Number of items listed this week: 12 Ebay, 7 MercariSo grateful that you are still doing the Podcast and keepin’ it real. I’m excited about your new business coming down the pike. Makes total sense for your town and future renters. Smart to have partners.
Finally after a couple of weeks of listing my Ebay store “turned back on”. I’ve been sending offers and listing about every other day. The good sales definitely got me even more interested in listing, though I have my day job work to do as well. In fact, I’d rather be listing on Ebay and getting stocked up again. I’m not being super picky about photography. I’ve been listing vintage fabric, kitchenware, and art work lately from the piles. It feels really good to get some of these boxes out of the garage and tackle them. Easter stuff did not move well but I sold a couple of items.
Mercari seems quite active lately. I was hesitant to put items from the piles on Mercari because they don’t get sucked into my bookkeeping spreadsheet and I have to keep my own records. It’s a bit tedious too because you can’t sort the sales by sale date, etc. and have to drill down into orders. But, some of the lower dollar vintage I’m giving a go on there.
Incidentally, I found out this week that extreme couponers are listing on Mercari in case anyone is looking to buy essentials, especially personal care items. I normally buy some groceries and drug store items on Walmart.com but they are sold out of a lot of items and shipping is slower than before.
Have a great week and happy Easter to those who celebrate.
04/11/2020 at 11:45 am in reply to: Luggage key, Matchbox cars, BSR record player, Special Pleader picture #76106It’s been a while but I finally have some solds to share. This week has been good for sales.
Paid $3-4 Christmas in April at $109! Stocking kit I don’t craft but these kits are my favorite thing to sell. They always sell if at least the size of a piece of paper and so easy to list and ship. Also sold two of these cat kits.
Did not particularly enjoy listing this 80s fabric last week but it paid off. Paid .99-2.99 per piece and the same buyer bought 5 for a total of $112 to make curtains. Pulling more fabric from my piles to list soon, plus I have more of this kind to list. I think I must have looked it up before I bought it.
I fairly often find vintage NOS tablecloths in the package. It was pretty plain but so took a while but sold this one to a prop house for $40. I put prop in the description. The more retro floral ones can really set a 60s or 70s vibe.
I keep an eye out for vintage paper doll books as they fetch about $10.
Have a good weekend scavengers.
Was doing .99 now do .95 because it somewhere seems classier ?
Costco does .97 for final clearance too.
Top % Increase eBay Item Sales
Included in the report was a list of the top in-demand pre-owned products:
1) Puzzles 813%
2) Strength Training 694%
3) Webcams 673%
4) Painting Equipment & Supplies 194%
5) Cardio Equipment 181%
6) Laptop Docking Stations and Power Adapters 128%
7) Golf Training Aids 119%
8) Wireless Routers 79% and Mobile Hotspots 139%
9) VR Headsets 111%
10) Lego Building Toys 86%@VT Almost exclusively home decor – vintage, new and used contemporary. Over the last year I’ve generally sold off or listed my holiday items. I have a lot of art, textiles, and ceramic / pottery items in my piles and lots of newbie coffee mugs left – Starbucks, etc. I have some of my mom’s ’60s vintage purses, shoes and costume jewelry I haven’t got into yet. I’m personally not into jewelry but it would be easy to list and ship. So, these are pretty much my pile choices.
I like to sell craft kits and they do well but they are all listed already. Unfortunately I stopped buying puzzles because I found that even the sealed ones were lower price, long tail.
04/07/2020 at 10:28 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 457: Is it a good week or a bad week? #75944Hey guys. I lost a big post but just wanted to echo that I’m bummed to hear about the Airbnb shut down in your area. I’m glad you have a big inventory to fall back on and potentially run a sale on. Hopefully you will get some rental expense deferrals or waivers. Thanks for the podcast. It’s raining here and I sat in front of the fire and listened on Sunday. What a luxury.
I listed 34 unique items, mostly on Ebay with a few lower dollar Mercari. I listed two sets of art in gold frames. It’s nice to get back to listing on days I don’t work. I took the weekend off though because I was pretty tired of sitting at the computer.
I got bored with fabric pretty quickly and switched over to small art work. Also bought a handful of RA clearance items and those are all listed as soon as they arrive. I asked my dad to bring over a box of fabric but he ended up bringing cartoon character sheets instead, which I’m not super excited about washing and listing. So I’ll either face that or continue with art work I suppose. Still interested in hearing what is selling well for people…
Re Walking dead, is there a lot of flesh eating spookiness?
I watched the first episode of Tiger King after hearing the buzz but having a soft spot for animals I couldn’t hack it seeing the redneck exploitation. Even seeing the redneck / gun mentality would be enough for me to tune out without the tigers. Liked the Netflix Outsider seasons with it’s flaws. My kids and I have been revisiting Gilligan’s Island. I watched the Pharmacist short series on Netflix ~ serious topic but well done. Started The Good Place on Netflix and liked it but not compelling.
We normally don’t watch tv so I appreciate the thread.

I read an article about this and they explained that some otherwise healthy Covid people’s immune systems launch a fierce attack in hyperdrive, creating a lot of collateral damage. They don’t know why or why kids aren’t so affected yet.
I listed 39 items last week – yeah! Hope to beat that this week but day job is unpredictable. Sales are slow but it’s nice to get into the piles.
Enjoyed the podcast. My husband is working 100+ weeks at the hospital and living quarantined downstairs. I’m working from home and my teens are busy online with school work. So I did have a couple of mornings last week without projects to list and it was really nice. I have a lot of home organizing projects that I want to get to and stuff around the house to throw up onto Mercari. I’ll try to work those in when I get tired of sitting at the computer.
Slow Ebay sales for me even though I did some listing. I got a box done from the death piles – Easter, craft kits, and vintage party supplies. I’m going to try a box of vintage fabric next from the piles. Skipping and ended anything big or heavy that needs to go FedEx. Scheduled my first pick up at the porch and it was kind of hard to wait so long to see my item go out. I usually drop it after packing the morning after purchase.
In my Mercari FB group, some people are claiming it’s good lately and better than Posh or Ebay. I’ve been shopping on Mercari myself for items for my household and yes floating low offers (Mercari limits how lowball you can go). I did a little bit of RA this week as the retailers are finally waking up and starting sales. Not too many are doing deep enough discounts but I did pick a little bit. Also it’s a great time to watch or put searches on Brads Deals.
Again, I think Ebay is well positioned with its army of small sellers ready to ship under the current circumstances. I wish you all good sales this week!
Me: stopped picking up puzzles a while back – doh!
Sold some party supplies already since yesterday. If anyone else has ideas, let me know. I think I have some Halloween to purge but will need to work the day job today. It was nice to have a listing morning yesterday. I feel grateful that I have Ebay as a fallback and can be somewhat productive while home.
What are you with the death piles listing this week? I pulled vintage children’s birthday party supplies (except invites), Easter (got a whole box done), and a handful of toys – I hardly ever buy toys. After that, I’m trying to decide what kind of home decor to pull.
