@VL A lot of the Portland Youtubers say picking Europe is amazing.
I created 17 new listings, mainly yesterday. I listed a bunch of stuff I just bought that was a pain to list, but at least I got it done. Large banquet table linens, a large art glass platter, XL serving bowl. I did get good prices for these, but questioning myself for sure.
@Antiquefrog I found a cool ship decanter last week but sadly it was missing the stopper. I loved the nautical, etched design. I’ve been challenging myself with the clear glass for about 9 months. You get used to spotting the quality.
Sorry I was just joking. 🙂
At least I have been good about not plunging into estate sales much. We have them year round, lots of older people live here. But I know I’d just get even more swamped and quickly. At least with thrifts I get only one or two items usually. The flea is limited as well unless there is an amazing clean out person – not often.
@VT oh good you were making me feel bad. I think Sharon is the only one who cleared the piles then? I have at least 20 bankers boxes and quite a few totes. Still some larger family stuff that I might try on Facebook Marketplace. Really need to get that out of my storage.
I listed 16. Have been spending some time with the kiddos, my dad and my husband plus having insomnia and servicing the dog. Hope for better this week. No pop up market.
I found this art glass bowl at GW, they don’t forward large breakables to corporate. $9.99 less 25% coupon for donating. https://www.ebay.com/itm/365098599059?_skw=Verlys+France+Art+Deco+glass+bowl+%27Birds+and+Koi%27+ca.+1930&itmmeta=01JYKTSS63HGJA0JMRR15HYFDG&itmprp=enc%3AAQAKAAABIFkggFvd1GGDu0w3yXCmi1dEcxm9MpaFPR9ZGsKKXAg7ZU9Ec5MEJjQt3vaI2tZfknS7M44oWqc%2B0%2BmUlQt0NCvNXnO%2FXQbgdF0V61zffyJBkwWLEBGgAcfnuNXlyU7Ainu%2FKQ8EfUBPH70bn%2FS9xtQiA%2Be87zCT1QNkxWPl6WxaC%2Fw1%2FCyuqM7e6ZSKETx30VJkisfpotW%2BdY9n%2FPxraCpYIKKqKY8wJ8sw5%2F8Z6EbPslgAwAOXlYUg5z%2BYPKqIqQoBXZX4Y8JFjnouaFp9fGGX%2BrUTiVLKlTgjuNk6KffKUeB9UCVGzRy%2FJqk1qjaTtSCynzpPDqtKUfG4AocqBgcim7gEKzqATnvNEgDvGppwm04gJAssWARHnTd3h0iT4g%3D%3D|tkp%3ABFBMkpPn-vRl
@Craig, I do ok with photos. I fall down on sitting down more often to create listings.
Total items: 1145
New listings this week: 16
Items sold: 18
Gross sales: $756
Net sales: $485
Average sales price: $42
High sale of the week: https://www.ebay.com/itm/335841063597 Went at the end of day 1 to an estate sale in a super packed house and found these under things. Paid like $2 maybe.
I’m approaching 5000 items and 2000 feedback on Ebay. Crazy numbers for how part time I have been. Our taxes were on extension and we just went in to sign. Despite having a medical emergency / injury for 3 months last year, my business profit was about double, in part due to the pop up markets. Still not impressive by any means, but not too shabby. I wish I could just consistently kick it into gear with the listing.
Honestly did way to much sourcing last year but it’s hard not to get out after working a desk job for many years. My kids are home for the summer too – one perhaps back home in the fall tbd -but we aren’t traveling much so I hope to giddy up. I’m keeping away from estate sales and garage sales to work on the piles but letting myself out to the flea market and once in a while while passing through to the Goodwill, which is on my way to everywhere. I’m also passing on things I would have bought before. Part of the journey but still similar challenges to my early Ebay selling. The pop ups and Facebook Marketplace have provided some balance but still need to list online more often.
I’ve also started to reach out to the most reasonable and better located antique mall here, which is very hard to get into. The local joke is someone has to die before you get in. I could probably get a spot in nearby downtown Ventura where the rent would be about the same as that one but I really don’t want to add that kind of driving into the mix with my current smallish vehicle. It would be great to get a fixed space if the rent is $300 or so (unlike others here at @600+). I have been accepted to the better pop ups here in town now and have one about every three weeks through October (or November), when I will probably break from live selling.
Thanks to R&J for keeping the forums alive for now! Sending virtual hugs.
I listed about 18 new items, 5 of which sold. Definitely pricing and offering to move things. It feels good to be back listing and getting results.
@VT are you almost done with the piles? Amazing.
Total Items in Store: 1142
Items Sold:
Cost of Items Sold: $40
Total Sales: $233; Net: $144
Highest Price Sold: $44 Tonala Pottery Owl
Average price: $33

Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $80?
Number of items listed this week: 0During this week I reset my whole store with sell similar. I’ve been able to send about 120 offers, many are 25-33% off but few takers. I was waiting until the offer opportunities dried up to start running a sale again. I like the newish feature where you can bulk sale based on new or used. I’m calling it the “summer of sales” (borrowed from a Youtuber) and just closing my eyes and discounting a lot of older things. I generally have a lot of margin except for some of my new items.
I cleared enough room in the garage to put one car back in. I still have a lot of organizing and framing work to do.
I have a market this weekend – a bit tricky because it’s before and during this parade https://www.swt.org/solstice/2024/parade/index.html. Lots of people come out for it and we are on the parade route, BUT they aren’t going to want to carry stuff back to their car.
I’ve enjoyed the live selling but this might be my last season (ending October). Some of the things about our very high cost of living area that make picking so good make it harder to sell at pop ups. People aren’t as spendy as LA people up here, probably because they can’t afford to. I also have a bit of an issue with few older people showing up at the markets. I don’t really have the right car to travel to LA and sell and might be a little old for that with this heavy art work. The prep really takes away from Ebay but it’s really nice to get out of the house and interact with people.
I’d rather have a booth but the rents are a bit crazytown. I’m talking to some locals about that. I might dip my toe in starting with a bookshelf.
In the meantime, I have a a lot of inventory to list. I’m trying to be really good about staying out of the thrift stores. I’ve kind of lost my appetite a bit for buying larger breakable items so that helps.
I have been pretty good on my scavenging hiatus. But I did find 3 of the same Waterford branded tablecloths – didn’t know they licensed their name. Working on the piles.
Jay and Ryanne
It’s a little disturbing how much I enjoy getting a great grocery deal. Getting old! LOL
Did not pick up much this week at the flea. I do love the $1 guy though. I bought a few Pottery Barn shams and a couple of tees for myself. I also found another like new Ikea duvet for R&J.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/235819204325 Sold this small watercolor painting and this large platter. https://www.ebay.com/itm/235937449878
Items I personally like but took quite a long time to sell. Happily I sold this in one day https://www.ebay.com/itm/236137080030 It’s interesting because there were others around this price and apparently it was once sold out, but now available for about this price on the original seller’s website.
@Craig great sales! Happy for you to be all dialed in and having good sales. 🙂Sold 9 items gross $354; net $178. Only listed a couple of listings. I was happy to sell a watercolor painting on Ebay that had been listed a long time. Ebay is super slow for me despite running some sales. I really haven’t listed much in the last couple of months honestly. I hadn’t done sell similar since November did so on Monday. I was able to make 90 offers so far, which have not converted yet. After a couple more days I will run a sale and – knock wood – will be listing this week since I was excused from jury duty yesterday afternoon. Worked the last couple of evenings on the garage, with more stuff management to do. I’m going to let myself shop at the flea market and try to stay out of the thrift store. Summer of sales!!!
@VL congrats! That’s a huge accomplishment and I’m sure it feels good.
Confession time: my husband has had it with the current state of the garage. As I mentioned we were super busy and though my Ebay inventory is all organized, the pop up market stuff just landed in the car space. So I got back to work organizing and I’m putting myself on a flea market only buying hiatus until I have some of this stuff cleared. I declare it summer of sales!
I also did a sell similar reset today, so hopefully I can get some money coming from Ebay. I’m going to see how the reset does and then run a deep sale on my used inventory. My next pop up isn’t until June 21 thankfully.
Jury duty today. Hoping to be excused early as they usually ding the lawyers.
