items having 2 different shipping dates for the same or like items on Etsy.
Thanks for your suggestions, Jay and Marianne!
Might they be used for tufted furniture? Like upholstery buttons. Conjecture here.
Amatino, that is just the tip of the iceberg on collars. And if you think that is something, try looking up sleeves. And just when you thought you have seen all the sleeves, you haven’t. The Japanese have amazing origami-like sleeves that will blow your mind. There are many Japanese books on the subjects, believe it or not. I have a degree in fashion design and have worked in the garment industry for many years. I also sew and do alterations, although, it’s hard to do that now with the virus. Anyhow, thanks for the reminder. I wanted to do something that I might work on. Just, as per usual, I have many irons in the fire. I’m just rambling-don’t mind me. But do check out these sleeves. Enjoy.
My taxes were not simple. No 1040 EZ here . I had a schedule C, deductions, donations, among other various paperwork involved. Hence, why I did not do them myself. The preparer told me that it would have cost me $500., but I must have gone in there looking disheveled or something because she and everyone there was really nice and we even spoke on a few occasions where she told me about her daughter, how she graduated from college, etc. I felt like I knew her. That aside, she charged me less than half of that-even with all my taxes entailed. Wow. I was not going to complain. At all. I asked her how long she had been doing taxes, she told me since 1981. Also, this office is open year round, which very few are.
Jay, I listen to every SL podcast and wait each week like a cat waits for cat-nip. I only have a few podcasts that I look for each week and SL is the top one. If the others stopped podcasting, well, there goes that, but if you and Ryanne stopped podcasting, well. I would lost. NO pressure though. Haha! I know I don’t comment on the podcasts, but please know that I truly appreciate all you and Ryanne do. Even more so when you two laugh. Pricele$$.
Lol. Yes, Jay…I know taxes were due July 15 😀 I was just asking because I did my through hr block this year and was expecting to pay all this money, and surprise, surprise, I did not have to. So, I guess I’m just kinda wondering how good they are. The person I worked with was very nice and she was a Senior Tax Analyst, but titles mean nothing if you don’t really know what you’re doing. I felt comfortable with her and she seemed knowledgeable. I was just wondering if other folks had the same experience I did.
I used to have someone who did my taxes back in the day for many years, however, she was already up there in age and I started noticing she was doing goofy things, so I stopped going to her. By goofy, I mean, she misplaced alllllll of my w-2’s and other papers I gave here. With no apology whatsoever, she called me and told me this and then acted like it was no big deal. Adding insult to injury, she charged me more that year. I was done after that.
But I, like you, just want to make sure everything is legit, and kosher when I do my taxes.
Oohh…drop shipping…something I would never attempt. Too much risk involved for my taste.
I think the pandemic is largely the reason for fabric sales. First, the obvious, the masks. Then, I guess folks are just looking for crafty type things to keep them busy. I have so many hobbies, I don’t understand how some people have “no” hobbies. I have to keep busy at all times, plus I am a multi-tasker. Too, I think people who once crafted, are probably finishing up their previous projects.
I was teaching sewing classes pre-pandemic. I stopped because of the pandemic. Not sure I will be teaching classes in person again, although I loved doing it. I got a lot of messages from people who wanted to still take classes because they had all this time on their hands. I was not willing to teach classes, not knowing what all the virus triggers were, etc. I think the pandemic has people a little stir crazy, so they are taking up hobbies like sewing. Sewing, I will say is very relaxing and I highly recommend it.
But Jay, if you remember, I mentioned a few times a while back, how I had so much fabric that I wanted to unload. I sold a lot of it on etsy. Also, I had a nurse contact me through a mutual business associate and literally ordered a couple thousand. So, I got rid of a lot of little odds and ends fabrics that way.
I only ran out of 1 item and that is the only pre-sale item I have in my shop. If the paid pre-orders are delayed I would refund the customer at the end of August-so August 31 I would promptly refund the buyer if the item had not shipped to them on that day.
In all my years selling on etsy, I have never set up a pre-order before, so to be fair, I am learning as I go along about pre-orders. I think because many items on etsy are custom and/or handmade orders, they do allow long handling times. I had the option to set up a 4-6 week handling time-and I did-but after the fact.
The good thing about pre-orders is 1.you get a better sense of how much you will need to order from your supplier and 2.If you need to order more, you can do so seamlessly 3.for the most part, the hope is that your pre-ordered items will be paid for by the time you receive your supply. Like I needed to tell you the benefits. 😀
Yes. I sell fabric on etsy. Since the pandemic hit, there is a run on 100% cotton novelty print fabric, and that’s what I sell.
I don’t really “worry” about how the products will react down the road when cleaning stuff up too much. I just try to make it look good enough to photograph well. Now…if some product will totally ruin the item, then no, I would not use said product. But I’m no scientist/chemist. I thank God for those who are though! I would ruin everything if it weren’t for YouTube videos, this forum and Google! Hope you find a solution, debitsandcredits!
Have you tried Barkeepers Friend? OMG. I swear by it. I love how well it cleans! It’s supposedly natural also. I don’t think it has a smell. It’s more gentle than Ajax or other cleansers. I had been working on redecorating and almost threw out a stainless steel kitchen sink. When I cleaned it with Bar Keepers Friend, it looked almost new!
And while on the subject of cleaning. I recently (within the last 6 months) purchased a Bissell handheld Power Shot steam cleaner. Jeez! Why didn’t anyone tell me about these earlier? I have a slight addiction to the “Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners” (or some other name similar on YT. I got the idea there. These folks are serious about house cleaning! Anyhow. I love my steamer. I steam almost the entire bathroom and almost anything. Walls, bathtub, sink, toilet, towels, sheets, kitchen sink, kitchen ceramic tile, curtains, bed, doorknobs-you get the idea. How did I ever do without one of these little gems? I have a clothes steamer I used to use, but it did not have the reach. With the handheld one, it’s perfect reach. And a long cord and a few attachments included. Especially great for those running an Air BnB, Ryanne, I’m looking at you. 😀 These things really sanitize and leave your room feeling fresher. I don’t recommend adding any scent, but you won’t need it. It just leaves the surfaces and room feeling “clean”.
Good luck.Ok, I’m just looking for a distraction, as I”m working on my taxes. ugh.
