Hey all: How do you do combined shipping? I’ve done this before, but now can’t remember how it works! I am taking about a situation where a buyer messages me and says, “Hey, I like your items 123456789012 and 123456789013. Will you do combined shipping on these items?”. I could create a new listing, but I am pretty sure that I have completed this before without going to that extreme.
Seems like the buyer commits to buying them and then I send an invoice, but I don’t recall ho to make that happen.
I assume you have read the eBay intermediation information. If not, here is the link.

Also, eBay reports their 2017 earnings.

I wouldn’t auto-refund the buyer. If they have a shaky address then it might be better to communicate with them first. I sold a pair of shoes to a guy in Africa one time that came back undeliverable. I contacted the guy, never heard from him so relisted the shoes about a month later. If he ever responded I would just refund his $.
J&R: Glad you guys are having a good week, or had a good week last week. My numbers are horrible. Didn’t sell much and had a rather expensive return. Oh well, hope springs eternal. Thanks for the latest podcast.

At first, I read that the same way you did. I read it some more and thought it was a reduction per month for a year. I am going to call eBay for clarification. Not saying you’re wrong. Saying I am confused. Thanks.
01/24/2018 at 10:16 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 344: Decluttering and Auction Cravings #31246I am a part-time eBay seller and have an annual Basic store subscription. Today, I received an offer from eBay to upgrade to a Premium store and pay only $30/month for 1 year (half price of the Premium store). I currently pay $20/month for a Basic store with an annual subscription.
I believe you have to be invited (maybe everyone gets invited, I donât know) to make use of this offer so donât rush into it. Maybe call eBay if youâre interested and didnât get the invitation.

I realize they are trying to get more people to upgrade store subscriptions. The offer permits sellers with a Premium store to upgrade to an anchor store for $150/month for a year, which is also a half price offer.
I will upgrade to the Premium store as I have been over the 250 listings per month for several months now. I am not over the limit by much, but when you include items that sell (not just currently in the store) a quick look at a spreadsheet shows that itâs a no brainer to upgrade. I need to remember to cancel my store subscription a year from now and re-up with a basic store if my listing count doesnât increase between now and that date. Otherwise, Iâll have to pay the going rate for a premium store.
Iâll also get a bigger quarterly coupon. On a subconscious level it will be nice to lose the angst when I list another item over my free-listing limit.
I have a question for my fellow scavengers. Jay and Ryanne havenât commented very much on this topic, but it does appear in the blog comments. The issue is eBayâs promoted listings. I have to admit that I have a bad attitude concerning eBayâs promoted listing feature. To me, it appears to be nothing more than another eBay fee. I realize eBay is âpromotingâ my item because I am paying them a fee, but shouldnât they be doing this just for being part of the eBay inventory without the fee? If certain listings are given priority in search results because the sellers pay an additional fee then my non-promoted item is given second-class citizen status because I am not paying the fee.
If promoted listings didnât exist then search results would be based on listing that had the best words in the listing title or eBay specifics and the sellerâs reputation. Now, with eBay promoted listings you can circumvent those attributes and just buy your way into the best search results.
I get it that this is another revenue stream for eBay, but it seems counterproductive to me.
I have a few listings with PL since I get (I think) $30/quarter from eBay to spend on PLs.
Since I am a part-time eBay seller and plan to stay that way for the foreseeable future I found this article interesting. https://hbr.org/2018/01/how-to-figure-out-what-your-side-hustle-should-be
I listed my first item in 2018. It sold within 10 minutes of being listed. Nice.
Ryanne: How did you pack the Santa-canoe item? It looks like it would be quite challenging to pack.
Congratulations on being debt free.
At one time, several podcasts ago Ryanne and Jay were discussing the infrequently encountered issue of providing at least 3 images for an eBay listing. eBay requires or maybe strongly suggests that you have at least 3 images. This isnât usually an issue, but at the time Ryanne and Jay were discussing photographing patches. Today, I noticed a listing where the seller simply listed one of the images multiple times in the listing. I thought, âWhy didnât I think of that?â.
My other solution for this very small issue for something like a patch is to take a picture of the front of the item, the back and then to take a 3rd picture of the front with a coin or something similar to provide scale of the item.
12/07/2017 at 1:26 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 337: If You Build It, You Will Have Storage #28330Steve Schultz mentioned in his video this week that some of his long-tail items have been selling. I thought the same thing. Maybe it’s just due to the holiday shopping and more people looking at stuff online.
12/06/2017 at 1:03 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 337: If You Build It, You Will Have Storage #28260I think this was mentioned previously and it was announced in early October, but USPS postage is going up slightly on January 21, 2018. https://about.usps.com/news/national-releases/2017/pr17_062.htm
