@Amatino, I am flying from Denver to London direct on Norwegian with carry-on luggage only. To find flights, I use google flights in map view to look at flight rates for the next 6 months.
https://www.google.com/flights (choose the top left corner pull down to select “Explore Flights”)
Good luck with your travel plans, Daniel
Travel more – just bought ticket to London for late January for $160 and booked a week at a hostel for 25 pounds/night (have not determined where I will return from or when).
I purchased items from two online auctions. In both cases, I ended up with a lot of junk that had been poorly described and badly photographed. Take home lesson was – don’t buy a pig in a poke and online auctions are 100% poke.
Late to this conversation, but thanks so much Kyle. This is really great info.
12/04/2018 at 8:53 am in reply to: USPS – The Post Office will be closed on Wednesday, December 5th #52627I just had an order going out 1st class zone 7 and the eBay app said “buyer expects this by Tuesday 12/11. That seems like a long delivery estimate and must be accounting for the interruption in service tomorrow.
I wonder if there will be a measurable impact on overall US sales from taking USPS off line for a day.
A dedicated label printer was a big improvement in efficiency and the shipping experience for me. I also use a tape gun as my preferred tool for boxing.
In the last 6 months I started purchasing boxes (instead of scavenging) and this made me feel a lot less stress about selling and shipping. I still scavenge boxes, but now I have a ready supply for the stuff that goes out all the time.
I have a few things that I look for in thrift stores, and have stopped looking at clothing. I prefer garage/yard sales and prioritize the high end neighborhoods West of me. Since we are out of season now for Garage/Yard sales, I am listing more.
11/27/2018 at 11:21 am in reply to: How would you price this Norwegian language book? "Perleri Prosa" #52345Unless there is something special about this book (e.g. signed by author, first edition, back story rare and sought after, etc.) it will probably sell between $40 and $80. It is a long tail item – very low turn over of norwegian language books on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/sch/29223/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=norwegian+language&LH_Sold=1&LH_Complete=1&_sop=16
You could put a high price on it with make offer. If you get watchers, you might be able to send them an offer (per recent discussion here on forum).
Good luck, Daniel.
I have had a Rollo printer for about 6 months now (~300 labels) and it works great. If I recall a selling point is that Rollo does not require proprietary label blanks. I would watch out for any label maker that has to have a certain type of label to work.
11/26/2018 at 9:52 am in reply to: Unintentionally tried to ship contraband, seized through GSP #52260The other thing I am aware that you cannot sell internationally is an image with a human nude. I believe these can be sold to Canada, (maybe Mexico?), but nowhere else.
11/25/2018 at 3:32 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Doc Martens, Gun case, Vintage bike radio, Speaker stands, Electric stapler, Panasonic TV #52233Sales are starting to pick up for me. I had a good week last week (week before last week since I am writing late now. This is a pretty piece of glass that I picked up at an estate sale for two bucks: https://www.ebay.com/itm/192683533595. I am hesitant to buy glass because it moves slow, is risky to ship and is pretty heavy. Today, I might pass over this one. I am ambivalent.
I have had steady sales of vintage gay-oriented pulp fiction like this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/192721635538
These Eddie Bauer boots are bread and butter. I got them for ~$5 and sold them for $34 with free shipping. https://www.ebay.com/itm/192704461629
I was at an Estate Sale that was closing down and the agent said I could “make a pile” for $10. There was a box of rail road stuff that I threw onto my pile and these cars were in the box. Essentially, they were close to free and they sold for $40: https://www.ebay.com/itm/192574223446
I sold my last lot of Lego. I need to photograph some more and get it listed: https://www.ebay.com/itm/192628114104
It was a slow week for me, but I had some really great sales the prior week and this past weekend was also great, so I am not complaining.
I under priced this 1960s gay erotic pulp fiction at $22.50 and it sold right away.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/192714853869 I subsequently doubled and tripled prices on my most of my remaining items. What I failed to appreciate until I had looked at a lot of listings is that my books are in excellent to mint condition compared to a lot of what is out there. This is a 1909 D & Co plate that I have had forever. I was so glad to see it go for $45 https://www.ebay.com/itm/192701331000 I don’t think I would buy it again, except that it was very beautiful.
Also extremely long-tail is this early American pressed glass: https://www.ebay.com/itm/192411818094 Looking in Worthpoint, it looks like one or two of these (New England Pineapple) sell every year. I am glad mine finally sold. I have about twenty more, but I need to redo my listings as they look like crap in my old photo set up.
This bike seat was a quick flip – bought for $5 and sold for $32 within a week: https://www.ebay.com/itm/192713574825
I picked up about a dozen flags from a collector, and have been selling then here and there. This is a big nylon flag that was flown over the US Capitol. I took a best offer of $35.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/192685442442Paid a few bucks for a set of 8 blades for an old Cuisinart food processor. The blades were clean and in great shape and were super easy to list and store. They don’t sell for much but the return is good for low investment of $s time and effort. https://www.ebay.com/itm/192682172335
As a relatively new seller with limited inventory (~400 items), I have been less interested in selling clothing except for shoes. I find there is tons of competition so that Thrift Stores are not great for sourcing, margins seem pretty low (buy at $4 and sell at $15 to $30), it can be difficult to photograph well, there are endless brands and I am just not that interested in learning it all.
Potentially losing money on returns for fit is a nice capstone on why not to go this route with my store. My hat is off to those that make a success of this world.
Thanks for your video Steve. I really enjoy seeing the things that pass through your store and getting to check in on your pups.
I had an amazing week with my NSFW vintage gay beefcake slides. I think I found the right price now at $30/each as I have a few slides left over from my last upload. (Everything sold out at $15/ea and $20/ea).
I mentioned before that I bought a lot of 20+ Korean language television DVDs for $14. I had two more sales last week including this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/192689761868
This set of chessmen is from Wm. F. Drueke of Grand Rapids MI. Some of the chessmen from this company can sell for ~$150, but those are larger and I think built to tournament specifications. I took a best offer on these of $40
Having struck gold with the photographic images of virile men, I have been looking into flipping old photographs. I like that they can be acquired cheaply and stored easily. I have only listed a few, and priced them high. I took a best offer of $5 on this one (similar images sell all the time for $5): https://www.ebay.com/itm/192701624380
I realized in the last few days that my tax situation for this year may encourage me holding out for the highest prices I can get on my eBay business. I earned 6 months of salary this year and have maxed tax deferred contributions so anything I earn will be taxed in a higher bracket in 2018 then in 2019. Thus if I give up $10 to take a purchase now (instead of waiting for a higher sale that may be next year), I could be doubly shooting myself in the foot. It was a small aha! that should skew me towards higher prices until 2019.
I wonder if someone silk screened the U4EA and Angel over the bag? It looks like there are parts of the bag that have the camo print without any of the lighter color of the Angel and logo.
Thanks for the tips on inexpensive padding materials. I have been using bubble wrap and reused materials exclusively. I will get some kraft paper and corrugated paper to reduce my bubble habit.
