Average Price Sold: $26 Ebay, $13 Mercari

Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: +/-$100 RA clearance
Number of items listed this week: 29Thanks for the podcast. Again this week I sat and listened by the fire. I could get used to that. I feel like we are ok with delayed gratification but will wish we had traveled more. My husband and I were just revisiting our travel memories during this shut in.
This week’s sales were ok, not as good as last week. I’m still enjoying working through the piles but did get a little burned out on listing by Sunday. Hat’s off to those of you who do it full time. I’m extremely grateful that I became efficient on Ebay before this happened so I can work this morning.
No projects from the day job yet for today so I’ll be listing again. I think I’m going to switch up to another category. I did a bit of consolidating and found a couple of RA gems that fell off Ebay – I swear it happens! Sold one last night. Also started sharing pins on Facebook again this week and cleaned up my boards. I have agreed with myself to list some of my lower dollar vintage on Mercari and keep the bookkeeping up.
Package pick up is not going well. Twice he has left them behind. Also I don’t seem to be able to add additional purchases to the pickup effectively.
Have a great and safe week!
Sharyn, I’m so glad that you mentioned this. I had this happen and assumed it was my fault. It was a low dollar item so I just sold it for a buck.
Hi everyone. Hope you had a productive week. I listed 29 items, 27 unique. I made it back over 300 items in my store, so that’s nice. Worked on art, table linens, and kitchen stuff. I found the fabric tedious to list but really should get back to that.
I’ve talked to the manager about him before. He asked who was on our route and when I described him he was like “oh, yeah forget asking him for help.” He’s that guy who doesn’t even wave back from his truck. Luckily he doesn’t seem to be on our route every day, but now I’m worried about Ebay dings. I guess I’ll have to return to 2 day handling so I have time to go in.
For your consideration. It’s hard to wrap your head around it all.
Chain and local restaurants are now selling bread and basic ingredients here, including eggs and flour…
So it turns out our regular carrier is a total tool and close to retirement age. He keeps not picking up my packages. 🙁
Our biggest local thrift chain started taking donations again drive through. Interesting because we will probably be late to reopen in our state and the locals will wait for the state even though we don’t have a lot of cases.

Hi Marty 👋. I’m here in SB too (San Roque) selling part-time. I think there is one more local who calls in sometimes.
I like this idea VT. I have about the same amount of hourly work and work for a big firm with little client contact so easy to do from home. My husband has been working a lot of overtime, and a few of our expenses are a bit lower – car insurance, food, gas, plus looks like we will not take that East Coast trip this summer or probably this year. We are sharing some of our overtime pay as food donations in our community. We have time to volunteer with a few food deliveries. We don’t practice organized religion, so I’m pleased to have more time to help as an example to my kids.
I have a bit more time to chill with the kiddos, which is nice. My teens have been getting more of the sleep they really need during the shut down. Some of my son’s pre-college entrance exams are watered down, cancelled or at least delayed, taking pressure off an otherwise brutal schedule this Spring. We take walks daily in the neighborhood and hear the frogs in the creek at sundown. We are getting plenty of rain to remove the fear of drought and hopefully a bad fire season.
I listed 17 items this week, including 8 different retro 70s vintage tin recipe boxes sell similar. My dad brought over some more fabric, tablecloths and vintage sheets. Honestly not too excited about listing the used sheets. Hoping to list more this week but day job has projects. Also this week my son is on spring break and we are going to deliver groceries to older folks – it’s called ZoomerstoBoomers. I’ll walk him through shopping and help him navigate. The addresses are to fairly wealthy homes, but strange how in these times, the virus is an equalizer. Sorry off on a tangent. Have a good week everyone!
Retro I totally agree. Ebay should step up. I like their new slogan “Seriously, we have everything.” Ebay’s army of small sellers is a total advantage right now.
Hi Jay, we’ll see. It’s a great place to get rid of our stuff and lower dollar items I think. The ease of use is really key plus people are on their phones a lot and it’s reaching younger buyers who aren’t necessarily using Ebay. I think Mercari has had to cut back on their Google pay-to-play and sadly had to ditch the cheaper shipping on lower weight items but I still like it.
Yes, and our area was behind the major metros. I think it was actually a woman in one of the Bay Area counties who organized other counties and started the super early shut down. In our area, only the Federal prison is bringing people to the hospital these days. Now what is the question… My understanding is that California is still behind on testing and results.
In my area the other pickers are on Craigslist. They often advertise that they are looking for certain items – Legos, electronics, etc. They don’t like to pay a lot so it might depend on how much you want to unload vs try to make a profit.
On Facebook there are groups for collectors (by brand, type of item eg. Fiestaware, Studio art pottery, etc.) If you have groups of certain types of items you could try that and see if there is someone willing to pick up a lot. Some of those groups allow selling and some don’t so you need to read their rules.
Good luck!
