I have not been sourcing. There is 1 thrift store by me that I have been to a few times. Did not really buy anything. I am sticking to my “sell what you have-get rid of those death piles” momentum that I’ve been pretty good at since the beginning of the year (pre-pandemic). Of course during the first few months of the quarantine, my sales soared, but since I’m not really listing, it is showing in my sales. Really slow, random sales in my ebay store. Etsy is a bit better, but I really need to step up my game on ebay.
I know Ryanne and Jay were saying in this weeks podcast that summer sales are slow, but jeesh! My sales are reallllly slow!
Could you sell as movie props and still make a profit? Might be worth a shot. I’m just thinking of the movie “Weird Science”. I too know nothing about the items you mentioned, but sometimes people use different keywords and voila, you have a sale! Good luck.
Omg. icequeen, I recently gave away a ginormous contractors bag of Tupperware. I have never liked Tupperware, did not like going to demonstrations, did not like drinking out of plastic cups, eating out of those plastic plates, etc. lol. When I look at some of the prices that stuff goes for! I know some was valuable, I just did not want it around.
Thanks for the bolos though. I’ll look out for some of the Star Wars stuff for sure.
chaoticgood, if you look inside the garment, there should be a white tag. On the white tag, there will be things like “lot” number, “size”, etc. Or some just have this “RN” number. you can find out who the manufacturer is (although you already know who.the manufacturer is, I think you mentioned “Addidas”). If Addidas is the manufacturer, then it will be difficult, but let’s say your item did not have a logo or a logo you did not recognize, and you wanted to know, you can look up the RN number https://rn.ftc.gov/Account/BasicSearch and if it is a company for example, SportPort, who only makes women’s athletic wear, then you would be able to use deductive reasoning to know that the sweatpants were ladies. Just curious, when you do a partial refund, is the buyer still able to leave feedback? It’s been a while since I’ve done a refund for shipping, but from what I remember, once I showed that I refunded they buyer for shipping even, they were not able to leave feedback. Does this make sense?
Is it an article of clothing? If so, I use the cheapest vodka I could buy, put in a spray bottle, and mark it with the letter “V”-so I know it’s not just water. If you spray clothing with slight tinge of smell, (i.e., your winter coat has been hanging in the closet for 4 months, and now you want/need to wear it) the vodka clears up the smell, and dissipates. I do not like the smell of Febreeze or any other store bought scent, as many people have allergies. The vodka does not leave a lingering “vodka” smell.
For some other things, baking soda works wonders. You can leave the item in a plastic bag with a 1/4 cup of baking soda still in the cup, and depending on the smell, the baking soda will soak it up within between 24-48 hours.
But I agree with mickdog, full sunlight and fresh air does wonders. Especially sheets/bedding, rugs, and the like.

Oh gosh. While this sounds like a great score, it makes me wonder… Maybe someone here has some insight on my dilemma. Since childhood, I have been a multi-talker. Still am. I have almost always worked 2 jobs (sometimes 3) simultaneously my whole working life. I don’t like to sit still. Anyhow, I was a wedding photographer for 10-11 years. I shot weddings on Saturdays, some Sundays, and some Fridays. I also taught at the public schools here and during the summer months I worked at the park district. As a visual artist, I truly enjoyed photography and took photos as a teacher, then a recreational leader during the summer months. I have a million photos of other peoples kids, birthday celebrations, beach outings, museum trips, boating trips (just paddle boats), holidays, weddings, school strikes, school recess (kids playing in the school yards) school parent-teacher meetings, trips to the Illinois Capitol, field trips, local school counsel meetings-you name it.
Anyhow. I tried to donate the photos to school district as well as the part district as historical records (there is probably photos that might interest historical buffs). No takers. The school district and the part district both said they wanted them, but neither picked them up. I was very available to hand them off.
I know when I pass, my family is going to throw these away and I would hate to see that happen (ya-I know-I’ll be none the wiser). I just think these may be of use to some organization, preferably the aforementioned. So, what do I do with them? I literally have thousands of photos. Thousands. Many are actual photos, a lot are on CD’s, (I know!) some are on Compact Flash cards, (early SD cards for those wondering), and a few rolls unexposed. Does anyone have good, sound advice? While I love the idea of being the current “Vivian Maier”, (chuckles) I highly doubt it-just being “real”. Thanks
Good luck with those slides, IndySales! I’d go thru them and categorize and sell that way-painfully slow, but most profitable I imagine.
And Jay, just a side bar: “…just wide shots of trees and mountains” made Ansel Adams a very famous man. 😀
Update: I contacted the person making the “Vero” (not what it’s called on etsy). They replied and asked me to fwd the letter I received. They said that they would reinstate my listings. Whew. That was a close one. I was completely blind sighted by that original e-mail. So far, 2 of the 3 listings they removed have been put back up.
I will post an update to the update to see if in fact they did completely reinstate me.Thanks, Lauren. I don’t understand though, HUNDREDS of listings on both ebay and etsy are selling the very same fabrics I have. WHY ME? -clearly a hypothetical question. But I really do not understand. There are also online e-tailers selling these same fabrics, so there’s that. I’m truly baffled.

I did not know a teapot could go for $200. ! That’s fabulous! I think I only have 1 teapot. It’s a really nice one too. Don’t think it’s $200. nice, but I do like it. Good luck with those freebies, Lauren.
